I don't think I want it that badly!  LOL  Cheesy.  Seriously, I hadn't thought of that one--you all are so clever!  WI is about 2 hours+ away...not sure about their laws...they're a pretty big dairy state.

As far keeping our mouths shut--too late--we've been doing this for almost 2 years, and many know about it.   Roll Eyes

I think I can be quite content w/ the pasteurized/non-homogenized from the co-op.  My FIL raises beef cows and they used to raise dairy...they're 2.5 hours away.

Perhaps I'll find that if we cut back our milk something good will happen--maybe we're really allergic to it, and I don't know it!   Shocked

No thanks to the sheep,  Tongue, and a camel would absolutely DIE u.p. here!   Cheesy

Buy a little pygmy goat and put it in your spare bedroom. And  your milk needs are solved. Provided it is a lactating 'she' goat.

We own two dairy goats and have a couple of friends who cannot tolerate p/h cow milk, so we give them milk. Now every once and a while they give me money. I do not consider this money that goes towards the milk directly. It is illegal to sell raw milk in Florida, however, it is not illegal to give raw milk in Florida or is it illegal for my friend to help me pay for grain/hay when she gives me money. So if you get raw milk from someone, just tell them that the money you are giving them is to be used to buy grain/hay/supplies. Or see if you can do anything in trade for the milk. Paint their house, bake cookies, make sauerkraut. It is really pretty simple to, even ethically, get around the issue of whether it is moral to buy something illegal. At least I think in this case where raw milk really can't do any harm. Does this make sense?

But the idea of the Pygmy in the extra room sure is a funny one. As long as you don't have too many kids that demand it from the little lady!!

It is true that bartering is a good, practical and ethical way to meet our needs.  If we were really, really resourceful we could barter our way through much of our lives and save TONS of money... if only we put forth the effort.  Bartering is just not used often enough.

Sometimes it gets really confusing.  I had one person from dept. of ag say it is Ok to get a donation for the milk.  I would not be allowed to give them an amount they needed to donate.  However, if they asked me what others donated, I could tell them that.  Another one said, that is not right.  It would still be illegal.  Cow shares were being used here in Ohio.  Someone got taken to court over it.  The cowshare farmer won.  However, there are still people in the dept of ag that don't like it and try to shut those people down.

I didn't really understand why it was illegal to sell raw milk before reading this thread. Now i understand a little more.  Grin

i think the best thing the government and farmers can do is to work together to standardized it somehow and make it legal. I think its a win-win for everyone.

I personally use raw milk for a bunch of stuff. and i don't have any problems with it, i don't get sick or anything because i get it from a trusted farmer friend. and i think that's the number one issue. getting quality stuff from quality and trusted sellers. Grin

@healthybrat - i think the raw milk law covers all raw milk, maybe except human milk..?  Grin
