I have a HORRID itching in my crotch area
« on: August 25, 2007, 03:01:05 PM » by joyfulmotherof7
Hello all.  I have just joined the forum and this is my first time posting.  I hope I'm putting this in the right place. This is kind of embarassing.... For many months now I have had a really bad, red, itching around my vagina--but not in it.  It also is on my upper thighs.  It appears to be spreading.  I went to the doctor(natural, conservative, home-birth doctor) and he said it looked like "crotch rot".  He said that's the slang for a fungal infection.  He said to just use "Tinactin", an OTC athlete's foot remedy.  I have been using it and it seems to be doing nothing.  It is spreading on me; but my husband isn't getting it.  It is sooooo itchy, it is driving me NUTS!  It gets so raw, I bleed.  Is there anyone out there that can give me some remedy--an actual plan to follow would be GREAT!! I'd really appreciate it.

Do you have any family history of psoriosis?  Do you have raised bumps or is it a general red blotchy itch?  Could you have perhaps contracted scabies?

If it is what your doc says it is, I would try Grapefruit seed crush.  I think I put 15 drops in a quart and put it in a spray bottle and spray that on.  Herbalmom has written the recommended ratio, but I can't find it.

I have had great success with using dead sea salt (mixed in water) on my eczema.  That would probably work to kill whatever you have too, but it would also hurt if you put it on open wounds.  Just make your salt/water ratio to where it is tolerable for you.   I would also use the miracle salve when it would bleed from itching or from being dry.

No family history of psoriosis.  They are raised bumps, red and scaly.  The doctor said nothing about scabies.

Thanks, Kristen.  I did find that thread after I posted.  I am going to try the sea salts.  I let you all know how it goes.  Please pray for me.

We are praying for you joyfulmotherof7!  I would also see about maybe getting a second opinion from another doctor. I had scabies once and it took me going through three different doctors before the last one finally realized what it was.  Perhaps you could ask the next doctor directly if they think that it could be scabies, that way you could possibly rule it out right away without waiting for them to think of it first.

Also, quick question...is DH experiencing any symptoms at all either?

No, DH is not experiencing any symptoms.  I've had this for quite some time now--maybe 6 months and have tried several different things.  I am going to investigate scabies today on the internet.  I don't know much about it.  Thank you for your help and prayers.

Would diluted apple cider vinegar help?  Lavender essential oil?  Those have helped me much, with similar rashes.  I am so sorry.   Sad

This sounds like a yeast infection.  Here are some threads that should help.

Rash on Inner Thighs [Legs]
Candida / Yeast: Symptoms & Cures
Candida Cleanse Without Supplements
Treating Candida/Yeast While Pregnant
Foods to Eat While Fighting Candida
Natural Antifungals
Fighting Candida w/o Sugar [Carb] Restrictions
Candida Albicans vs Other Yeasts: Are All Yeasts Created Equal
Die-Off from Candida/Yeast: Causes, Effects, Risks & Reduction
Leaky Gut:  The Cause of it All?
I Think I Have Candida and/or Leaky Gut:  What Now?

It does not sound like scabies.  If the rash is isolated to one area of the body and the feet, legs, hands and arms are not affected, then this would be the last thing I would think you have.  These little mites usually start affecting the host at the ankles and work their way up the rest of the body leaving thin red trails under the skin as they go.

I would try a low carb type diet and see if it is yeast. This is a symptom that I seem to get when I am overdoing it with bread and sugar. In the meantime, you might want to wash your underwear seperate from your family in hot water and just a little bleach. Laundry detergent seems to make it worse for me.

I had this problem too before I went on a major candida cleanse.   The list of problems I had before cleansing is too long to list.  I now am 95% better a year later.   The program I used was THE CANDIDA WELLNESS CENTER from UTAH
It is very potent and expensive but was worth every bit because it was so effective and I was so ill I thought I was dying.  (not quite)    justjane

Disposable pads often aggravate skin there, too...is that a possibility?

I have had exactly this (if I am reading your explanation right).

It is a yeast thing.  Doctors don't even recognize it because they just think "vaginal".  My guess is that you have a high carb diet.  Probably even lots of refined carbs.  If I am right, here is what you should try (others suggested it too).

