After almost reading this entire thread I am so confused. I haven't been wanting my baby girl to get her shots...she just got her 6 month shots! With my 2 year old my doctor made me feel so dumb when I opted out of getting the Hep B shot that I almost cried all the way home. If you were going to get vaccinated...which ones would be the most important and when? I want to not take her to her 9 month appointment just because I know they will pressure me into getting her her vaccines. Do you all take your kids to monthly appointments or not?

I would switch pediatricians, seriously.  If you can't or don't want to, here's what we tell ours.  We tell him that we are currently reading and becoming as informed as possible about the risks and benefits of vaccinations, and are not ready to make a decision just yet.  My DS is little too, so we also tell the doctor that we think he is too young to receive vaccinations, and we'll make that decision when we feel comfortable that his body is able to handle them.

A doctor should not be pressuring you to do something you feel is harmful.  Don't risk your daughter having autism or any of the other health problems associated with vaccines jsut because you're afraid to stand up to your doctor.

Research the diseases..... What are they? How do you contract them? Are they even deadly or serious? What are the side effects of the vaccines? What are the side effects of the disease? How common is the disease? At what age is the disease dangerous? How is this disease treated? (is there treatment availabe.... and what is it?)

I found the book "The Vaccine Book" by Dr. Sears very helpful in defining diseases and the vaccine ingredients/side effects.

Your job is to do this research and make educated decisions about your children.... not to fall prey to bullies.

Here is the beginning of your list:
DTaP: Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis
IPV: Inactivated Polio
MMR: Measles Mumps Rubella
Hib
Pneumencoccal
Varicella (chicken pox)
Hepatitis B
Cervical Cancer

Great answer Kristen!  That is exactly the point!  Educated decisions.  I have had hospital employees come sit with me in my hospital bed and whole heartedly want to hear my reasons for not wanting vaccinations for my kids.  They asked in very non-threatening ways and were so relieved to hear an "educated" reasoning; they could respect that.  Had I just said "well, I heard they were bad"...I doubt it would've held much weight for them.  I have also had a PA in a dr's office assume my ignorance (without asking) who just got upset and yelled at me and began ranting about my child having trouble later getting into college or something... Huh

I say all this to say IMO you are exactly correct! Wink Grin

Hi Bradensmama - We all know how you feel!

When I had one or two littles, I was much more inclined to go in for "check ups" and thought it was important to see their weight go up and know that they were well.  Then I started to gain confidence and trust my mama-instincts.  None of my 6 children has been to the doctor in several years.  My last well-baby check up was my 2nd child, probably 9 years ago when he was just tiny.  My children have not had any illnesses that we thought needed medical attention - just colds, flu, chicken pox, roseola.

It's only been through reading and gaining wisdom that I've been able to say "no" to the medical schedule and intervention.

None of my kids have had shots except the oldest two had tetnaus when they needed it after an accident.

In my opinion, there is NO need for check ups if your baby or child is healthy and thriving and eating and sleeping and pooping.  Even if there were issues, I would be inclined to see a naturopath first.  But that's just me!  My husband is on the same page, which is very helpful.  He is actually more so.  We've had a couple ER trips for stitches, but that's just life with kids.  Husband agrees with that whole deal, thankfully!

If I were you, and this is just me, I would quit the check ups until I had done plenty of reserach, rehearsed my lines about why I wanted this or that, and gained some confidence.  Take a friend with you who knows their stuff!  Take your husband!  But know what you want to say ahead of time, and don't back down from your God-given instincts as the mother of YOUR children.

Not all medicine, doctors, shots and such are bad.  There is a place for all of it for good reasons.  Just learn what those reasons are and then if you need to see your doctor, go in with a smile on your face, you head held high, just a few wise words, and the knowledge that you know what is best for your healthy kids!

Okay, well I talked to my husband about it and he has never even mentioned the subject to me before but he was very supportive and said that we could just stop with the vaccines and then when they are older if we feel like they should have them (for going to college or whatever) then we can handle that then. I need to call the doctor and see which ones she has already had...I know she's gotten at least 5 vaccinations. Thank you for all of your support. I do need to research though...my mind get's totally boggled. I guess I just need to get a book and take notes. I think I will cancel her 9 month check up unless I feel like she's having any problems. Thank you so much!

QUICK!  Off the top of your head.... I need a few good websites on reasons to not vaccinate (besides wtm, obviously).

I accidently forgot my 4 mod shot appt on Thurs.  I asked dh if he wanted me to reschedule or of we could talk about possibly not doing it anymore.  He said we'd talk about it.
So, I need a handful of good, credible web pages to show him.   Any ideas?

Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis -- 9 doses (There are 9 spaces for them to write the vaccination date in.  I'm assuming they recommend 9 doses. Huh )

I think it's because there are 3 diseases and they recommend 3 times in the first year.

BTW, how is a 2 month old baby supposed to get Tetanus?  Roll Eyes

Thaaaaaaat's what I said!  We (I'm generalizing) get SO caught up in just doing what 'they' tell us, like an assembly line or robots or something, that we just let them inject whatever.  Without even thinking about it!  Maddening!
That one was listed as Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP/DTP/DT/Td/Tdap).  And at her two month shots they listed undet type of vac. DTaP.  Do you think those abreviations all mean the same thing?  I mean, she got all 3 right?  Not just one of those.  Ok, I'm rambling now.....

Seriously, I'm thankful that God finally put a passion in my heart to learn more about this.  I tried researching it several months ago and just couldn't really get into it.  But lately I'm just burning to find the truth and I look forward to God revealing what I should do.

Prob'ly from sharing a dirty needle - the same way they could get hepatitis as a newborn. Wink
The nurse at the hospital was a little surprised when we denied our hep vaccine.  I made the comment that ds was not likely to sell his body for sex, or share a dirty needle in the immediate future.  The one nurse seemed a little miffed, but the other nurse winked at me.

I don't believe this can happen, but everyone else seems to be of a mind that a baby can get tetanus from having their ears pierced.  I had to sign a release saying that my oldest had her tetanus up to date before they would pierce her ears.  She was 2 months old.

I know this thread is for the unvaccinated, but what about partially vaccinated.  Does anyone know if there are any dangers to starting a particular vaccine and not finishing it?
My oldest was vaccinated through age 4, my second was through age 1 1/2, and the baby has had the birth and 2 month only.

I think what their research claims is: With each vaccines you become "more immune".... so 1 IPV shot gives you 50% immunity.... 2 shots give 70%..... 3 shots give 90%.... then a booster is suggested.
Then there is no 'danger' in stopping in the middle... except that according to doctors you would not be fully protected against a disease.

Think about all the people who have severe reactions to vaccinations. Docs are supposed to stop vaccines for them...... These people aren't in danger of anything by halting.  They aren't like antibiotics that you are supposed to finish the whole round or the bacteria can become stronger.  Cheesy

I came here to post a question similar to the above, and then found my answer, I guess!

My kids are 10 (almost 11), 9, 7, & 5.  They are all up-to-date on their shots.  But, now I don't want to give them any more shots.  The oldest is almost due her booster shots.  The youngest is due her 4-6 year shots, since she's going to be starting kindergarten.  I've already gotten the exemption forms, hopefully will be getting them notarized soon.  (and then registering them for school)  So, I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on whether my kids will be ok not getting any more shots.  I'm thinking they will be, but I want to make sure.  Who else stopped doing shots mid-way, or almost toward the end?  How are your kids?  Also, has anyone else had to fill out those forms?  There are shots that my kids have already gotten & will not be needing any more of (according to the schedule), so I do check those off of the form (checking means you don't want that shot) or do I just check off the ones shots that are due?

For parents making decisions about vaccinations, there is a book recommendation thread with some resources I mentioned here:
Looking For Books on Vaccination

Here are some additional internet resources:
The National Vaccine Information Center -- They have all sorts of information on vaccines and even a lawyer referral service for parents with children that have been injured from vaccines. The government has set aside a fund to reimburse families that have been injured.

If you aren't sure under what conditions you can be exempt from vaccinations in your state (Medical, Religious or Philosophical), click here for a state-by-state guide:
State Exemptions.

If you are in need of a document that is a guideline for filing paperwork that secures your religious exemption (you don't have to belong to an organized religion  that takes a stand on vaccines). Go to this site and click on "Biblical Reasons Not To Vaccinate." Or, just click on the document I've attached to this post.

I read an article on Fox news yesterday about this measles outbreak and MMR vaccination thing going on and the the pediatrician they quoted replied something to the effect of: parents who ask me about vaccines and their safety take up valuable time I need to use for other patients!!!
Wow! I thought what a statement!!It really says it all though. I mean if you can't talk with your physician what are medical schools preaching these days, I wonder? Maybe if this physician took the time to address her patients' concerns and applaud her parents for being well informed on ANY medical issue she would have MORE TIME ON HER HANDS! As with all "experts" when you are the only one on the block you will be very busy. But as we all learn to become our own experts or at least well informed maybe 80 hour work week would be less common too! Just my opinion...
