I started taking food enzymes from Nature's Sunshine, and chewable acidophilus (forget the brand), and after 2 days I am already losing the feeling of being starved all the time.  I also don't crave fats as much.  I had been eating cheese, and more cheese, and making lots of pizza and stromboli.  I haven't tried drinking cappucino yet--so i can't say whether or not it helps in the diarrhea department. Tongue  But i can tell a difference in that i feel better and that makes me happy. Grin

Interesting that you mention "starving to death".  My husband forgets his supps on the weekends and he eats like a bottomless pit, but during the week he seems satisfied with what I pack him to eat along with his supplements.  He's a difficult patient to assess, but after many needling questions this morning, I've come to conclude that fiber will still be good to add (haven't got it yet - hopefully today) and to continue as we are going.  Things seem to be improving in all areas, but it's slow.  I think the fiber may slow down digestion enough to allow the enzymes and other supps to do their work and he should, theoretically get maximum benefit from his vits and foods.

I just thought of this--I have always been a "fiber for breakfast" person because my blood sugar tends to drop mid-morning if I eat lightly for bkfast.  Would this help your hubby w/ getting his needed fiber?  I usually rotate between granola, raisin bran, and shredded wheat.  I know they are commercial cereals but IMO, the better ones.  (I have no use for cocoa krispies--or chocolate frosted sugar bombs if you remember your Calvin and Hobbes--or froot loops and those type of cereals. Cheesy)  But that may be a big part of why I don't have the constant diarrhea that some people complain of after the gallbladder comes out.  I have eaten high fiber breakfasts for the last 10 or 12 years or so.  I do have a granola recipe I can pm you with if you want one.

That is a great idea except he doesn't eat breakfast and he doesn't eat cereal unless it's fruitloops or cookie crisp.  LOL

I'm a raisin bran kinda girl, but not my husband.  Roll Eyes  BUT this information is very helpful.  Thanks for sharing.

I just ordered some Apple Pectin today and I'm going to add this to his supps.  Since you mentioned breakfast, I might have him take these before he leaves in the morning and then again when he gets home and let him eat an apple at work.  Grin

BLECCKKK!!  on the froot loops and cookie crisp! Tongue  Cheesy On the bkfast thing too--I noticed one lady mentioned that her diarrhea was mostly in the morning.  My guess is that that would come from the bile building up all night and reacting with the first meal of the day.  So IF that is the case--just My Humble Opinion, now, not something I have found studies on--if he doesn't eat bkfast that is really hurting him.  Even if he would be eating cookie crisp that would probably be better than nothing--according to the post from the lady who referred to the possibility of long-term colon damage from bile irritating the intestines when it has no food to digest.  And in that case you would definitely be right on track getting him to take the apple pectin 1st thing in the morning.

One more thought--you mentioned your hubby not being able to lose the belly fat.  I have never had trouble losing baby weight w/ my first 2, but this time my belly is not shrinking like i want.  Ds is 3 months old, and i still have this "bike tire" thing around my belly. Tongue  i thought it was just from being stretched out yet again, but after my other 2 kids, i still had my gallbladder, even though it wasn't functioning real well.  So i am wondering if that is part of the problem.  I'm hoping that taking the supplements will help w/ losing the belly, if my body isn't in starvation mode anymore.

Sounds like my theories are coming together.  I really think the spare tire is a sign of malnutrition.  Not digesting and absorbing nutrients.  He's beefed up all over because of the laborious type job he does, but the spare tire remains.  Doesn't bother me, but is obviously out of place with the rest of his physique.  Grin

Sounds logical to me.  How long have you had him on supplements?  I am kind of wondering how long i have to wait to see results on this belly! Grin  If he still has his that doesn't make me feel much better. Sad because i could almost guarantee that, while i'm far from sedentary (can't really be w/ 3 little kids), he probably is a lot more active than me.  Grin

I have found a product called a toxin absorber, but it is pricey. (http://www.blessedherbs.com/bh/colon_overview -- scroll down to the box that says Toxin Absorber, 30 packets are $69!) I think it could be mixed and made up easily enough. There are 4 ingredients: psyllium seed husks, bentonite clay, ginger root and apple pectin. A dose is only 10 grams of powder shaken into 8 ounces of apple juice. The result is a foamy, creamy drink with a surprisingly pleasant taste. I suspect that if you were to assemble each of these powders and play with a mixture you could find a tasty blend. Off the cuff, I might try 2 parts psyllium, 3 parts bentonite, 4 parts apple pectin, and 1 part ginger (try tsp's). Then I would just play with the recipe a bit. You'd only need 10 grams (there are a little more than 28 grams in an ounce) per day to get a dose, so a little would go a long way.

