Achilles Tendon cut and antibiotics

I'm not sure of the best place to post this so please move it if there's a better location.

My 6yo son was taking out the garbage last night and cut the back of his ankle on a piece of glass that broke through the bag. In the ER they gave him a local and then discovered that part of his achilles tendon was cut. He received seven stitches to repair the cut and is now in a full leg cast to prevent movement and allow the tendon to heal. My husband declined antibiotics when offered by the doctor because we don't use antibiotics as a general rule. However, since the cast is covering his wound, I'm not sure what I can do to help prevent infection. Are probiotics enough to do the trick and if so how much...normal recommended dose or a double dose? Would supplementing with a small amount of bentonite clay internally for the next few days help remove bacteria if it is present? What would y'all do to encourage healing and prevent infection in a wound that you can't get to directly?

First, ouch!! Shocked

I would definately give him lots of garlic (even if it's in capsule form) and/or oil or oregano. Both have antibiotic properties. I would be really diligent with this. He may smell like garlic for a week or so, but it would be worth it to make sure he doesn't get an infection.

And, uh, I would tell your son there are MUCH easier ways to get out of taking the garbage out! Grin

A heated up thermometer might work. Grin

I 2nd the garlic. You can take a clove and smash it with a knife/spoon/fork and swallow like a pill (if it is too big, just cut in half). Take this morning, noon, and night. It works very well at keeping your body healthy. You can get capsules, but I think the actual clove works best. You have to break the seal of the clove or else it will go through you just the way it went in.
Definatley be diligent since you can't treat it topically.

The way we give our kids garlic at our house is to put the smashed clove on a Tablespoon, then cover with honey. It's a lot easier to swallow and really takes the gag Tongue

factor out of taking the garlic.

Also--I would suggest colloidal silver internally. You can do 1/2 tsp. 3X/day for him. I like Nature's Sunshine Silver Shield. It's a special, patented formula. This is absolutely great stuff. Wipes out harmful bacterial and even viruses. I love it.

I knew there was something obvious that I wasn't thinking of. We have a one month old and I don't think my brain is working properly quite yet. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm now giving him fresh garlic chopped up in a tablespoon of honey.

What will the colloidal silver do for him? I don't have any experience with that.

I'm wondering if any herbs or homeopathics would help the tendon heal. Any suggestions for that? If I could get to his ankle, I would use comfrey externally, but the cast prevents that. Thanks for your advice.

Staphysagria is a homeopathic that is for healing wounds. I believe 6 pellets of 30C would be okay to give to him. I buy mine from lucky vitamin. I'm not sure where you could get it locally except from a homeopathic doctor.

Arnica and calendula are also good homeopathics to use for bruising and wound healing.

Thank you all for the advice. So far my son is doing very well. He hasn't complained of any pain, is in good spirits, and shows no sign of infection. I really appreciate having y'all to turn to for help.
