  Tetnus Shots Booster
« on: July 27, 2007, 11:44:07 AM » by mamaofangels
Okay gals, Just went in for a check up and was asked to get the tetnus booster. It's been 10 years since I've had one.  Of course I have learned alot in 10 years. My kids are vaccinated because I knew no better.  Anyways, I told him I would do some research before I dcecied.. So Any opinions?? Why would I need to get a booster?  I ahve read the other posts on tetnus and to me it seems this is curable and not life threatening.  Why If you've had a tetnus do you need a booster.  How does is not work anymore?? Sorry just very confused about the whole thing.  Thanks for any input.

Embarrassed No one should get a tetanus shot no matter what, but especially women as they cause sterility and reproductive problems.  They contain the female hormone HcG along with toxic metals you do not want in your body.  The tetanus shot is ineffective and unnecessary.  Try to find a study that proves tetanus shots to be effective in the first place.  Conclusive studies on vaccination effectiveness do not exist, as you would have to vaccinate one group and not the other, then expose both to the disease and see who gets it.  This has not been done- they would just like you to take their word for it that the vacinne works and you need it.

... they cause sterility and reproductive problems.

Hmmm....must have gotten a placebo batch when I was younger.  5 children in 7 years of marriage isn't what I would call a reproductive problem.   Shocked

From my understanding, the majority of vaccines need booster shots.  I had a round of boosters in high school after being fully vaccinated as a child.  I also read recently that the Canadian medical system is trying to reach young adults to continue the routine boosters, as most haven't had them since they left their parent's care.

Here are a couple of links that talk about the why's for boosters.

Sorry, I just realized I should have put this link in my answer to corroborate.  Also you can tell I was in a rather bad mood about vaccines when I posted that one, so sorry if it came off too strong.   Lips Sealed This is a very personal subject for me but I will try to be calmer in the future  Smiley

Great link, Wing!!

We have a son who had a terrible reaction to a DT shot - 8 years later we still see the signs...  Of all diseases, tetanus was the most scary to me... but so was the reaction.

What was your son's reactions and what do you see today? My Dd and I are allergic to tetanus shots. We get fever and ache all over. When I gave my Dd a booster her leg swelled up and she couldn't walk for days. We will never give either one of us the shot again. I wonder what might happen next time. I had heard that the Doctor's can give antibiotics if you are allergic to Tenanus. My doctor just said that they always perfer for you to get the booster's for all the just in cases in life. After our reactions he will give us the antibiotics. PTL

Disclaimer - I believe that all shots pose some risks.  I also believe that on the whole, more people benefit from them than suffer from them.  i think it is a personal decision for each family and I am not trying to sway anyone with these statements.
1 -About your son's reaction....8 years ago they were still mostly using the DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) shot, which was famous for bad reactions.  Now they use DTaP (Diptheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis) which is supposed to be almost reaction free.  It may be worth looking to see which shot he received.
2.  Keep in mind that Tetanus is something that can be treated after a wound occurs, so all is not lost if you choose to forgo the shots altogether.  One just has to be more aware of what types of wounds their children receive to eliminate the risk of contracting the disease.  If you were ever to go to the hospital for a deep cut, they would likely push for a tetanus booster regardless of when you last had one and what the risk was from the wound.
2 - I thought that swelling, fever and aches were pretty standard and not considered an allergic reaction unless the fever became dangerously high.  Any more info on that one?         ~L

Anyone who has not seen this yet who wants to be informed on whether or not you need vaccines, should definitely take a look (I believe it is 1.5 hours long).  It is not new, and the Health Admin.  will tell you a lot has changed since then, but IMO that is not true- just look at the adverse affects plaguing children today.  Ask the doctor for a list of ingredients before you consent to the vaccine and you can see that the same ingredients that are mentioned in this video are in fact contained in the shot.  I have heard of some doctors not providing a list upon request, or acting aggravated or like it will be a big inconvenience to him to dig one up for you.

For those who may have read about our son's reaction, I apologize for the repeat here.  I wrote a lengthy post about what happened and put it up on one of the other vaccination threads, however, to save time I will re-post part of it here:

Our oldest son is 13 and suffering from longterm effects from a reaction to a DT shot administered when he was 4 1/2.  When he was about 12 months, my husband and I researched vaccines decided we would no longer vaccinate.  All was well until our son cut himself while my husband was out of town...

The emergency doctor at the children's clinic was critical and overwhelmingly "nasty" about his vaccination status.  She insisted he needed to be vaccinated - I argued that his wound was from a clean kitchen knife and had bled profusely.  *Tetanus usually only grows in puncture wounds, as it needs an oxygen-free environment to grow, but she continued to push.

