Preauricular Pit/Ear Pit Infections

My son has ear pits (preauricular pit) on both ears. He is 4. These are small little holes right near the ear that look similar to an ear piercing. He's never had any trouble with them.

He complained today that it was hurting and when I felt the area it is swollen. The area feels somewhat similar to a pimple. From research online it appears that it may infected. I put eden salve on it. I have done this before when I've noticed something similar to wax in the pit and it has gotten it out.

Has anyone else had experience with these? Can you offer advice on what to do to get this to drain naturally? It appears that most doctors antibiotics to clear the infection and get it to drain.

I hadn't heard of preauricular pit until I read your post so I could be wrong on this but here's my opinion on it.

Since tea tree ess oil kills bacteria under the skin & is penetrating so it's good at getting into small areas I would try it first. Just put the TTO pn a q-tip & press to the hole to help squeeze the TTO inside, then rub the q-tip around the area, front & back of the ear.

If you don't want to use TTO then colloidal silver applied the same way would probably be a good choice.

Thank you so much herbalmom! I had not even thought about tea tree oil. The eden salve actually decreased the swelling somewhat. After I read your post, I applied tea tree oil and the swelling has gone down quite a bit now.

My daughter is also 4 years old. She started getting infections in her ear pits before her 1st birthday. For two years she suffered through several infections and many rounds of antibiotics, including three that she had allergic reactions to. The ENT doctors wanted to operate on the pit to close it up. We were warned that there was a possibility of inadvertently cutting a main artery near the ear. If that occurred my daughter would be paralyzed on that side of her face. We opted not to operate. I've recently learned the operation is not always successful at eliminating the problem of infection anyway.

After much prayer, I was blessed to find a pediatrician who utilizes both traditional and homeopathic remedies. My daughter started taking 3 tiny homeopathic pills, Apis Mel, twice daily. Now she only takes them once daily. She has been free of infections for over one year now.
