I'm sorry about that WR. I don't know how my question got here. I was asking about burning herbs in response to something Forevergirl had said. I am new to this.

All replies are added to the end, after the last post, no matter where in the thread the post you are replying to is at. So it's best to quote all or part of the post you are refering to so everyone can follow along --unless you are replying to the last post in the thread. =D

To quote the entire post, click on "Reply with quote" and then just make sure you type your reply after or before the code for the quote. If your reply is typed between the code that makes the quote box, then it likely to be overlooked.

To quote part of a post, do the same thing, and just delete the parts you don't want to quote. But make sure you don't delete any of the code (the parts in the [ ]s )

I hope that makes sense.

Well, I think DD age 5 has the Swine Flu.  It is going around in our area,  SouthWestern Wisconsin.  She woke up during the night with a horrible headache (which is almost unheard of for her to have a headache) and now she has fever.  I am scared, and praying, I have 3 other children and and also a DH with asthma.

So far
I am doing Children's Composition (elder, peppermint, yarrow) every hour. (According to Steven Horne's directions. (he recomends 1/4-1/2 tsp every hour for children her age)

I also am doing Echinamide, a very potent Echinacea glycerite. I know that this is a contraversy, but according to Shonda Parker, the theory is that  Echinacea and elderberry is ok during the Swine flu.

I am encouraging her to drink, drink, drink.

Anymore thoughts about anything else I could be doing?

I am pretty scared, there is a pastor in a nearby town that just had a 7 year old grandson die, they think it might have been swine flu?

I'm sorry, herbs girl.  Sad  Will pray for you and your family.

Is Tumeric something people are using successfully?  Anti-virals like lemon balm and garlic would something to consider.  CLO for the D?  Would baths w/ Epsom salts/ginger help comfort her/stimulate lymph to move the crud out?  GSE?  Oregano oil?

I'm w/ you on Shonda's philosophy, too.  ((hugs))

Have you looked here:
Okay, i think I have a minute to give you ladies an update on my son that had the horrible high fever, the highest reaching 105, but consistently staying b/w 102-103 for 7 days and awful cough. I do not know if the flu actually turned into Secondary Pneumonia or if it was just bad case of the Swine Flu since I never went to the Dr. to confirm. But on a couple occasions he had coughed up phlegm that looked like it had some blood in it, not fresh red blood, but clotty type blood.

Well, he does not have a fever anymore and actually it went down dramatically the next day after I started the Oreganol (Oil of Oregano). He is now back to his normal self, except for the cough and maybe needing a nap in the afternoon.

Here is all the things I did the starting Monday night thru Wednesday morn:

Oreganol  - anti-fungal/viral/bacterial - 5 drops under the tongue - every 2-4 hours. Plus rubbing it on chest, back, feet. This stuff is awful and the taste is persistent. He was a trooper though and took it anyway...but he is really sick of taking it.
Myrrh tincture - anti-viral/bacterial/fungal - given 8-10 drops in a juice 2 -3 times a day. Myrrh is supposed to increase oxygen to the blood, thought this would be helpful since his lungs were affected.
Eucalyptus Oil - in warm steam vaporizer - all night, plus tent sessions for 20 minutes at a time every few hours. We have a bunk room so it was easy to hang a sheet up and make a 3'x5' room that he could be enclosed in.
Oranges - helps lower fever - gave a whole orange after steam sessions or warm baths.
Onion Packs - loosens chest congestion - steamed or baked onions till soft, chopped in vitamix and let cool enough to not burn. Slopped onto chest and back and covered with SaranWrap and then laid a heating pad on top for about 30 minutes. I did this about 4 times I think.
Tea - Mullein, Comfrey, Lobelia & Red Clover, Red Raspberry Leaf, Mullein - to drink throughout the day.
Herbal Tincture - Mullein (4 parts), Cherry Bark (2 parts),Lobelia (1 part), dandelion (1 part). Cinnamon stick - 1 tsp. several times a day
I did give him grapefruit tea once and a couple of baths, one with ginger, vinegar, and Epsom salt.

I am still giving him Oreganol 3 times a day and 1 dose of the Myrrh since I heard this thing can come back with a vengeance. And the vaporizer is still on at night since baby sister has a cough as well. I also am still giving the mullein tincture since the cough is still around. I really think these things kept him from going to the Dr and from getting worse. I was vigilant fro the first two days once I had the oregaol and I am glad I stuck to it.

