  Biting your cheek or tongue
« on: November 07, 2007, 08:42:55 AM » by khix
I wasn't sure where to post this (it's not really teeth/dental....it's not ear, nose, throat.....it doesn't go into the illness or medicinal herds categories...so I hope About The Body is ok....if not, just move it...I'm thinking maybe there should be a category just for mouth issues or maybe a category just for bodily injury or first aide issues....anyway, on to the question!)

I bit the inside of cheek (same spot) twice in the past two days, and needless to say, it's swollen & doesn't feel too good.  So, I was wondering - is there anything I can put on the inside of my mouth to help speed up healing?  Also, what about when you bite your tongue?

(Bump)

Anyone?

My sore is actually much better today, so I don't need any immediate advice.  But, is there anything I can do for next time?  (and knowing me, there will definitely be a next time!)

Suck on an ice cube?  Maybe rub some raw honey over it?
We usually just tough it out.

I've used baking soda for injuries inside my mouth that got swollen and sore and it worked great. Something you could try.

Hydrogen Peroxide, half and half in water, swished in the area for a minute a few times a day.  Also, painting it with Campho Phynique can deaden it for, you know, the tears in your eyes pain.

Glad it's better.  I cringed when I read your original post.
