  About Corporal Punishment & Abuse
« on: April 09, 2006, 05:41:08 PM » by Gabriel Anast
I need to say two things here.

    First, about spanking.

    The internet is not a safe place to talk about spanking. There are very sick people out there that are full of hate and malice, and will not hesitate to find out who you are, where you live, and will take the time to call your local Human Services agency, invent a story about abuse, and try to get your kids taken away.

    I need all of you who post here to post judiciously about corporal punishment. Its best not to discuss the topic. There are many people who believe spanking is necessary, there are others that are against it mostly because of abuse they have personally suffered... a few of them will be seriously imbalanced.

    Be sober and circumspect about what you post here or anywhere on the internet.

    Make friends and communicate via email or on the phone (maybe we can arrange a forum just for meeting like minded folks in your area). What goes on the internet is often a permanent and unchangeable record... it can have unintended consequences. For instance, you might edit your posts now, but Google or Yahoo may have made a record of the entire site last night... this means that there is a very unforgiving record of you saying... whatever you said... and it is free for every perverted malicious person to read at their leisure.

    Second, about Abuse.

    There may be some here that are being abused by spouses. Some people will eventually join this forum that are out of control and angry in their homes. Some harming their children emotionally and physically. This is a terrible thing, but it can be helped and healed if dealt with carefully.

    Unfortunately there are also people that I call abuse predators. I am not sure how to say this, but they look for abuse to exploit it. They will offer patently bad advise and make a bad situation worse. Sometimes to satisfy their own ends, sometimes out of ignorance and hurt that they have not yet overcome, and sometimes out of plain malice. Many times these people will also invent the child abuse stories and attempt to get the children taken away and the family destroyed.

    Because of this I ask that any of you that need to talk about an abuse situation do so off of the forum. If you need help, read the forums for a while and get to know the people here. Once you have built a relationship, ask for advise or help in a Private Message or an email. You may or may not get the advise you need, but let me reiterate that the public forums are not a safe place for these types of posts.

Gabe asked me to post here something I've been learning in the Bible about being "Sober"

There is no place for fear; we must trust God and rejoice in His goodness - but we must also be sober.

In the Scriptures the word "Sober" is used in connection with these words as well;

watch, pray, vigilent, watchful, sound speech, gravity, temperate, hope...

People that are NOT sober are said to be:

drunken, asleep, of the darkness and in the darkness, not watching, vain talkers, gainsayers...

My thoughts:
For me, sober is realizing that this world is not my home. There are enemies and principalities all around me that want to destroy me and my family.  Angry

BUT - I am a new person in Christ and if I am sober, watchful, and walk by faith in righteousness before God, I will be safe and blessed.  Grin Being "sober" is being a Realist that believes all things and hopes all things.   Wink

I am not afraid. My family has been exposed and publicized to the extreme, but if I continue in faith and sobriety, I have God's promise that all will be well. I may suffer tribulation - but not because of my foolishness! I will be sober, and safe.

1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

1Pe 5:7-9
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

1Pe 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

Tts 2:11-15
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

I think every responsible parent should be familiar with their legal rights should some abusive neighbor or family member try to destroy your family by making that anonymous call...

The Social Worker At Your Door: 10 Helpful Hints

By Christopher J. Klicka, Senior Counsel for the
Home School Legal Defense Association

More and more frequently, home schoolers are turned in on child abuse hotlines to social service agencies. Families who do not like home schoolers can make an anonymous phone call to the child abuse hotline and fabricate abuse stories about home schoolers. The social worker then has an obligation to investigate. Each state has a different policy for social workers, but generally they want to come into the family's home and speak with the children separately. To allow either of these to occur involves great risk to the family.