Well, I've got all the ingredients you mentioned and I'm ready to give it a try.  I will let you all know how it goes.  Thanks SC! Smiley

This stuff makes a very THICK drink. Tongue  It's very hard to blend also.  Any ideas on how else I could take it? Or at least make blending it easier? The ginger is very strong in it...kinda burns going down.  But my hands and feet aren't as cold. Cheesy

My hands and feet are always FREEZING.  What would that have to do with gallbladder problems?  They were like that before having my gallbladder out too.

Don't know that it has anything to do with the gall bladder or not.  But ginger is good for the cardiovascular system, thus aiding circulation and helping with cold extremeties.  Cayenne will also help with cold extremeties.

My midwife encourages that the extremeties be kept warm as it helps with reproductive organs.  She says if you have cold hands and feet you'll likely have cramps and difficult menstrual cycles...which I have found to be true.

Pectin didn't work well here.  Hubby says it worked the opposite of what we were hoping, but he's been doing better with regular doses of enzymes, aloe gels and male response supplement which included saponins (most specifically Tribulus Leaf), saw palmetto and a few other good extras.  The prostate formula from Beeyoutiful seemed to work well too, but we ran out and I wanted to try a different mixture of supplements.

His digestion seems to be better.  He's way less hungry when he remembers to take his enzymes.  He spends alot less time in the little boy's room and consistency is more regular and normal.   Roll Eyes

I wouldn't say it's a perfect solution - that would be to get his gallbladder back - however, I think everything is helping.  I think he would do much better if he'd take CLO with his supplements, but he refuses to "burp fish", so I am working on getting other omega 3s into his diet on a regular basis (flax seed in the salad, pumpkin seed oil in salad dressing, etc).  I might look into getting some other omega 3s in gel caplets (flax, borage oil, pumpkin seed oil, etc).

He still eats one apple every day and that makes a difference in his digestion all by itself, but it doesn't help with the seesaw appetite.

Daily regimin

2 meals a day
1 apple per day
2 aloe per meal (4 per day)
2 enzymes per meal (4 per day)
1 male supp per meal (2 per day)

I'd like to see him eat more and take more supps (he usually skips on the weekends).  I'd also like to see him cut his caffeine consumption as I'm sure that would help tremendously as it stimulates the liver and gallbladder to create and squirt bile in excess.

I had been doing well on my regimen of
a) the water cure, which for me is 2 qt of water daily w/ 1/2 t salt and a squirt of lemon juice
b) food enzymes from Nature's Sunshine, usually 2-4 tabs a day taken w/ meals
c) chewable acidophilus or other probiotic, 2-4 tabs daily
I had a normal appetite instead of eating everything that wasn't nailed down, normal predictable bathroom habits as long as I didn't eat too much fast food or anything like that, and overall was happy with how I felt.

BUT...now I have thrown Metformin into the mix due to a hormonal condition--long story that would digress from the thread--but the met has wreaked havoc on my newly okay digestion.  Back and forth between diarrhea and constipation, very bloated feeling, nausea if I eat.  I have tried taking it without food (diarrhea), with food, (bloating/nausea/constipation).  It also messes up my timing of my supplements because I have not taken the met at the same time as the supplements due to it possibly interfering with their effectiveness.  So if I take met with a meal, by the time I wait for that 3 hr window, my stomach is hurting and I can't take the food enzymes to help things digest.  It isn't so bad if I take only one met tablet daily, but I still don't feel good on it and my dr wants me to work up to twice daily as my body gets used to it.  yuck, yuck!  I am very frustrated.
anyone have any good advice for me?

Lemon juice.

Drink it by itself or mixed in water to help eliminate those gallbladderless attacks we can still get after the gall bladder is removed.

If my back and front right sides start hurting I know it is either my bile ducts, liver or perhaps the pancreas because they are all in the biliary system. The gall bladder is also in that's system.

From my understanding of it we can get thick bile sludge and stones in the ducts and liver and it feels like a gall bladder attack. Can be very painful even after the gall bladder is removed.

I will drink 2 tablespoons of lemon juice after a meal when I think of it and also will put lemon juice in water to sip on all day.

I'm posting this here but am not sure if it is the right place so...sorry about that.  I want to know if any of you have these same "symptoms" or know what this is.  I have mentioned before about this but recently it has been happening more often.  I get a "burning" hot feeling inside in my upper right quadrant.  It is usually after I eat or when I am really hungry.  It doesn't seem to be associated to what I ate though.  If I place my hand on the area around my last rib on the right side the "feeling" is in the area the size of my hand.  I would not say it is a "pain" necessarily but definately an awareness of smething occuring inside.  I have had my gallbladder removed two years ago.  It was like this before they removed it and pretty steadily since.  I thought it had gotten better as I had not felt it in a month or two but it has returned and is now everyday - several times a day.  My questions are this:
-If it is bile secreting, where is it now going?
-Why do I "feel" it?
-Is there cause for concern with this; could the bile be damaging something in there?
-What could I do to help this?
-Should I be liver cleansng on a regular basis? (I am a nursing mama.)

