This is a list of recipes and summery of the No Chemicals/Non Toxic Household Cleaners Vinegar and baking soda were the most suggested. Along with Shaklee basic H, Meleluca, and Bio-kleen that can be bought from different sources. See thread for details.

heatheronthehill Suggests: Vinegar! Straight white vinegar is all you need. I spray down my shower with vinegar every week and only scrub my tub with baking soda once or twice per year. It stays clean and sparkley! If you have a lot of kids and your shower gets heavy use, you could surely spray it down more often.

ShabbyChic Suggests: About once every 2-3 weeks I use Shaklee Basic-H; it’s cheap and cleans EVERYTHING. It’s concentrated, so I dilute it heavily and it cleans my toilet, tub, stove and eyes, oven, counter tops, and all with no smell.

ALittleMore Suggests: For an awesome cleaning solution: 2 cups Water, 2 cups Apple Cider Vinegar, 2 tsp. Cinnamon [Cinnamon Leaf] or Clove essential oil, 1 tsp. Lemon essential oil. Be sure to add the lemon ess. oil, too. (to vinegar) It tones down the vinegar smell more than any other ess. oils I’ve used. Plus it smells very clean, and actually has very notable anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

4myhoonie Suggests: fill spray bottle with water add 6 drops GSE add 3 drops lemongrass extract add 1 T peroxide add 1 T L.O.C (liquid organic cleaner from Amway–lasts me about a year for about $7, also Sol-U-Mel from Melaleuca is a good one–both VERY safe and non toxic) that’s it! i make up about 3 bottles at once and keep them in frequently needed locations.

herbalmom Suggests: To make a spray mix: 1 part ess. oil; 3 parts vodka; 1 part liquid soap (we use Bio-kleen degreaser or 7th Generation dish soap- neither one bothers us) this makes a concentrate. It will separate but just shake before you use it. To use mix 3 tbsp concentrate with one qt. water. Shake before each use. HTH Blessings ~herbalmom

Sarahsboys Suggests: I read Organic Housekeeping - which talks about using Hydrogen peroxide to clean. Then I saw a show of Martha Stewart’s that was devoted to healthy cleaning products. Some of the ideas were: 1. Make a paste using vinegar and baking soda to scrub your sink, tub, etc. 2. Put Club Soda in a spray bottle and use on your windows, mirrors, faucets (this REALLY works) 3. For a porcelain kitchen sink, pour baking soda in the bottle, spray with lemon juice, let sit and then scrub clean to remove stains (this also REALLY wors) 4. Use vinegar to wash your floors

chrissyjoy Suggests: i do 1 1/2 c vinegar, 1/2 c water and 8 drops lemon eo and a pump of dish soap...(castille soap doesn’t work just the " bad” stuff ) for mirrors... than sprinkle baking boda that has been mixed with 10 dropd peppermint oil into an old salt shaker for my tubs and sink basin... than spray the vinegar cleaner over it and than scrub up...i spray the vinegar stuff all over my shower walss without rinsing just to keep them free from mold ... i have these fake stone cement shower walls so they are hard to see dirt in and weird to scrub....so i just sray w. the winegar/mirror cleaner and leave on... for my kitchen counters I do 32oz water, 32 drops gse, 15 drops tea tree oil and 15 lemon...peppermint also smells reallly yummy...too much tto seems to make things streaky, but i like its cleaning power... for toilets i use old salad dressing cbottles that have the squirty tops and do 8 oz water, 8 oz vinegar , 32 drops tea tree, 8 lavendar, 16 gse, 8 eucalyptus and than squirtin... you can also sprinkle baking soda after you flush it down and than pour the other studd on that... i tried adding the baking soda to trhe dressing bottle of course that was a mess I don’t know why i always forget baking soda and vinegar “explode” i clean the outside with the mirror vinegar spray or with the stuff i use in the kitchen counters...i get old socks and rags and put them in a container wuth a mixture of 1/2 cup water 4 drops tto 4 lavendar 4 gse and 4 eucalyptus and use these when i need to clean something right away and don’t want to get rags./paper towels & cleaners out...sometimes I ll use these around the outside of the toilet too but I prefer to use paper towels for nsasty jobs like that : ) thats what i do i reaaly like it...i have a hard time doing too much cleaning with vinegar the smell id so potent for my pregnant self..

hodgy Suggests: I just wanted to post a cleaner that I regularly use in my home. I mix 2cups distilled water about 20 drops of lemongrass essential oil, and 30 drops of grapefruit seed extract. I use this for an all purpose cleaner throughout the house and because of the GSE it kills all the bad guys, but is completely safe.

JuliaofSunnyside Suggests: was looking up tips on how to care for our hardwood floors - they get lots of wear and tear around here, especially in the kitchen . I found this from the “Queen of Clean.” I have liked her tips in the past because she uses mostly baking soda, vinegar, and borax to clean everything. Hardwood Floor Cleaner 1 quart boiling water 2 teabags Steep teabags and start cleanin’. The tannins in the teabags bring out a beautiful lustre in your floors.

Now someone is probably going to tell me that it’s bad for the wood. All I can’t figure out is, how do you clean with boiling water without burning your hands? She also had this recipe for linoleum cleaner: 1 qt. boiling water 1 tsp borax

healthyinOhio Responds to above recipe with this. Well, I guess it will be me. Ha ha! I used to clean my hardwood floors like this and I had two problems. 1. The warm water left water spots. 2. It didn’t really scrub dirt off very well.

I use a product with linseed oil, and it works much better

page 3 also has discussion on carpet cleaning solutions.

pljammie Suggests: If you use vinegar to clean with and don’t like the smell then you can make it smell a little better this way. I put vinegar in a jar about 3/4 full. I then add orange peels as we eat them (lemons and limes should work too). In about a week, the vinegar will be orange scented. You can still smell the vinegar, but when diluted with water and sprayed on the counter, the vinegar fades and you have a light orange scent. It is much better than vinegar alone. Edited to add: You should strain out the peels before using vinegar scented in this way.
