  LEEP procedure
« on: November 15, 2007, 07:31:05 PM » by upward bound
Has anyone had a LEEP procedure done for cervical dysplasia?  My doctor is strongly recommending it for me since I have had several abnormal pap smears.  Can anyone tell me why did you have it done, what did your doctor tell you about it, what was your recovery like, etc.?

I would really like some advice on this since he says it is likely to turn from pre-cancerous cells to full blown cervical cancer.

I am scheduled for a pre-op visit on November 20th so I want to be prepared to ask the right questions when I go.

Thanks!

I had a cone biopsy.  (Which is basically the same as a LEEP or LOOP, but a bit more invasive.)  I had moderate and severe dispasia (precancerous cells).  My doctor said it was to get rid of the displasia and they checked the outer margins of the biopsied tissue to make sure it was free of precancerous cells.  Recover was no big deal.  Cervix will be weakened and could cause problems if I were to become pregnant.  Cervix may need to have a cerclage stitch put in.

If I think of something else, I'll post more.

OKay I am facing the same ordeal upward.  My dr. is suggesting I have leep done because of two paps coming back with dyspaysia and hpv.  I am really uncomfortable with the idea of doing it though and think I will seek a second opinion.  Mine is only mild dysplaysia right now though.
I don't want to risk weakening my cervix if I do get pregnant again.
A friend told my here sister had canceous cells on her cervix and applied a cream that cleared it up.  I just really think that there is a better way to deal with this. She also suggested red raspberry tea/tinture/caspule. May some one know what cream was used I can't  remember what she told me but something to help womens problems.  Okay I may not have helped much but do your research so you know what your heading into!

I had a leep done about 15 years ago following 2 abnormal paps and a biopsy.  I had severe dysplasia and was told this was really the best thing at the time and place.
I have had 2 miscarriages, but the MD assured me both times that it was not related to cervical issues.  In fact with my first delivery I had an awful time due to the scar tissue.  I never dilated, or actually went into labor, and spent 3 days attempting induction.  Finally the MD went in with an amniohook and broke thru the scar tissue and I deliverer vaginally within 2 hours.  I never dealt with the issue of an incompetent cervix in either full-term pregnancy.  With my 2nd child I just never went into labor and needed induction, but the scar tissue  was gone as the first child had cleared the way and his delivery was a snap.
I actually had the procedure done 2 weeks before my wedding.  There was no prep and I had no adverse effects from it that I could tell.

here's another thread on this, also, the book i mentioned in that thread also said that the cone biopsy is very destructive.  it said the displaysia can be caused by estrogen dominance and treated with progesterone cream.  i am new to the book, but so far i am about 1/2 way through it and it seems very eyeopening to me.  i hope that the info i am reading in it is good.  check it out for yourself, i hope it helps you all.

7 years ago when i was barely pregnant with my 3rd child, i had a class III pap, with "precancerous" displaysia.  i don't remember for sure, but i don't think i had the cone biopsy.  i really don't like the idea of any surgery.  i know for sure i wasn't put "under", but what i ended up doing was the Joe Glickman aloe supplement for a while (it's as bad as yeast inf. medication--yucky!!) and waiting til the pregnancy was over to have another pap.   i didn't like the idea of them messing around with my cervix while i was pregnant.  anyway, after it was over, the next pap and all those thereafter came back normal.  do your homework and read all about it, don't let them scare you into something unnecessary.  get a second or 3rd opinion.  i remember how scarey it was.  God bless you all.

I have never had leep but I did have cervical cancer. DO what you can not to have cancer. I will not be able to have anymore children. Some women may recommend non medical ways to deal with it. It is your call and can be a tough one to make.

When they wanted to do this procedure to me I told them no way! I am sure glad I did. It could really of messed childbirth up for me in the future. I took essiac tea from www.mountainroseherbs.com and did the diet from www.hacres.com called the hallelujah diet. It has been several years and I am still cured from my cancer. If you decide to go the natural route don't expect the doctors to be happy. MINE WERE NOT!!!! They send certified letters and denied me further treatment for not doing things their way!!1

I just heard of a successful new treatment for HPV--colloidal silver. My friend, who is a very knowledgable herb gal (20+ years), had just received documentation from Nature's Sunshine that their colloidal silver (Silver Shield) used as a douche WILL kill the HPV virus.

Their Silver Shield is on backorder right now, as they are sending massive amounts to Africa to kill malaria. When their distributors pledge one bottle a month, Nature's Sunshine will match it, hence the backorder. It's great stuff.

My doctor had said that if mine came back as mild nothing needed to be done.  She said a lot of times your body takes care of things.  I wonder if mine had come back abnormal two times if she would have said differently. ??  hmmm...
