Brr - It's Cold... What is Your favorite Hot Beverage?

I would like to hear what everyone's favorite hot beverage to drink now that it has gotten cold. Can you share your recipe? Good or bad for you recipes wanted. Especially the ones where it is just a mix to add to warm milk or hot water.

I have read already the beverage thread, but was wondering if there were more out there.

Here is the recipe for Hot Russian Spice Tea http://hillbillyhousewife.com/spicedtea.htm. My younger son likes this one.

2 to 3 cups of sugar (depending on your sweet tooth)
2 packets orange kool-aid mix
1 or 2 packets lemon kool-aid mix (depending on your sour tooth)
1/2 cup instant tea
1 or 2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Get out a large dry bowl. Measure the sugar into the bowl. Open up the kool-aid packets and add them to the sugar. Stir well with a wire whisk or a clean dry fork. Add the instant tea, cinnamon and cloves. Stir again to mix well. This makes about 4 3/4 cups of mix. Store it in a well sealed container.

To Prepare: Combine a tablespoon of Spiced Tea Mix with hot water in a cup or mug. Stir to dissolve. Serve hot.

Years ago when the power went out, my DH and I had to cut wood for our stove.  Our neighbor had no heat and no way to cook.  We have a wood cookstove.  I made hot mulled cider w/orange wedge's studded w/cloves and a cinnamon stick.  Hummmm I can still taste and feel the warmth.

My girls & I LOVE hot chocolate! We make it by melting dark chocolate and adding it to warm milk, with a touch of cinnamon and vanilla. It's so rich & delicious. Especially in front of a fire...

Mmmmm............. I really like hot mulled orange juice. My mil got me some mulling spices in tea bags and I have really enjoyed using them in orange juice. Actually I currently melt my High Vitamin Butter Oil in it and put my cinnamon tingle CLO in it also. Makes them more pleasant to take.  Smiley

I just found my new fav (besides RRT).

I put 2t sugar, 1t cocoa, 1dash salt in a cup, then fill up with fresh brewed coffee and STIR to dissolve all the cocoa and make it smooth.  Then I add a shot of fresh milk (I like it creamy).  It is mocha-licious!

Yesterday I had so many to keep warm I could barely type without making a ton of mistakes!!
(Maybe I should get some de-caf? ) OOHHH, that might be why I am up at 12:30 on WTM Huh Huh Cheesy Cheesy  It all makes sense now!!

Is this really the name of the tea? I ask because in Ukrainian "chai" is the word for "tea". To folks that know both languages, it sounds a bit redundant. Where did you buy it?

Double-duh here!  Coffee rules!

For sickness, we LOVE hot water, juice of half a lemon, huge spoon of honey and a cinnamon stick.

I have decided that I will take this health thing, natural eating, no chemicals, all organic whatever it takes AS FAR as I can take it as long as no one messes with my coffee!  Hey, it's organic coffee!

Sort of I guess.  It's very spicy.  To the point that if you leave the bag in the liquid at the bottom of the cup can almost burn you.  It also has a slight buttery flavor to it.  I love it.

Here's the recipe for white hot chocolate.

Quote
WHITE HOT CHOCOLATE

This is a great variation of hot chocolate...one taste and you'll be hooked!

3 cups half-and-half, divided
2/3 cup vanilla baking chips
1 cinnamon stick (3 inches)
Pinch of nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. almond extract

1.  In a saucepan, combine 1/4 cup half-and-half, vanilla chips, cinnamon stick and nutmeg.  Stir over low heat until chips are melted; discard cinnamon stick. Add remaining half-and-half; stir until heated through.

2.  Remove from heat; add extracts.  Serve immediately.  Yield:  4 servings.

BTW, Steph's Country Kitchen is a great site. I have tried many recipes from her (converting most of them ala NT) and we have loved every one of them.

Mmmmmmm, yummy!   Wink
Coffee made with a shake of cinnamon in the ground coffee is scrumptious.
Cinnamon has the added benefit of aiding your peripheral circulation, so it'll warm you that way, too.

well, I just guzzled a cup of my new organic coffee mixed with cocoa, honey & cream. The milk frother will be great when I get the hang of it, but today I splattered coffee EVERYWHERE! Who knew such a tiny little thing was so powerful?

NEXT time, I'm going to do the cocoa, honey & cream AND sprinkle cinnamon in my grounds. Yum. If I'd not already reached my honey limit for the day, I'd go try it right now!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Blessings,
Emily

I love chai too! When I first heard about it, I was also confused because I'd been to Russia and learned that is their word for "tea" in a generic sense. Here, it is a spiced black or green tea with milk and sweetening. A recipe:

At thanksgiving a lady at church made this drink and it was sooooooo good. Now I have to make it all the time...She took some apple cider and melted cinnamon jolly ranchers in it then added some mandirin oranges to it. Next you pour it in a mug and enjoy.

These are all sounding good. I may try the mulled spice orange juice, white chocolate cocoa, and taking the Celestial Seasoning bags in the cider.

We also like to add the cocoa in with the coffee like some of you do. Add a bit of milk and it tastes like the expensive stuff.

I am going to get myself some tonight!

So all you coffee addicts, my favorite is a tea from the holly bush in South America..Yerba Mate.  Find it at your health store in bulk.  Use your espresso maker if you have one and add another two cups hot water to the four cup measure of tea you just made.  Add honey to taste and voila!  you have the pick me up without the caffeine.  It also is an acquired taste (like coffee) but is sooo much healthier and better.  You can also get it roasted and add honey and milk to it, use the green with cinnamon or pie spices, add vanilla, or any combination you can think of with black tea and with coffee.

The Mate Factor has less of the bitter wood pulp in it than the other brands but may be difficult to find.  let me know if any of you try it and if you try it again. Grin  Like I said, it is an acquired taste.  But look, if you can drink kombucha, kefir, and do a master cleanse, this will be a cake walk.  It isn't addicting but I love to drink four to six cups a day.  (okay, maybe it is)

I actually have this in my cupboard!  I should try it again, can I make it in my french press?  I would love to make it in the morning, just because my Starbucks beans are almost gone, and I like to "change things up" once in a while.
