Try these threads. I'm sure there's a lot of overlap between them but the info should help you treat it no matter what it is.

the only thing that brings relief is a defibrillator.

I'm hoping that this is a mistake & you meant nebulizer (for breathing treatments) & not a defibrillator.  (for shocking the heart  Shocked)

RSV is diagnosed by a nose culture- and it is a virus that has to run it's course, that is , antibiotics aren't going to help it. (I know, we don't want them anyway!) Albuterol treatments every four hours or more often will help open their lungs so they can breathe until the virus is done. Of course, there are varying degrees of this. It is very life threatening in infants. If you have plenty of hot water, you can let it run in the shower and sit in the bathroom with them, getting all steamed up. That helps their lungs open sometimes. Sometimes there are not alot of other symptoms that go with it, but coughs, runny nose are common. Also, rsv is harsh! It leaves their lungs inflamed, so the next time they get a cold, they'll be working to get their breath again.
Whooping cough is pretty noticeable, their cough says, "Whoop, whoop."
It's pretty uncommon unless you are around alot of other people that don't vaccinate. It's common in some areas for that reason. I'm not real accustomed to whooping cough, but it can get pretty bad. Hope your little one gets relief!
Pray! I'm praying for you!

We went through months of whooping cough this winter.  It was very trying.  You can rule it out by going to whoopingcough.net.  Their is a ton of info on there plus you can listen to several clips of kids coughing.  The "whoop" sound is not always present but there are lots of other symptoms that you can evaluate there.
.
I hope you are able to figure out what you are dealing with and get past it soon.

Actually, is can be quite common - but many doctors don't know what it looks like anymore and they misdiagnose it and give antibiotics for what they think is a very stubborn cough.  There was a school in Arkansas where 1,000 kids had whooping cough and over 91% had been vaccinated.  There was a school in Holland - that had several hundred children with it -  nearly all vaccinated.  It really has nothing to do with whether or not you have been vaccinated because whooping cough has mutated and the vaccinations are not effective for it.

We had many children around our tri-city area with whooping cough - but it took over a year for the doctors to recognize it - when they did, they could see behind them how many kids they had been treating for stubborn coughs - when it had actually been whooping cough.  Part of that is that it is not as  hard a case with children who have been vaccinated - but then because of that, they can get it multiple times - whereas children who haven't been vaccinated - get the real version and get it once for life and are immune naturally.  An old Scottish doctor that researched whooping cough - said that he thought that, as well as other childhood disease,s actually help build our immune system as children so that we are stronger and less sick as older adults - may have something there.

I remember talking to an old lady here in Poland about whooping cough - she said, all the kids had that when we were little - that was normal.

In China, whooping cough is called the 100 day cough.  I always wonder why we have the same childhood diseases all over the world, if we weren't meant to have them - just my thought.

Blessings, Nancy in Poland  (who loved having her kids home from school for over a month when they had whooping cough some years ago Smiley  Of course, now we homeschool, and I love having them home all the time!

If they didn't 'misdiagnose' it so often they'd have to admit the vaccine isn't working.
All 4 of my kids got it and 3 were partially - fully vaccinated for it.  The one that wasn't vaccinated had it rough at first but got over it quicker.  Ours dragged on for months despite our constant efforts to combat it but I must add that we discovered after months of dealing with it that they were all sleeping on a very moldy select comfort mattress and I think that dragged it all out because we were only sick for about a week after we got rid of it.

MY last baby got RSV in February 09 she was only 6 weeks old. At first I thought it was just a cold with congestion. I spent a lot of time in the bathroom with the hot shower running. I kept her head elvated.
Then one afternoon we were in the car and the baby just couldn't relax. She seemed to be struggling to breathe. Everytime she would go to sleep she would wake up crying/fussing.
I only go to the DR when I feel there is a STRONG need. I was praying trying to decide if I should or if I was being silly it wasn't as bad as I was thinking. Its like the LORD said go to URGENT CARE the Pediatric one. I had never been to that one. Then RSV came in my mind. I told my dh we had to go to urgent care.
When the DR saw her she said she was pretty bad off and to expect her to be admitted to the hospital that evening. Then she came back and said she tested positive for RSV. The suctioned her out and we went to the hospital.
That night her monitor beeped often because she stopped breathing and her heart rate dropped greatly
She ended up there for 9 days. 3 days in the ICU. I never left her and was there 24/7  Moms trust your instincts.

So what exactly do ya'll take for whooping cough symptoms.  I'm wondering if I have it, after looking at the website you recommended.  I've got this horrible cough that just won't go away....

Right now, I'm taking my normal herbal remedy from ABC herbal: equal parts elder, yarrow, and peppermint in a glycerine/alcohol tincture.  That gets rid of almost everything we ever get, but it's not helping this one.  Sigh.

I would try MSM, skelliot.  Take about 10/day with a really good form of vitamin C.  I would use really high doses of vitamin C, and take several during the day with the MSM.   For mine who have coughed this summer, the MSM has worked much better than the lobelia, but the lobelia helped loosen the cough.  It just couldn't seem to knock it out by itself.
