  Unusual spotting
« on: February 14, 2009, 11:02:08 PM » by Livelovely
Ok ladies I need your help.  Baby is 16 months old and I have been having regular cycles for three months now.  This last one lasted 7 days and I just started spotting exactly 7 days later.  My bio markers show that my progesterone is low since it was only 20 days since the last menstrual cycle.  I have never had spotting like this before (started black/brown and is now pink).  I'm doing a colon cleanse in a week to help out my uterus if there is any problems.  I always start to ovulate when my babies turn 17 months old.  All my children are 26 months apart due to my body not ovulating until they are this age.  Weird but nice.  I haven't had any pelvic pain or symptoms that would cause me to think of fibroids, cysts, cancer etc.  I am a napro tracker and although I have had good bio markers I know that progesterone has been very low.  Any ideas would be helpful.  I am making an appt. for a yearly to rule out anything, but any advice would be good!

Sounds like breakthrough bleeding with a new pregnancy.  But it also sounds like you know your body and cycles pretty well.

I'd do a test then wait to see what happens in a few days.

Hmmmmm . . . time for the experts to chime in.

I had a similar situation after my second, and my midwife said that technically a woman can have post-partum irregular bleeding for 2 years. That's what my spotting turned out to be - I wasn't pregnant, pap came back normal, etc. The midwife just said that it happens sometimes.

This is all second-hand knowledge, but it might lead to a good google search!  My good friend recently had surgery because she was spotting between periods.  They found (through ultrasound) that it was a pollup, and then went in and scraped it out.  Actually, they found alot of pollups, but only one big enough to see in the ultrasound.  They were all benign, which I think it typical.

I think growing pollups in our uterus' is common, too, and when they get big enough to rub against the tissue is when they begin to rub off the blood cells, which leads to spotting (or heavier bleeding during your cycle).

The best we could figure out is that they are caused by too much estrogen (no cycle for long periods of time, anyone? Cool, and she decided to use progesterone cream.

I don't know if progesterone would help to eliminate the spotting, but i think it would be a good idea to use it, since you already know that your levels are low. (I am a regular user of progesterone.)

Well, this spotting thing has turned into heavy bleeding.  I still have no pain whatsoever and it's accompanied by clotting.  Previous to becoming pregnant I had endometriosis (college years and before my first child) but I believe that after being pregnant and nursing for the past 6 years that I no longer have this.  The clotting reminds my of fibroids, but wouldn't I have pain with those?  I'm just wondering when the bleeding is going to stop.  This is day 4 now and I don't see any tapering off yet.

Alright, I'm bumping this since I can not find any good info about my problem while searching the big ol' net.  I am still shedding some brownish lining and this is day 8!!!    This is really driving me nuts.  I have an appt.  next week but want to be prepared.  I would like to think I know a little more than the doc about my body and possible could be this sort of thing.  Anyone out there?

Hi, I have the same type of spotting and my thyroid is high at times and I think that can cause that spotting.  Look up the symptoms for hypo or hyper thyroid and see if you match any of those symptoms.
