I don't mean to argue, but I find WTM a ministering forum.

Woah... OK... this is hilarious. No more Bible debate or whatever, please.

I am not looking for support, or a paycheck or whatever. If I was, WTM would be a not-for-profit, etc.

What I am looking for are 3 things:

1) To test the store. I need it to have a product in order to test it.
2) A lot of people have asked how they can support WTM, and help pay for the costs. This is a way that is fun and totally optional.
3) I'd like to accept the offer of those people who want to help fund the next step in developing the site. It is going to be expensive. But really awesome...

As a product, the banner / dedication is a banner that you can display in the WTM forum, or a dedication that you can make even if you are not a forum member, or possibly one way of joining the "idea" of WTM regardless of your status as a user. Its a class ring if you will.

Some might say this is a donation to a project... and in a way it is, but on paper it is a product purchase. It is the buyer purchasing something the buyer wants from the WTM store.

Now... the cool part is that these banners are not the point of the store... they are, as I said before, a proof of concept. The next step of development will be as follows:

1) The store will be tightly integrated with the forum... one login for both (this is not the case now).

2) Each member will have a "wallet" that is like a small account that can gain or spend credits in a number of ways.

3) Each member will have the ability to upload video, audio, documents (ebook's, doc's, pdf's, etc). The member will assign a "value" to the media. WTM will focus on teaching / research / learning topics that are germane to WTM.

4) Based on the value, and other metrics, the site will sell the media as streams or downloads.

5) The copyright owner (the WTM member that uploaded it, presumably) of the media will get part of the sale price, and WTM will get part (approx 50/50)

6) Money will accrue to the member's wallet depending on how many views / downloads that member's media has sold. This money can be withdrawn via PayPal, a check, or used to purchase other media... the idea being that members that create and upload valuable media will basically generate enough revenue to watch / hear / read all the other media that they want... and that those that don't create media will just pay for it.

For Instance: Kristen's podcasts. Once the store is fully developed, she can put all of her old podcasts up as digital media and sell them. Probably she will keep making her new one free (that is up to her) but she can monetize the podcast archive... maybe each podcast will be $0.50 for a download or $0.25 to stream it. For each "listen" to the old podcasts then, there will be a $0.125 or $0.25 profit. This might not sound like much, but I think that with an archive of podcasts like she has, it might work out to $50+ a month... every month, for a long time.

Now you have to admit, that is cool.

Finally, there is no pressure to purchase a banner.... You are even free to copy and use the banners elsewhere if you like. Like I said before, its just decoration. Adornment. And its kind of fun... and it helps me test the store... and it helps fund the ongoing development.

Well, for OUR family, it was nice to have a way to give back something very tiny in comparison to all that WTM has done for us. If it helps sites like WTM stay online, WONDERFUL! If it's used to encourage others in their research that helps so many, GREAT! If it helps promote something that does wonderful things and asks nothing in return, sign me up!

The BEST reasons I can think of to NOT enjoy the store is if your dh isn't in agreement OR II Corinthians 9:6-8.  Grin

An idea?

Is there a way you can make the banner a link to the WTM store where the member purchased their bling?

He is currently working on this one.  It should be at the top in a day or two.  For now, I'll make this topic sticky and you can use this link.

I have tried to log on numerous times. I can even get to where I enter my forum user name and update it. I can sometimes get to where I can view the initial banner. When I do get there, if I click on it, or click on the "buy now" tab so I can view the other choices, it always brings me back to the log in page as if i haven't logged in yet. I have tried several ways to get in but I can't get past that page...

Click on the link in post 15 in this thread to view all ornaments OR go to the store - click on the ornament instead of the buy now tab. You'll be able to see all your choices. HTH

Maybe try again.  Make sure your account name and password (for the store not WTM) are correct.

I just did it myself and it worked just fine.  Maybe Gabe was working on it again this morning or maybe you had your caps lock on or something?

I believe you have to "register" for a new account in the welltellme store. The store is not integrated with the forum. You can use your same username and password if you choose, but you can also use a totally different one. Once you log into the store with your "new" username and password, you should be able to proceed from there.

Once logged in to the store with your store username / password, you have to click "Update" on the right side, or go here:

https://store.welltellme.com/update_smf_info.php

On this page you enter your forum name and password, and then the store "knows" who you are on the forum...

The dedication is more like a note... like... "Thanks HB for keeping us all in line" or "You could have made this easier... Wink"

If you "dedicate" your "purchase" to your WTM username I.D.: notluckybutblessed, then the banner/bling will show up under your username on this forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong about this, HB.

Rebekah
This is all true.  Cheesy  I had to create a new account in the store.  If you have not done this then that would explain why you can't log in.  The store, unlike the other forums is not integrated and will be the same as shopping online at any other store.  You have to start with a new account and go from there.  Cheesy

Oh, but you need not fill in the dedication line to get your ornament.  You need to fill in your WTM username and password once logged into the store.  The dedication line is what will display at the bottom of the home page in WTM.  Cheesy

Here's more details in this post.

Itried again and it still didn't work. Maybe I am just a dork? I don't usually have trouble figuring these things out...

I log on with the user name and password that I set up for the store specifically (I chose to use the same user name so I have less to try to remember!). Again, I can get to the store and see the first banner design with teh buy me under it. When I click on Buy Me, it just takes me back to the sign in page. I tried going in under View Cart, and that also takes me back to the sign in page.

Is there a Kombucha banner? Or sushi?    Wink

I tried yet again. Thinking it may have something to do with my browser, I went offline and logged back on. I signed in again at the store and the same thing is happening. Could it have something to do with the dreaded AOL?

Gosh Gabe, I don't want to complain but, well,

                        Where's the BLING???

Waahhhh, the first time I can afford to buy Bling and I can't get to it!!!!

OK, I found the issue I think... it does indeed have to do with how AOL proxies connections... and I think I fixed it. So, if you don't mind, try it again and see if it works.

--gabe

So, try this: go to this page:

http://store.welltellme.com/login.php

...and login...

then click on "Forum Badges" in the right column
then click on the image of the banner...
then click "add to cart"
then "checkout"

Tell me what happens with that sequence (not that its a special sequence, but its one I can track...)

The dual login thing is a bigger problem than I thought...

It says they are separate. You need to create a account there. I just did and it mirrors my wtm account so if they do merge I would guess they would merge my account to? I don't know.