Just my experience but I would suggest it to anyone who is dealing with this awful flu....next time I will give the oreganol much sooner before i have to fight such a full blown case.

Hope this helps and sorry this is so long. Tennille

Herbs girl....if it comforts you at all I've know several families who have come down with it...sometimes only one of the siblings get it and not the others...Not saying to not be vigilant, I believe they were keeping them separate and such...but just to try to ease your concern...
I've heard of colostrum being good w/ swine flu ... I have NOW's on hand. There is a lot of good info on this thread if you have time to read through it. I believe oreganol oil has been mentioned. Garlic poultices are quick, east and effective...get the other kids on D and colustrom. Carlsons has a GREAT vit d imo. one drop is either 400, 1k or 2k depending on the bottle you buy and at lucky its 15 bucks...a bit more in the store. its 365 drops and has no sweetner, etc the 1k is w/ coconut oil...One drop...not too difficult!!!
praying for you to have peace and for a quick healing and NO spreading!!! NO sugar for anyone else in the house! Smiley

I was hearing on a radio program last night that the reason why the swine flu kills  people is because it gets into the lung tissues and wrecks havoc and causes viral pneumonia. The girl in a near by town died as the result of pneumonia from the swine flu.

So I am looking for stuff that helps with pneumonia such as grapefruit peel tea. And other citris fruts.

What else would help?

I can certainly understand a mothers fear of this because it didn't really bother me until a little girl here died of it.
Some of the more popular well known stuff I have on hand or can get near by is:

Apple cider vinegar mullein tincture

yarrow

peppermint

grapefruit

vit D

pine needles

I couldnt harvest any butterfly weed because it either ran away or something ate them all up. Roll Eyes

I know I sound like a broken record, and I know it's hard to find or even buy some, but I have to mention Rabbit Tobacco (again). It is used to treat, not only influenza, colds, Asthma, & TB, but also pneumonia. I is an expectorant, it treats respiratory catarrh, and congestion. It is also antimicrobial so it shortens the length of illnesses. Good stuff, and definitely worth looking for!

Thanks so much everyone for the prayers, suggestions and help!

DD is not throwing up at this point, Praise The Lord.  Just fever and  I think, body aches too. I tried to give her a garlic enema and she did not like it too well.  The Composition formula and teas seem to be lowering her fever. (although it does seem to go up, and then down again.)

I started Elderberry too, that is supposed to help with fevers and flu.

I know the D3 is important, but she is not eating anything. In order for D3 to absorb, you have to have a fat (food) with it. I suppose Cod Liver oil would work, but on an empty stomach? Wasnt sure about that.  I know our local pharmacy has Cod Liver Oil, I think.

I am planning or in the process of giving stuff to the other children.  I have Colostrum, NOW and also Symbiotics Colostrum Immune that has Olive Leaf, ect in it tool  My herb cupboard isnt as full as it could be right now!     It is nice when I have everything on hand that I need!

whiterock- I will look into the Rabbit  Tobacca and do some resarch on it.

BJ BOBBIE JO- Pneumonia herbs are a very good thing to have on hand.

Yooper and mommie- thanks for your suggestions.   She was drinking Sleepytime tea which has chamomile, and Lemongrass in it. The Lemongrass is antiviral, and I think the ELder  flower and  Yarrow in the Composition formula are both antiviral also.  I  guess I need to do some more reading in this tread!

an 8 year old little girl in our church came down with it last week and was with fever for 5 days, never vomited but had a deep cough and general weakness and headache.  Herfever peaked at 103 and after that came down a degree everday.

this is a link to a wonderful article that was in the beeyoutiful catalog and I copied it and have it hanging in our kitchen as we have been exposed a few times to confirmed cases.
http://www.beeyoutiful.com/swine-flu-prevention-and-treatment/

oregano oil would be a great thing to use with your hubby if he develops any symptoms...my husband was an asthmatic and the oil helped him greatly with the mucous in his lungs.  Just remember to have him drink plenty of water if you use it.

and if you can get your dd to take the D3 it will benefit her greatly and is a good preventative for those of you who need to protect yourselves from developing it.

God be with you all!

