My grandmother had a stroke about a week ago. My mother chose to care for her at home at this time. She is asking me for some help so I thought I would start a thread with some questions to see if anyone might have some help for me to pass on.
Grandmother (we'll call her Mita- that's what we call her

) is regaining strength in her left arm and hand and most of her face. The Dr. said that she should have started exercises last week. problem is noone has told my mom what or how. they haven't even approved (medicare) physical therapy.
SOooo... for starters If any one has some facial excersises and hand strengthening excersises. she blew up a latex glove for her to strengthen her hand- i was thinkin that maybe something inside would give more resistence like water or flour?
Also She has to eat food that are nectar like consistency. My mom gives her canned creamed soups (i'm going to teach how to make a base for all sorts of creamed things!) soo if anyone has any recipies to contribute or other ideas for creamy or nectar like consistency type nutritious foods. should i check out the homemade baby food thread?
The stuff the dr. recommended for my mom to buy is an instant food thickener which is just modified corn starch. would flour be better? she is pretty healthy other than trying to keep her bloodpressure from being so high but not letting it go to low. she is a bit overweight and the dr. said her cholesterol is outrageous. anyways...mom wants to feed her healthy while she has the control!!

thanks
