  Family Fun

My DH has a couple of days off coming up Shocked.

What are some of the fun activities that any of you have planned with your family? I'm not necessarily looking for anything that costs a lot of money. Just something that is an inexpensive, fun and special activity. I'm especially interested in things that you might not have thought were going to be all that great to begin with but turned out to be a favorite memory.

We buy old bread at Mrs. Baird's thrift store and go down to the river and feed the ducks.  Just being out allows for some spontaneous adventure, counting ducks, reading historical markers, etc.  Enjoy your family. Kari

A Pajama Drive!  It is one of the best ideas we've ever heard about!  You get the kids dressed for bed. Lay them down and wait about ten minutes until everyone is settled down and quiet.  Then dash in the room, throw on the lights and yell, "Pajama drive!"  Load everybody up in the car and go for a drive, get some ice cream, go the store, go to the park and run around in the dark or anything else wild n' hairy!  It's a blast and the kids LOVE it! Cool Cheesy

Or a lemonade stand.  My kids (5 and 3) did one at our last yard sale.  Of course, I had to help them with their money, but they learned about money and made over $30 to boot!  We did cookies and they were popular, too.  People can't resist a little kid asking, "Would you like some lemonade sir?" Grin
We also love going on hikes and taking a picnic lunch, playing chinese checkers.  We like to be impromptu and drive to a friend or family members house and "carol".  Any time of year. Smiley  Playing hide and seek in the dark is great fun when Daddy's the bear. Grin

Our community has free movies once a month...we just took our kids to see Curious George. It's in a big outdoor amphitheatre. It was really fun!

Our town is HUGE on classic cars...I keep meaning to take my kids to a cruise-in. Just walk, push the strollers and look at all the awesome cars, and it's all free! At least here they are.

We like the zoo, and I'm thinking my eldest son is old enough to appreciate the museum now. Actually, we are going to a reception at the museum tomorrow night! They have a boy scout exhibit, and they are having a reception for eagle scouts. My husband was one. He doesn't care one bit about being honored, but I want cake and punch Smiley

I'm planning to take my kids to the Nature center for a nature walk, and to the wetlands to feed some ducks.

Our local libraries have a summer reading program...the prize is a bundle of coupons...we also get the Easter Seals "Safe Halloween" coupon books in October that are $1...we drive around town getting free food. A taco here...some french fries there...very fun!

Picnics are always great!

When my boys get older we are going to drive to some caves that are not too far away and take the tours. I did that once as a child and it was such a special memory.

Mini-golf and bowling are great. We have a mini-golf place that has been open since the 50s and it's essentially in someone's front yard. I love it!

I don't know if any of this stuff is in your area but it's just a few things I have planned!

Daddy cooks something special like pizza (pie) from scratch!! Our kids dream of Dad's clam pie.
He makes it a big production having all the kids helping.  Dough is begun in the early morning so it will rise.
Toppings are planned  and discussed days in advance.
Preparation of toppins is done w/ old fashion music from Italy playing (blasting).
Flour flys, sausage is guarded so no one sneaks a taste, veggies are chopped, dough is brushed w/ oil just right....much fun had by all, ending w/ yummy pizza.

Apple or blueberry picking w/ a picnic.

Making ice cream (food is a social event in our house)

Washing the cars - a water fight cld start any moment

If you are near the ocean - sea shell hunting, watching the surf, making sand castles

In the southwest - arrow head hunting

Snipe hunting

Fishing at the local pond

Basketball/baseball games Daddy against everyone

Children museums

Watching the airplanes land and take off

Fish Hatchery - plan on being there when they feed the fish

As someone else said the state and national parks are great places to visit