. Mother in Law really wants me to take DD to the doctor OR call the nurse. My brother's wedding is coming up this coming weekend, and I am starting to doubt whether my family will be going, and not sure about myself. (Brothers wedding is 18 hours away)

Besides that, DD has been vomiting just a bit.  She has not been eating, only juice and all the natural stuff I have been giving her.  I added ParaRid to our regime for  her 1 dropper 3x daily. ParaRid has Wormwood in it and is for children. Wormwood helps clear flu and also kills Staph auera which  is what some poeple with H1N1 get,  when they develop Pneumonia.

Her fever is a bit lower than yesterday, she is SMILING, and talking more, and even picked up a magazine.
I am giving her Childrens Composition yarrow, pepperming Elder every hour aprox, along with a very potent Echinacea. I think the Elderberry is making her stomach more sick

I started a very agressive regime with my other children with Colostrum, Propolis and Sambucus for kids.

I am giving my 3 year old Propolis in honey, and Colostrum every 2 hours.  4 tsp sambucus daily, and 1 vitamin C every 2 hours

My 1 year old is getting raw propolis/honey  every 2 hours, and also a heavy dose of Mt Capra Goats Milk Colostrum 3x daily in yogurt, along with 4 tsp Sambucus 4 kids, and some extra echinacea

6 year old is getting 2 propolis capsules, 1 vitamin C, every 2 hours along with 6-8 colostrum capsules daily, and 4 tsp Sambucus for kids

I dont have alot of Vitamin D, just some. How much would YOU give if though your DD had swine flu? I know they say 1000 mg per Lb,  for 3 days, but that is ALOT!  I have some 5,000 IU pills left. Should I give her 3-4 per day here for a few days?

Should I take her to the doc or not?  Im scared of the Tamiflu antiviral stuff, but yet,  my DH should almost be on it, because he has asthma.  I am

It sounds like you're doing a great job with the kids.  Keep it up!  With all of that, if the others do get it, I bet it will be more mild.

As far as Tamiflu for your DH, I would ABSOLUTELY not.  It has very scary side effects like personality change, hallucinations, night terrors, violence, suicidal thoughts, etc.  A component in pine needles is the active ingredient in Tamiflu, so if he does get it, you could try pine needle tea without worrying about the side effects of the drug.  Rabbit tobacco would be a great preventative and remedy for the whole family, but especially for an asthmatic.  You can also burn the pine needles and the rabbit tobacco to clear the air and keep the lungs healthy.  PM Whiterock for more info on the rabbit tobacco.  Here are links to these two herbs.

My sister just called today and said she had read that if you set unpeeled onions around your house it will absorb the viruses and help keep you air clean.     Anybody heard of this?HuhHuhHuh   Sounds iffy to me but with onions being anti-viral it might be true.

Update on my daughter. Well, I am a BIG fan of Children's Composition Formula now! (equal parts elder, yarrow, peppermint)

My daughter improved amazingly well after 24 hours. I gave her  Children's Composition tincture (mostly alcohol) aprox. every hour all day on day 1, and mostly every hour on day 2.  She wanted it more often than that sometimes and I usually gave it when she wanted it extra. The dosage I gave her was around 1-4 droppers each hour  I am going to put a testemonal on the Childrens Composition thread also about this. She started asking for food, and started interacting with her siblings, walking around, and her fever was down on day 2. Now she is acting almost normal, although her body is still recuperating. I gave her the Echinacea glycerite and Elderberry syrup also.

Has anyone tried the anti-plague remedy by Rhea's Herbal Extractions (sold by Azure Standard)?  Ingredients are apple cider vinegar, honey, garlic juice, comfrey, worm wood, lobelia, oak bark, black walnut, uva ursi, marshmallow root, mullein, gravel root, skullcap and hydrangea.

I've used sliced onion, with honey drizzled over it lots of time to help clear sinus congestion.  By placing it close to the bed while sleeping, it does wonders at clearing the sinuses.  I wouldn't call it a cure, but it is great at alleviating the symptoms

I just wanted to let you know about my experience,so far, with the anti-plague formula from Rhea's Herbal Extractions.  My 8-year-old son came down with a flu yesterday, we don't know for sure if it was H1N1, but there is H1N1 in another family on our farm, so most likely that was what my son had also; he did have all of the symptoms (fever, headache, body ache, cough, runny nose)  A couple other kids were starting to cough also, although didn't have any of the other symptoms yet.  Anyway, I started giving them the anti-plague, a dropperful every 3 hours or so, and this morning my son is 95% better.  The others who were starting to cough yesterday, are hardly coughing at all, just a couple times this morning that I heard them.  So far so good.

