  Intestinal Transplant for Colorectal / Colon cancer?

I wanted to add this to the colon cancer thread, but there's isn't one (that I could find).

My mom told me that she was talking to her gastroenterologist a few days ago and he mentioned that he knew of a women who was supposed to have an intestinal transplant (for some reason other than cancer which I can't remember right now), but her doctor went ahead and transpanted the colon too. He said that in that situation they normally only do the intestine and the person is left without much of a colon. He, himself, had done that procedure and the patient only lived for a few more years (duh! you need a colon!). But this doctor had transplanted everything and the lady was doing great! He seemed to be excited and surprised by the whole thing and kept talking about how "great" she was doing.

So mom thought this could be good news for anyone with colon cancer, and something they may want to talk about if their doctor was suggesting that some or all of their colon be taken out.