I also get heartburn a little too often.  It is never associated with what I have eaten but only with reclining to lie down.  This hintsat hiatal hernia I believe.  When they removed my gallbladder the dr's were shocked that I wasn't in terrible pain because they said it was so sickly and green and one dr. said it "looked so gross".  Finding out that I had something so "ill" in me but I was clueless has me worried that I might overlook something seriously wrong inside my body, kwim?

Like I said, it isn't the pain that bothers me - it is definately livable.  I just wonder why I feel this "searing heat" sensation at the site where I was told I had "sick" organs a few years ago. Any help is appreciated... Smiley thanks

LM24,  Do you take any kind of digestive enzymes?  Probiotics?

I had my gallbladder out 12 years ago right after the birth of my dd.  Mine also was very sickly..and full of stones...over 200 small stones.

I recently did a yeast cleanse (Beeyoutiful).  I have since added 1 Acidophilus Blast, 1 TTU, 1 Enzyme Digestive (all Beeyoutiful) and 6 Digestive Enzymes (Frequency Foods) before each meal.  I have noticed less digestive problems since doing this.  And I haven't noticed the "running to the bathroom" problem after eating that I've had ever since the surgery.

I did not notice any difference using this "smoothie".  I still had problems with diarrhea after breakfast...which is the main reason I started taking it.

I have since done a yeast cleanse and have added 1 acidophilus blast, 1 TTU, 1 Enzyme Digestive (all from Beeyoutiful) and 6 Digestive Enzymes (Frequency Foods).  This has made a huge difference in my digestion.  I don't have near the "pains" I had before.  I also don't hear or feel "rumbling".  And it seems to have helped with the diarrhea.  (I also take 1 SuperMom, 1 Omega Balance and 2 Odorless Garlic with breakfast and lunch).  I notice a difference on days that I'm not able to take my supplements.

Lemon juice.
Interesting.  I just started putting a slice of lemon in hubby's water for lunch, but with no other intention than to give him some variety.  I'll have to ask him if he notices anything different.  He's been drinking it for 4 days now.

I also have some limes.  I'm assuming they would work the same?

when I was so sick before i had my gallbladder out, I would get fruit cravings and also would go through gallons of lemonade.  Not the countrytime stuff--blecchh, can't stand it--but I would make my own w/ lemon juice, water and a little sugar.  I would just crave it after I had attacks.  I notice I have been craving it again lately--maybe there's a reason for that.  I am probably right on track w/ adding lemon juice to my water cure too, then.

I like to add lemon to my water.  I also add just a pinch of cayenne.  I like to do this first thing in the morning before I've had anything else...then wait 20-30 minutes before eating or drinking.  Supposed to cleanse the liver.

HB or anyone:

My SIL is struggling with moods and depression.  She's had her GB out, about a year ago.  I suggested CLO and EPO and she told me that two different nutritionists have told her that without her GB she won't absorb anything good from those oils.

HELP!  It sounds false, but I wonder why?

Because you have a very hard time digesting fats (oils) without a gallbadder. But all she needs to do is take a good enzyme supplement (one with multiple types of enzymes) with it. She ought to be taking them with each meal anyway in order to get the most from her food (a lack of nutrients maybe a causative factor in her being depressed in the first place).

I have found after much experimenting on hubby  Roll Eyes, that the most effective supplements to give him are a combination of Cod Liver Oil gelcaps from NOW, Prostate Health from Beeyoutiful, and Enzymes from NOW.

The Prostate health is generally designed for a man; however, all my research posted previously points to the fact that women can benefit from the supplements as well as a man does.  I've found that prostate health seems to be directly related to the digestion and absorption of good fats, so it would only stand to reason that a supplement designed for the prostate would contain herbs and elements that help the body to digest fats properly.

The enzymes give additional help in the digestion process, mainly because they contain bile salts.  When the gallbladder is missing, the body still creates bile, but is unable to regulate the release and concentration of the bile needed to aid in fat digestion and having a bile salt supplement seems to take up the slack.  I can tell that this works, because when hubby takes these, he's much more satiated at a meal and less likely to eat all day long.

The combination of these supplements have made a vast improvement in hubby's health overall.  He is less depressed, more energetic, has an increase in libido, and makes less trips to the bathroom.  All these lead me to believe that first:  fats are VERY IMPORTANT and second without giving aid to the body with a missing gallbladder, many of the functions of the body will be diminished or missing entirely.

Hubby also takes a multi-vit very similar to SuperDad's from Beeyoutiful.  He was taking this prior to all of the other supplements I am currently giving him and it had little to no effect on his overall health.  I believe this is because a lot of the vitamins he needed to absorbed were wasted due to the diminished ability to absorbs the fats needed to aid in vitamin and mineral absorption.

HB, Thank you very much for posting your update!  This is one of the threads I keep an eye on, so I really appreciate your info.  Thanks   Smiley

I also have found an energy increase from taking enzymes and CLO, so it seems we're on the right track!
