Swollen finger and rash

For the past several weeks my wedding ring finger has had an itchy rash,is swollen and I can't wear my ring. I have kept goot on it and it helps a little. I tried triple antibiotic ointment but that just makes it itch more. It started to get better so I wore my ring one evening for a family get together and at the end of the night I could barely get the ring off. The strange thing is , it is only that finger, where my ring goes. I have cleaned my ring too.

Any ideas?

I used to have a ring that would make my ring finger do this. It was DEFINITELY the ring - none of my other fingers were having any problems, other than the one I wore my ring on. It's been years and years ago, so I don't remember for sure if it had swelling or not, but if it did, it wasn't major. I do remember that it itched a lot. If I would quit wearing the ring, it would eventually go away. I have no idea what it was made out of - it was given to me, so I don't know if it was real gold/silver or not. It didn't look like a $10 ring, though. It seemed like there was a small spot on the inside of the ring that was wearing thin - maybe there was a different material underneath that was irritating me?

I eventually quit wearing the ring altogether, and the problem resolved itself completely.
