  Possible Cracked bone in foot
« on: July 26, 2009, 11:29:36 PM » by momof2
I think that I have cracked my outer bone in my foot.  I actually hurt it about 6 weeks ago and it is just not getting better.  I finally bought crutches a couple of days ago to try to help me stay off of it.  After reading and researching on internet about the cracked bone in that area, they say that you have to stay off of it.  That is really hard to do. My questions are...What do you suggest that I can eat in order to promote the healing?  If anyone has had a similar injury, how long did it take to heal for you?  Do I need to go to the doctor after all? I know that part of my problem is that it starts feeling better, and I walk on it and then it is hurting again.  As a matter of fact, when I use that foot, by the end of the day, I am hurting pretty badly. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  thank you

Search the site for what to do for broken bones--lots of great suggestions.  Smiley  Here's one:  http://www.welltellme.com/discuss/index.php/topic,3502.0.html and http://www.welltellme.com/discuss/index.php/topic,11045.0.html.

I'd use Comfrey for healing and Arnica for pain on it...other herbs for healing.  Some would use comfrey internally--research that one.  Epsom salt baths at the end of the day for pain relief, too.  Add Ginger to it?

Echinacea helps w/ healing, stuff w/ calcium...horsetail, ACV used to make bone-broth soups will help to grow the bone...

Ok, not sure if this the best thread for this.... My sis was playing first base 2 weeks ago, and got hit in the leg by the ball. There is still a hard lump where she got hit, which is about 2 inches above her left inside ankle. Shes been able to walk on it, actaully finished the game and played another. But now 2 weeks later she still has numbness on the bruise, and a lot of black and blue areas below her ankle. Basically all around her foot. Another thing, just days after this happened, her big toe hurt more than the lump and was discolored. She said there was a lot of throbbing, like pressure or something. Does anybody have advice?? Could it be cracked and what to do if it would be? Does that need medical attention? Could her nerves be injured that she dosen't have feeling on the lump?

            Thanks for any help!!  ~Anne

Comfrey helps heal.  I would wrap it in comfrey and arnica for a couple of days.

Ditto to this! I'd add that you should NOT use arnica if the skin is broken. (It doesn't sound like it, but I had to add that.)

I fell a few months ago and my shin (you know how there's just no meat there?) hit a stack of stepping stones HARD. I cried like a baby. I could barely walk the pain was so bad. As I fell, my right hand hit the gravel hard while I tried to break the fall. I guess after the initial impact I rolled over and my upper right arm slammed down too, because that night I wrapped my shin and my palm w/ comfrey poultices. I could walk almost w/o pain the next morning and had no bruising on the skin of either site. My upper arm, however, had a big old bruise.

Comfrey. It's good stuff!
