Jemima--
I've seen dairy cause these troubles.

Hi~ I'm just looking for a little direction on where to begin with my son.

2 1/2 yr old DS:
-has an eczema-like, red, raised rash behind his knees and a patch on the back of his thigh. The ones behind his knees have been there since he was about 18 mo - they flare up now and then and itch and he says they hurt.

-occasional "tummy sick", as he says... which I'm not sure about... I think it could be a made-up thing, since it doesn't affect his activity at all, except an occasional laying on the couch for a minute and he's up and off again.

-nighttime wetting, after being trained and dry for about 2 months. I asked about this on another thread, and kind of attributed it to just a growth thing. But now he can't stay dry even for his 2 1/2 hr nap.

Ok, I think that's about it for unexplained symptoms... I'm wondering about a food allergy... But to what? Or is it something else, or all thing unrelated to each other?

Jemima,

Absolutely a likely dairy allergy.   My DS had all of these symptoms at once.  I would recommend you pull ALL dairy and leave it that way for several years.  It is also likely if he has one food allergy that he has others.  You may want to get him ELISA tested to find out.

our 18 month old has a strange rash.  It started on his thigh along the edge of the diaper cover (we use cloth diapers with covers) about 3 days ago.  then 2 days ago it showed up on his arm, that is the picture.  Also, he started a fever 2 days ago, never checked it but it felt medium high, and yesterday with fever all day and lots of vomiting.  Low fever today and rash is starting to spread on his torso.  Any ideas?  Thought it was weird the rash came before the fever, so not sure if they are related.  thanks

This *looks* like a yeast rash but with the fever and vomitting makes me wonder if it isn't rubeola.  I looked up both measles and rubeola rashes and it looks more like rubeola but with it not being in person it's hard to tell.

You might google both of those rashes and see if you can more closely tell then I can.

I thought it looked maybe yeast too.  I wonder.....I started giving him tummy tune up a few days before the rash started on his legs, wonder if that could be part of it.  I suspect that the rash and the fever/runny nose/ cough/vomiting are unrelated.   He hasnt vomited today and fever feels a lot lower, but he has a hoarse cough and runny nose(clear).   Maybe Ill treat it like yeast and see if it goes away.  Thanks for replying.

If you started giving him TTU before the rash popped up I'm betting he's allergic to something in it.  Are there any milk derived ingredients in TTU?  I thought there was.  If there is, I'll bet he's allergic to the dairy in it and the concentrated form in TTU was enough to send his little body over the edge.  You might doublecheck the TTU.

It sounds a lot like Fifth disease.  You may want to read this;

My dd, age 7, has been complaining in the last 3-5 months of feeling like she needs to urinate  just after she has gone.  I know this can be related to UTIs, but it really only seems to bother her at bedtime.  She might go to the potty three times in a row and can't get to sleep because she feels like she has to go again, even though nothing comes out.  Sometimes it happens during the day too, but very rarely (she is usually too busy and active to notice so much I think).  I have tried giving her cranberry capsules, but over the course of several days it did not seem to help.  Any thoughts or redirections to the right thread would help.  Thanks!

One of the natural sugars found in minute amounts in cranberries is called D-mannose, and it is sold separately as a supplement.  This is what kicks the bacterial infection out.

If it's a bacterial infection, then I'd also do garlic poultices over the bladder area

This sounds like interstitial cystitis which is different from a bladder infection.  However, she is rather young to be experiencing an autoimmune disease.  I would highly recommend treating her with the mannose 3-4 times a day 1 tsp. at a time for 7 days.  See if that doesn't kick it.  If it does, and the symptoms come back then for whatever reason her body is getting infections and she should stay on the mannose at 1 tsp. a day indefinately.  You can test her out once in awhile to see if the symptoms stay gone after a week and then take her off at that time.

However - this is a big however - IF the mannose does not take her symptoms completely away then you likely have a child with IC.  But if she does, then it is likely caused by food allergies at her age and I would immediately test her and get her off of whatever she's allergic to.  And I mean post haste because you do not want to let her go at this age with IC.  But before you go there, start with the mannose.  Come back here if it doesn't work.
