I am so sorry if this has been covered already, but i've looked and don't see a post that gives me an answer!
I am 6wk4days with my 4th pregnancy--I had 2 healthy pregnancies, 1 miscarriage around 10 weeks.
My 2 healthy ones---I was terribly sick from 6wk until around 16 weeks or so.  I was miserable.
I'm ashamed to admit that during these pregnancies I did not take my prenatals and had not been on anything before that.
With the miscarriage I never had any symptoms other than a positive test.

So forward to this pregnancy--
I have been faithfully taking supermom for about 4 months now (love those things!) and I am not terribly sick.  I have a yucky feeling off and on through the day, but not to the point I could throw up.  I have been extremely tired since probably conception  Grin.   I feel pregnant other than the nausea.  And last night I woke up around 11 and threw up but was fine after that--and this is the only time it's happened.
soooo......has anyone else had a healthy pregnancy that was totally different, or had the supermoms help tremendously with a pregnancy?

I'm sorry for such a long post but i'm just a worry wart!

I think SuperMoms are great, but I remember some mom's reporting that SuperMoms actually caused their morning sickness.  Just a thought.

I took supermoms during my last pregnancy and felt better that pregnancy than any so far.

I don't think it helped much with morning sickness, but I KNOW Tummy Tune Up which is a good probiotic helped with it.

I haven't read this thread, so you'll have to forgive me if this has already been meantioned.  I just wanted to pop in with an idea that has worked for me for 4 out of 4 pregnancies.  It's totally natural with no side effects.  I used something called "Travel Eeze" Motion sickness wristbands.  There is a pressure point on the wrist that controls nausea.  These wristbands are sold over the counter at drug stores like Wal-Greens.  There are directions in the package that explain where to put the wrist bands.  It sounds too easy, but it works!

I lost my wristbands between baby #3 and #4.  So with this baby (#4) I was having all day morning sickness and threw up 3 times which is so not like me.  I remembered the wristbands and was able to get a pair and from that point on the morning sickness was gone.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm taking milk thistle as it is supposed to prevent morning sickness. When I looked for it at the health food store, it was very expensive. So I ordered 8 ounces of organic milk thistle seed from mountain rose herbs. The seeds are very hard, so I grind them in a coffee grinder and store them in an amber jar in the fridge. Several times a day I put about a teaspoon full of the powder in a bit of applesauce and stir it up and eat it. I've been taking it about once a day or every other day for months now and just increased it after finding I was pregnant.

Taking it this way is much more cost effective than buying it in capsules, plus it is organic and much fresher as herbs lose their potency after they are ground.

I'm six weeks pregnant and haven't had morning sickness yet, I'll keep you updated.

Here's my update... I'm 13 weeks pregnant and never had any morning sickness. Now I never vomited in my last pregnancy but I did have quite a bit of nausea. I had very little nausea this time, the main thing was that I hated cooking supper and the thought of eating seemed disgusting, however, when the food was cooked and I sat down to eat, I never had a problem eating.

I even cleaned out our very nasty outdoor trashcans that smelled horrible and had maggots in them when I was about 10 weeks pg. Didn't even gag.

I quit taking the milk thistle about two weeks ago as I just got tired of taking it. Capsules really are more convenient, I may put some in capsules and start taking it again.

The only pregnancy related problem I had so far was exhaustion and also I've already gained more weight than I want to probably all that good food I've been able to eat.

Does milk thistle help with hyperemesis or just "normal" morning sickness?  I've read on here that milk thistle has helped some women, but I wanted to know how bad the morning sickness was.  Mine has been severe all three pregnancies and I really want some hope for a better pregnancy this next time!

Morning (all day all night) sickness is a companion to mine for 3 monthes out of my pregnancies.  This time I am taking bee pollen (high in B vitamins) and I will hope for the best.  I am also going to go pick raspberry leaves today and hope the bear doesn't eat us.  The only thing I have found that has helped in the past (besides eating constantly) is smelling essential oils.  My sense of smell is so sensitive and every little smell sets off the nausea, so keeping a bottle of essential oil on hand is very helpful.  There are some that are supposed to help more than others like peppermint & spearamint.  For vomiting, oils like peppermint, patchouli, ginger, nutmeg and Idaho tansy are supposed to work.  Don't go overboard sniffing these as you can get too much.  I'd limit it to 2-3 times an hour.  Even just a pleasant natural scent helps me.

I've really enjoyed reading through this thread, but I have a few more questions!