After a good deal of badgering, I finally caved in and agreed to allow a tetanus shot and she informed me that they didn't make "just tetanus" for children.  I informed her that my dad was a doctor at the hospital and they most certainly DID make "just tetanus".  She insisted that they didn't have it at the children's clinic and that, because the DT shot was made for children, it was "safer" than the regular tetanus shot...

I allowed the shot and our son had a strange reaction:  within an hour of the shot, his entire personality changed.  He became belligerent, "twitchy", couldn't sit still, couldn't concentrate, had no regard for his own safety, couldn't look me in the eyes (his eyes darted back and forth as though "dizzy") - and these are just some of the symptoms!

Scared, I called both my husband and the clinic.  The clinic, of course, asked if he had any swelling at the injection site - and when I told them he didn't, they just told me this had "nothing to do with the shot".

My husband came home the next day and was as worried as I was...  We called the clinic again... and again... and again... over the course of two weeks!  I know they had a file a mile deep with comments about this boy's "wacko" parents.

After two weeks, he developed what looked like a "hive" over the injection site.  It spread from the size of a 50 cent piece to a huge water-blister-like-welt that covered his entire upper arm and wrapped all the way around.  The nurse I spoke with said "Ma'am, it is sunny outside -- It is probably just a sunburn"!!!!!!      ARGH!

We took him in and within 5 minutes they had every doctor on duty in our room.  All agreed that this was indeed a reaction, but one they had never seen or heard of before.  Though they admitted it was definitely a reaction to the shot, they told me there was nothing that could be done.  "Once it was given they, couldn't take it back."

Thankfully, we came across a naturopathic doctor who sent us some Thuja which, admittedly made a definite improvement... but we still see the symptoms and live with difficult behavior and attention problems on a daily basis.

He is a wonderful, smart young man, but acts "younger" and more immature than most his age... I don't believe in labels and don't agree with the treatments - but, were he in a school setting, he would be considered "ADD" or "ADHD".

As this happened at age 4 1/2, we know "who" he was before and could readily see the changes immediately after the shot.  The Lord is good and as we progress forward, I believe we will get a handle on some of his issues... but it has been a difficult journey - one I have been ill-equipped for.

Since his reaction to the DT shot, he has become more sensitive to chemicals, certain foods, and especially food dyes.  I can immediately tell if he has had anything with food coloring as his personality becomes very rebellious, wild, distracted and thoughtless.  In otherwords, he just doesn't think before he impulsively acts.

Thank you petrimama, as most people would not know the difference, however we are sure it was a DT shot.  The doctor had assured me there was "no real risk" of reaction with the DT, so I finally agreed.  *sigh*

Isn't it sad that those reactions would be considered "standard". Undecided

Thank you everyone for your input.  This has helped me come to the decision not to get the tetnus booster or really any other vaccines.  I just can not see the need in a tetnus shot since it is very, very unlikely I will ever have an injury that is infected with it and it is treatable! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!

Just wanted to add my opinion on this :p  I don't think anyone really needs a tetnus shot myself. As long as you keep the wound clean you shouldn't have a problem with infection, which is what causes it? And even if you do get hurt like stepping on a nail or something, if you had to go to the doc or ER they would offer you one then anyways... whats the point in getting one if you may never need it???

I can also say, that last year, my then 11 year old cut his finger peeling a potato. Now, if that happened today, I would have butterflied it, and put a few things on it, and done a few other things.. but I didn't.
They stitched him up, asked about a booster,  I said I thought we were good, but htey said that he shoudl have one.
The next day, I went to the clinic and got his booster.
That night, he was up with a 103 fever, and an asthma attack. His peak flow on his blow thing was 145.  This is a kid who can blow to 250, at the time.  So, the next day, after continuous breathing treatments all night- I took him to the doctor. He ended up on double medrol (steroid pack) for not 5 days, but 10. He was in nasty shape.
So, again... coincidence?  Hmmm, makes me wonder.

We have so many issues with medical things in our home. When my youngest son was over 1, he had some infection, and then had some problems with his teeth.. he ended up needing one pulled when he was 2 or 3, and then had to have a few fillings.  After that, my sweet little sunshine, was "different".. he is more like a child with obsessive compulsive disorder now.  It was like  a day night thing.

I'm not sure if it was the immunization, antibiotics, or the fillings that did it... and I don't know what to do to help this little guy now.
He is a type 1 diabetic, can't sit still very active (but not climbing the walls) still sweet, but very ocdish

My hubby got hurt at work today - praise the Lord, He only had to get stiches in his hand.  10 stiches - but the metal object that fell on his hand hit him in the head first - he had the hard hat on!!

