Valerian?? Nystagmus and also impulse control issues in 5 year old

My daughter has Nystagmus. It is worse when she is tired or stressed. She can look to one side and quiet her eyes. But I am wondering if any of you have any herbal recommendations for me to try.

She is 5 years old and 35 pounds if that's important. She was adopted from China at age 2.5 and she us still learning self-control! I have to stay right with her because she really seems to lack much impulse control and just grabs things and sticks them in her mouth unless I'm right there to help her remember not to. I am considering trying valerian to help her with the impulse control and I was wondering if it might also help with the Nystagmus.

I am really nervous about giving her Valerian - I don't know enough about it I guess and I don't want to get her "hooked" on an opiate. If anyone can encourage me, I'd appreciate it.

I'd post this in the 'diagnose me' section and see what folks recommend. I'd be nervous about using valerian too. I'd want to know more about the root cause of why she's having issues like this, instead of just treating symptoms. It sort of sounds neuralogical to me, so I would see what some of these other smart Mamas would recommend for you to try with her first.
