I just got an octopus clip for my 10 yo sis, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to how I can use it on her? I know you can do a bun and just clip it in with the octopus, but was looking for other options...

In case it helps, she has pretty thick, medium length hair.

TIA!

Sorry. I haven't really had practice with one of those clips. Maybe you could google 'octuopus hair clip style' or something like that.

Here is a pic (just an everyday, greasy-haired shot, lol) of how I do mine with an octopus... basically I twist it up, turn in a knot to make enough to fill the octopus, leaving the last 6-8 in. or so free to hang over, hiding the clip. Hope that make sense and its ok if you don't like it. Smiley

And btw, I have thick mid-back length hair.

      I justs saw this  thanks!

Emily, what do you mean by butterfly clip?

Here, you can look at it here HTH!

I just saw one of these for sale at a Bed Bath and Beyond store the other day. I haven't tried one, but I thought someone might like to know that you CAN buy these in stores (even though that web site says you can't!  Wink) They also have them online here:

The EZ combs looked cheap and had some really bad company and product reviews.  But they looked like a good idea and so I looked around some.  Found these hairzings on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?ie=UTF8&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&me=A7XCLRXNYB5TH

They look much sturdier since they are metal and they have much better reviews, are comparably priced and have a better guarantee.

So if I had the money to get some, I would go with the hairzings.

But I haven't actually used either product, just based on what I have read and thought I would share.

I was just wondering if anyone can give me any tips on teaching my 4 yo daughter to get her hair done without having to fight a battle over it every time. She has always hated getting it combed and hated having barrettes and rubber bands in it. On church days I just make her sit still but I usually don't bother trying to put it up on other days. Is it purely a discipline/attitude issue or do you think it really hurts her as much as she claims? Has anyone tried anything creative in this area? She wants to do it herself - at what age can they do a good job of doing their own hair? How much say do you give them on what should be done with their hair? She is usually pretty obedient in most other areas of life, by the way.

I know you asked this a year ago, but I thought I'd add my two bits...  Cheesy

With our daughter we had the same issue. I do my best to brush her hair gently, but ultimately it was just an attitude problem. We now have a "deal". I try to braid her hair every day to limit the tangles (therefore limiting the potential pain involved in brushing). On the days that she wants her hair down, I tell her that she may forgo the braids, but only on the condition that there will be NO complaining when I have to detangle it later. She usually thinks for a moment (remembering how much it hurts when her hair is tangled) and chooses the braids.  Grin

Something else I have tried to instill in her is thankfulness for me doing her hair. Yes, right now she doesn't have much of an option, but I still prompt her to say "thank you" when I'm done, understanding that if I hadn't braided her hair she would have tangles later. Now that she is almost 6, she can brush her hair by herself quite well. I usually ask her to brush it and then I braid it which makes her happy.

Finally, I swear by leave-in conditioner/detangler spray! Johnson & Johnson makes it, but we get the Walmart (Equate) brand. It's in a white bottle by the baby shampoo in the hair products section. It works like a charm for eliminating static and untangling hair. I use it on my hair too. Unpronounceable ingredients, but for me it has worked the best. (Tried the Hairshine, but it didn't work effectively for us.)

HTH!