I wanted to mention that my family had what was probably the swine flu this week. Another family with whom we spend a lot of time got it the week before and it was confirmed by a doctor that they probably had the swine flu (tested positive for flu, no regular flu going around).

I have read that swine flu cases have been either mild or very severe where the victim is on a respirator, etc., My husband had a 102 fever for 2 1/2 days and my 3 year old had a fever that got up over 103 at times and lasted about 3 days. They both had/have a cough afterward. My 6 year old had a fever for 2 days and a cough afterward, and my 8 year old had a fever for 2 days. For all of them I had been giving them vitamin C for the week before and the occasional shot of elderberry. Once they got sick I gave them Sambucol homeopathic tablets. It's always hard to tell whether any of it helped!

The interesting thing is that neither I nor my nursing baby got it.  Grin When I heard about our friends having it a week earlier, I filled my kettle with water and would put about an inch of ginger in it every day or so and drink from it all day.  I also took elderberry and vitamin C. That was about it. I am sure I was coughed on about 1000 times. And the other funny thing is that about 2 days after I realized I wasn't going to get it, I slacked off and went part of a day without all my anti-flu remedies and rather than catch the flu I caught a little cold. My 11 month old also caught a cold.  It isn't much of a cold, but I thought it went to show that the swine flu is easier to fight off than the common cold!

Our family had a similiar experience, I think I had it a while back, and then my husband had a cold like sickness shortly after.  But I had kept my kids taking some elderberries w/honey or the childs composition.  My 2 yr old had a fever one day, probably around 103 or 104(it was over 102 under the arm), I kept giving him garlic oil, and the childs composition every half hour or so, and finally after a nap, the fever broke and never came back.  He even went trick-or-treating that night!

Not positive that it was that, but whatever it was, the elderberry, and garlic really worked.

That's right! I used GOOT also. I slathered the baby in it every chance I got and put it on the older kids' feet. I haven't trained them well to take their  "medicine" so the GOOT was the only way I was getting anything anti-viral in them.

Have you tried warm or lukewarm Epsom salt/sea salt baths for comfort? I let my little ones listen to stories or have toys to increase the length of time they will relax and soak in the tub.

For disinfecting I like to use a "thieves" essential oil blend and also diffuse into the air in every room by putting a few drops on a paper towel at a fan outlet or a few drops in a pan of boiling water. Alcohol cuts oil well, so adding EOs to alcohol works well for wiping door knobs.

Quote
FOUR THIEVES OIL

Clove oil (Syzgium aromaticum) 200 drops or 1/2 ounce
Lemon oil (Citrus limon) 175 drops
Cinnamon Bark oil (Cinnamoomum verum) 100 drops
Eucalyptus oil ( Eucalyptus radiata) 75 drops
Rosemary oil (Rosimarinus officinalis) 50 drops

The above Thieves Oil blend of therapeutic-grade essential oils was tested at Weber State University for its potent antimicrobial properties. Thieves oil was found to have a 99.96% percent kill rate against airborne bacteria. The oils are highly antiviral, antiseptic, anti-catarrhyal, antibacterial, anti-infectious and also help to stimulate the immune system circulatory and respiratory systems and help protect the body against such illnesses as flu, colds, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throats, cuts etc.
I highly recommend reading the whole page!
http://stanford.wellsphere.com/general-medicine-article/four-thieves-vinegar-oil/801645

Before I had all the oils for this blend I would use rosemary and eucalyptus, sometimes sweet orange and rosemary or sweet orange and clove. I especially like using the clove on door knobs.

I know this was posted awhile ago but I just read it and am wondering if this is similar to the Young Living Thieves Oil...........do you know?   Is this just for external use do you think?
Thanks.

It is similar and you can take internally in rice milk just as YL says if you wanted. However, Young Living want $30 or $40 for 10ml. You can make it yourself for that price and get 4 to 5 times more of it for your money. Or buy it from Ebay. I got a great 10ml bottle for $10 with free postage. I liked not having to make it myself.
You still need to dilute in a carrier oil for skin application though.

My MIL came over the other night and told me that on the news they anounced that Garlic would prevent the swine flew. Another thing that will eliminate the flew is to take Elderberry at the onset.  Our family went through it and I wish we would have caught it at the onset with the Elderberry.  If you are interested my stare has chewable elderberry for children.