Anyway, they took him in to get the stiches and gave him the tetnus shot and a huge antibiotics shot (in his bottom!!  He was thrilled - NOT!!).  Anything I can do to help his body cope with the tetus shot?

Thanks!

I know too much about vaccines now, so this is really bugging me.  His arm is really sore, as expected, from the shot site.  Any ideas or is it too late?

For any vaccination, additional vitamin C is necessary.  He needs to be taking very large doses of vitamin C, divided into hourly or half-hourly doses, up to bowel tolerance for several days  Taper off to a daily divided dose of 3000 mg.  This helps move toxins out, and will help his immunity.

Organs of detoxification are GI tract, urinary tract, liver, lungs and skin.  Support all of these.

Lots of insoluble fiber to move things quickly thru the GI tract (not oatmeal, prunes, etc, those are soluble fiber).

He needs large doses of probiotics for several weeks (some say up to six months after any antibiotic).

Plenty of water to flush the kidneys.

Milk thistle to cleanse and support the liver.

For soreness and cleansing through the skin, try detox baths: epsom salts plus baking soda.

For lungs, deep breathing - clean air, of course!  Or inhaling saline or herbal steam.  Salt is a phenomenal cleanser and healer for the respiratory system.

Also, gentle lymph massage or skin brushing to drain the lymph system, along with or in addition to full body movement to pump the lymph system (think bouncing on a rebounder).

There are homeopathic kits for reversing the side effects of vaccines while retaining the purported benefits.  I have not used them, but it might be something to look into.

HTH!

It may hurt for 2 or 3 days.  Just talking from experience.  I would recommend ice packs, but don't have any suggestions on herbal remedies.

THANK YOU SO MUCH DHW for all that useful info!!  I'll start some of it right away today!!  Hubby doesn't usually see things quite as "herbally" as I tend to, but this time he's really nervous about having received this shot!

Thanks so much for the help!!!

My dd age 5 cut her foot on in our barn.  She was fully vaccinated up until now.  I did not take her in for the boosters at age 4 as I had read about them and didn't want to expose her to potential health problems.  I have one dyslexic daughter and think that might be vaccine related.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the clinic we use only has DTaP vaccine.  (Of course it's been 3 years since we've seen the pediatrician so who knows what is available now)    She did not have a puncture wound, but rather a really small cut, maybe 1/2 an inch long and not deep at all.  It bled a tiny bit.  It almost qualifies as a scratch.  Should I be concerned about tetanus?  What can I do to help her not get tetanus, if I opt not to get the booster?  I wouldn't be concerned at all, if there wasn't tin laying where she fell.  She doesn't know what cut her and no one was there to see it.  I cleaned it with soap and water and then put on a band-aid.  I'll check in the morning for swelling and go ahead and give her some vit. c then too.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In your daughter's case, I would probably not be concerned about tetanus. You said it wasn't very deep, and was more like a scratch. Washing out the wound with soap & water, hydrogen peroxide, or even an iodine solution is always a good thing. I would definitely keep an eye on it for any signs of infection.

HOWEVER, at our house, we take tetanus very seriously. Although I am not wild about vaccinations, this is one shot that we do keep up. You have to understand that the bacteria that causes tetanus, Clostridium tetani, puts out several toxins, and one of them being tetanospasmin, which causes muscles to contract continuously and without control. It is the second most powerful toxin known. The first is the botulism toxin. (Source: Alcamo's Fundamentals of Microbiology, Jeffrey C. Pommerville)

C. tetani lays dormant in a spore-form in barnyard and garden soils. The idea of rusty nails causing it is sort of a misnomer. Once these little spores get into the skin via an animal bite, a puncture by a piece of glass, a thorn, or a rusty nail, they need anaerobic conditions to develop and grow, and start giving off their nasty toxins. The key there is anaerobic conditions. That's why we always soak puncture wounds here in good old H2O2.

We live on what used to be a working farm. There is old manure everywhere, things for the kids to step on, get puncture wounds, scratches, whatever. We go barefoot almost all summer long, especially in the garden, and it's inevitable that somebody is going to get something stuck in their foot or elsewhere. Honestly, I keep up the tetanus booster.

Here they've started giving it with a pertussis (whooping cough) booster. I do not go for that. Called the local county health department and she said that we could get a tetanus booster only, no pertussis. Good for 10 years.

I just wanted to put this out there not to scare anybody, but for information only.  Smiley

BTW, tetanus is still a big problem in other parts of the world where tetanus gets into babies via the umbilical cord site. I'm guessing 3rd world countries here.