I've been having acupuncture for about 3 months (I'm 6 1/2 weeks pregnant). My acupuncturist told me yesterday that he can try to "help" my morning sickness, but it didn't really help, and for the past three days I've barely been able to get out of bed, much less clean and cook for DH and 2 little ones!

My next option is the SeaSickness band - you know, the one you put on your wrist and it's supposed to push acupressure points that help morning sickness. I'm buying one tonight, has anyone else tried this?

I've already been taking SuperMom for almost a year, and drinking Red Raspberry Leaf tea. They're not really helping. I've only vomitted a few times, but feel like I'm going to vomit all day long.

I ordered Tummy Tune Up, too, so we'll see if that helps.

So I am just curious...how much bee pollen do you take? And do you take a prenatal with that also? I'm afraid to overdose on vitaimns, too much vitamin A could cause birth defects, right? I take my prenatals twice daily and a teaspoon of bee pollen, I hope this is okay. Does anybody know?

I would venture to say you are taking too much bee pollen.  I am not taking a prenatal at this point.  I make a super shake in the mornings with frozen fruit, milk, hemp hearts, bee pollen, whey powder and greens powder.  I did order a whole food multi vitamin from young living so that I can break open the capsules and dump in the shake.  I have not yet done the math to figure out how much of what vitamin and mineral I am consuming.  Though I did the research and I am getting more than enough folic acid from the bee pollen alone. A good source of information is http://www.alternativescentral.com/beepollen.htm

So I'm still trying to decide what I am going to take. I really like the fact that bee pollen is all natural and not man made. But the prenatals have all the right amounts of everything I need to be taking. So if I were to take only bee pollen, how much do I need to be taking? Can I overdose on vitamins and minerals in a natural form? Thanx!

I have not had "morning" sickness for months.

NOW I am days away from having this baby and I can't even think of food. Ewww!
I have never heard of having nausea right before your due date. My midwife said it is normal and the same hormones that caused it early in pregnancy have returned.

In light of the late hour in the game... obviously, it would not be wise to go out and buy some bottle of this or that, especially some expensive thing from the health food store.

Unfortunately, I cannot just carb out even though that is the only thing that sounds remotely interesting to me. I am supposed to eat tons of protein, which I have never been a fan of.

Any ideas here?

I've mentioned this before, and I'm a firm believer in it.  Have you tried motion sickness wristbands?  They work wonders for me in the first trimester.  They cost 5 bucks I think.  There are no side effects and no drugs involved.  They work by little plastic balls attached to the wristbands that push on the pressure points in your wrists that control nausea.  Each pack of wristbands includes a set of directions for finding the proper positioning for the pressure point.  They are worth it and so little hastle!  I've been known to sleep with them on and only take them off to shower (at which time the nausea returns Tongue).  I put em back on and am good to go in short order. Wink
Hope that helps.

You could try protein powder shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese.
I'm eating more carbs but keeping them balanced with protein and veggies.  I'm so sick of eating the same foods.  My list of o.k. foods has gotten shorter and shorter this last month.  I don't really feel like eating either but if I don't I get low blood sugar.  I'm having lots of heartburn so I just try to eat the least amount possible when I have to.

Thanks Brigonia!
I know what you mean about the short list!
I am just glad I did not have this all the way through like so many women do. I had it at the beginning and then it tapered off. However, I did still get pretty vomitrocious whenever I was in a public restroom or heard someone snorting their snot.
Hope you feel better!

Homes, I used the bands as well and they were a god-send!  I had forgotten all about them or I would have mentioned them before.

At this point, if you haven't gotten the bands but are still preg (haven't you passed your due date?), you can just massage the pressure point and still get relief.

About 2 inches up your arm from your wrist, right in the middle (from side to side), just massage it with your thumb.  I use little circles and not too much pressure but enough to feel the tendons and veins a bit.

With both Russ and Nathaniel, I was vomitus right up until delivery.  However, I couldn't stand to have my bands on during labor so I would massage my wrists or Hub would.

The price is right!  It's worth a try!

I thought I would post a summation of Regimen and experiences here as it finally feels like I have most of the pieces to my puzzle (finally  Roll Eyes )

I am currently 2 Months Preggo with #4 and have had from severe to significant pregnancy sickness (It deffinatly was not all in the morning!) with my previous babies. Normally my sickness starts at about 6 weeks and escalates until 12 and is persistant until 16-25 weeks with vomiting as much as 3 to 4x a day.  With this pregnancy so far I have staved off vomiting and have only occasional nausea after eating other ppls foods.

