During and After Antibiotics: Staying Healthy

Sometimes you decide antibiotics will help a situation.

How do you keep the gut healthy during and after antibiotics?

Here are a few things I came up with... but I'm not sure.
While on the Drugs:
- No processed sugar/white flour
- Daily probiotics and enzymes
- Whole foods LOW in natural sugars (to keep the bad yeasts from gaining a foothold)
- No dairy
- Small amount of (pre-soaked) wheat

After the Drugs (about 2 weeks I'm thinkin)
- Loads of probiotics
- Loads of cultured foods (kombucha, yogurt, kefir)
- Loads of enzymes
- No processed sugar/white flour
- Some dairy... in cultured form
- Only soaked wheat.

I have been on antibiotics so many times and alot recently too. Cry  I used to get horrible infections down below.... BV ect, because I didnt usually take probiotics after the antibiotics. Well I have gotten smarter and I do now.  I have not had a va**nal infection for over a year, and I have been taking probiotics alot. I drink  kefir, Some Gr8dopholis, Reuteri pearls, high potency Florajen, ect.  It has helped. It is worth it!  I tell myself I need to drink kefir everyday.

My 7yo dd just got finished with a round of antibiotics...now on to rebuilding her immune system.  My ND said she should take 16 to 24 billion CFU per day of probiotics!  She said loose stools would be an indication that it too much for her body to utilize and to cut back a little, but still 16 billion would be the minimum.  I am now looking for a source of high potency probiotic.  The tablets I take every day are only 1 billion.  I've used Garden of Life probiotics for kids and is 4 billion, but would still run out very quickly at 16 billion a day.  Any suggestions?  I could just have her drink lots of Kefir...I make our kefir and yogurt, but have no idea how many billion CFU it contains  Undecided  Any help is appreciated.

Here is a liquid with 20 billion units per serving;      American Health liquid Probiotic

and a powder with 4 billion per 1/4 tsp. ;     NOW Acidophilus 4 x 6

We have ordered from luckyvitamin.com several times and been very happy with their service.

I have recently decided on a post-antibiotic protocol based on the average re population time for different pro-bacterial families.

During antibiotic therapy I like to have pro biotic foods at least 1x a day to control any side affects.

After therapy has ceased.
Foods Week 1-3
No sweeteners
No Milk (non fermented)
No grains
No Starchy Vegetables
No Fruit
Milk based pro-biotic at least 1x day
Non Milk based pro-biotic food at least 1x day.

For three weeks: this allows physiological E.coli, Bifidobacteria and Veillonilli to regrow which are responsible for milk digestion and the control of yeasts.

Foods Week 3-5
No Milk (non-fermented
Only limited amounts of well soaked grains
No starchy Vegetables
Only mono-saccharide sweeteners like Honey.
Milk based pro-biotic food at least 1x day
Non Milk based pro-biotic food at least  1x day

This allows the Bacteroids and Peptostreptococi to regrow.

This is a diet designed to starve the bad bacteria and ensure proper pro-biotic re population.

Taking probiotics could make you feel better. I know all those healthy advices are effective. You have to be aware that these are suggested and recommended by doctors.

I recently started a fast to see about naturally removing the toxins from my body. So far I feel a lot better and my systems seems to be cleaner and healthier. I dont know about the antibiotics but it might be smart to do like a 21 day juice fast? It something to look into anyway.