Eliminate all flour, sugar, fruit and starches (potatoes, rice, pasta, cereals, etc.).
Eat primarily meats, eggs, cheeses, fish, etc.  Have a big salad once or twice a day and cooked veggies like broccoli, green beans, cabbage, greens, etc. with one meal a day.  (no corn, peas, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes).  Remember to eliminate sodas, fruit juices and all that sort of stuff...even milk (lots of milk sugars in that stuff).

Take some sort of probiotic, even just the cheap drugstore acidophilus will help if that is all you can get.  Just take lots, you need to help repopulate your gut with the good guys that will combat the bad guys.

Gently bathe the areas of inflammation and then BLOW DRY, do not use a towel.  Then, spray area with a vinegar/water solution (1/4 cup vinegar to 2 cups water - or 3 cups if it really stings) and BLOW DRY AGAIN.  Keep the area as dry as you can.  You might want to gently clean the area and do the blow dry, vinegar, blow dry again during mid-day.  I also used a product from Jasons that was a talc-less tea tree oil powder.  The tea tree oil promotes healing and dryness and the talc-less powder helped with dryness and added comfort without aggravating the already inflamed area.  If you can't find that stuff some other medicated powder might help but I haven't tried them.  [you don't want to use powder too often because it can actually trap moisture so I would just use it for day-time and then wash it off for overnight]

Once you get things under control, you can reintroduce carbs slowly.  You should try for more complex, less refined carbs.  One thing I vowed after I got this under control was to never, ever drink a sweetened drink again - what an empty use of sugars!

Lastly, I must caution you that this type of topical yeast infection is a BIG, HUGE indicator for diabetes.  It may not be full-blown and show up on tests but I assure you, it is an earmark for diabetes-like conditions.  If you change your diet and watch all glucose/sugar/starch consumption, you can manage this without dealing with medicines (that only make you more dependent with a need for more and varied meds).

Good luck.

I get a yeasty rash on my inner thigh once in a while.  It's been especially bad with this pregnancy.  I've been putting straight tea tree oil on it and that has helped immensely!

WOW! Thank you to all of you above that have left some very helpful advice.  I can't even begin to tell you how I appreciate it.  This is quite a website!  I am and have been on a very low-carb/high protein diet due to wanting to lose weight (hypothyroid).  I have lost 25 lbs. so far.  So, the high-carb thing is not an issue.  Do you all think that the sea salt with water would be better to try or the vinegar & water?  I just don't want to "over do it".  Also, I will read all those threads, healthybratt.  Thanks, everybody!

joyfulmotherof7,

How long have you been dieting?  This could be a "die off" of yeasties that actually feed the remaining yeasties... it was hard for me to get that a rapid die-off could cause the very thing I was trying to clear up.
Anyway, keep eating good stuff and try the topical treatments (I would opt for the vinegar as I can personally vouch for it.)  Also, just keep things dry.
God bless.

I could be a yeast thing, but one more thing I would like to suggest to consider.  It could be a bleach reaction.  I had this trouble and thought I must be the most riddled woman with yeast on the planet.  It was making me nuts and I tried everything to cure it.  It went on for a year.  I couldn't figure it out except that it would go crazy when I had my period and following.  I would just get healed up and then it would start all over again.  Turns out it was because I was using regular bleached pads.  I got some all natural ones and wow, what a difference.  It turns out I didn't have to change my toilet paper brand, but I considered that also.  Just a thought.

In most cases this is true, but i suffered from a HORRIBLE case of scabies right before my wedding (I think probably all cases of Scabies are horrible) and mine didn't follow the typical rules.  I just wanted her to consider it just in case.

I have been dieting since April.  I had the rash before that.  I think it started around February; but I'm not real sure about it.  Originally, I thought it was from our water.  We are on well water and when I would take a shower I would get a red rash on my body that would go away within a few hours.  But, this rash is very different looking.  Since then we have purchased a whole-house water filtration system that uses hydrogen peroxide.  It is excellent, and I have no more problems regarding using the water.  I, of course, only drink distilled water.

The bleach reaction due to pads--good idea.

Are you wearing 100% cotton clothing (or breathable, natural fibers?)

I've been following this thread, as these types of isues seem to come up with my friends who have little girls, and I like to be able to help folks with ideas for remedies that don't involve going to the doctor.

And I am grateful to know that the salts are helping you find relief, but I have to admit... it's pretty funny that you wrote "You should see it" about your recovery in THIS thread.   Grin