Most Imporant:
My Food absolutely cannot come in contact with tephlon or other chemicle non stick cooking formulas.
I Cannot consume any food with a high Mercury content (ie canned Tuna)
Daily consumption of probiotics (can be pill or at least 1 cup yogurt etc.)

Important:
An absorbable vitamin supplement (I take the NOW foods Special Two)
a sublingual B Vit supplement, has to contain B6 and B12 (this helps with bounce back and fatigue).
Squeeze fresh lemon juice into my water several times a day.
A RRL tea mix

Beneficial:
especially if there is a history of vomiting take a potassium supplement.
Digestive Enzymes.

I hope this helps someone put the clues together forthemselves!

I read this, of all places, in my new cancer book.  I thought it was very interesting so I thought I'd post it here.  The punchline is in the last paragraph but everything else explains why it works.  Wink

Quote
In early fetal development, the placental trophoblasts produce a protective environment (placenta) and a source of nutrition (umbilical cord) much in the same manner as cancer cells form a protective environment (tumor) and a source of nutrition (new blood supply).  Another observation was that the placental trophoblasts seem to take a downturn in activity around the 8th week of pregnancy.  It became clear to Beard that this downturn coincided with the completion of the digestive system in the fetus, and the activation of the fetal pancreas.

Modern medical research has also shown that these trophoblast cells secrete a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), and the quantities of this hormone rise until around the 8th week and then begin to taper off.  It is this very hormone that coats the trophoblast cells and cancer cells and makes them impervious to our immune system.  It has been proven that hCG is found in all types of cancers.  Other than the trophoblast cell and the cancer, no other human cells produce hCG.  So, if you take an hCG urine test and get a positive result, then you are either a pregnant woman or you have cancer.

Trophoblasts are also surrounded by a coating of glycoprotein including a molecule that give them a negative charge.  This same type of coating is found around the cancer cell.  And in fact, it is one of the chief reasons for classifying all cancer cells as "trophoblastic."  Also negatively charged are the leukocytes (white blood cells) of the immune system.  And as we all know, like charges repel, while opposites attract.  This being so, both trophoblasts and cancer cells are impermeable to to the immune system's natural defense mechanism.

Remember that the placental trophoblasts produce hCG until the 8th week of pregnancy, when they taper off. This is a direct result of the fact that the fetal pancreas begins to produce enzymes!  And when certain enzymes, namely trypsin and chymotrypsin and amylase, encounter a trophoblast cell, they are able to break down its negatively charge protein coating.  This is why "morning sickness"  typically begins around the 8th week of pregnancy - the fetal pancreas is not yet fully developed and does not yet produce amylase, which is responsible for digesting glycogen (the "glyco" part of the glycoprotein coating).  As a result, the glycoproteins are not broken down in to their smallest units, and the mother's kidneys and pancreas are both forced to compensate and become overloaded.  The result is nausea, pain in the lower back, and low energy.  Thus the pregnant mother can supplement her diet with amylase to minimize morning sickness.

I was reading that Papain is NOT a safe enzyme to take during pregnancy...Anyone have anything on that?

Also, I have been taking bee pollen before and during this pregnancy so far I am 9 weeks and I have been having nausea for 3 weeks It doesn't seem to help with that. I have been getting indigestion at night as well. Its awful!!
I might go back to taking TTU to see if that works. What else would work for indigestion?

Papain is safe during pregnancy. Dr. Raffelock formulated this blend for morning sickness, it contains  Papain. If you have any questions, email Dr. Raffelock. He has replied personally to my emails before.

My morning sickness is beginning and the weeks ahead seem long.  I have a sis who took sunchlorella during her pregnancies and thought it helped her from having bad morning sickness.  Anybody else ever try this with success?

I'm also beginning my digestive enzymes containing amylase and other ingredients.  Hopefully this will help as well.

I know there really wasn't anything that I found helped. I took papain enzymes till I read in several places that it wasn't safe to use during pregnancy. So, I just avoided them since I really didn't know if they were or not.  I think the best thing is to avoid acidic foods including sodas, tomatoes, anything strongly acidic.

I never got enough courage to try anything with ginger in it. It usually makes me feel nauseated.

I would like to know if the chlorophyll works! I might start taking some just for health sake!

I thought chlorophyll helped me with morning sickness.  I also used chewable ginger tablets.

I made sure I took my digestive enzymes and Tummy Tuneup before meals too.  That made a HUGE difference.
