Has anyone heard of mesquite flour? Huh

Apparently, it's been around since the 1990's, but this is the first I've heard of it. A brand new GFCF bakery in the area is using it in a lot of their products.

It is the ground seed pods of the mesquite tree.

Has anyone tried it?

(I'm posting this here because it is allergen free, but feel free to move, HB!)

I have heard of mesquite flour.  It is ground up mesquite tree seed pods.  Mesquite trees make long pods sort of like a green bean.  They dry them and grind them into flour.  I keep saying I'm going to try it as mesquites are native in this part of Texas but haven't yet.  I heard it tastes sort of nutty.

Mesquite flour is so yummy!  Native here in AZ, too.  It has a naturally sweet flavor, and it's been around waaaay before the 90's as the indigenous peoples of this part of the country used it hundreds of years ago.  Mesquite torillas are popular and *so* tasty, and although I can't remember specifics, mesquite is full of good nutrients as opposed to some of the other flours.  Yum!  I want to go to the Farmer's Market now and go buy some!
