Difference between Facebook and Twitter

Can anybody tell me the difference between Facebook and Twitter, if there are any.

Facebook is a site where you 'friend' people and they can tell you what they are doing. There is also a chat function where you may 'talk' to those who are on your friend list only. There are also games and the like.
Twitter is a site where you simply leave updates and can communicate thru these updates.
Both of these are accessible either thru computer or texting.
I'm obviously not an expert on either, but I have used both in the past. I'm on Facebook, but twitter got a bit annoying and irrelevant for me so I deleted my account.

I found with twitter ppl can put themselves on my friends list without my permission and most of them are ppl with bad intensions with nasty avatar pics. So I dont like it because of that.
At least with facebook you can control who is on your friends list and who can see your stuff.

Both sites feature "friend" lists that can be inclusive (public) or exclusive (private). No one can add themselves to your friend lists on either site without your implicit or explicit permission (Depending on your user preferences).

The biggest difference between Facebook and Twitter is that Facebook stores all user content on their own servers and allows for arbitrarily large single user content. Facebook is mostly useful for sitting down to write a longish note to your friend in Beijing.

Twitter has a 130 character limit to anything you post, and doesn't store anything except your actual text. There are other sites dedicated to helping twitter (twitpic, for example), but they aren't part of the "core" service. Twitter is mostly useful for use with smartphones or IM clients.

Migratinggoose--then how do I make it to where strangers cant follow me on Twitter?

Often I'll get emails saying so and so is now following me and when I check them out they are mostly always sicko freaks with improper pics and stupid sayings trying to lure others into going to their nasty porn sites/profiles. Is there a way to block them from automatically adding themselves to my followers list like that without my permission?

I'm sick of having to go and delete them all the time.

On this note-
if anyone is following kittyninja I can't remember my password and i haven't gone to my twitter profile and I realize that there are several people following me that i haven't blocked and they are what BJ mentioned. so just wanted to say that- i haven't gone to my Twitter profile in forever i just get the email saying so and so is following you...
