  skin rash on breast -anyone?
« on: October 19, 2009, 05:34:42 PM » by bakermom
For two weeks I have had a red oblong area about 3/4 inch on one brst above the areola area.  it has no texture and is not irritated at all.  It is more on the pink side of red.  Any thoughts?  It does not itch.  It seems to be bigger now but am not really sure, it may be the same.

Now it is much bigger and weeks later.  It appears to have a darker line around the outside of it and is like a quarter size .  The one on the other brst is bigger and the size of a dime.  That one has a more pronounced ring on the outer edge.  It does not itch or hurt and seems bumpy to me.  I have used lamasil here and there on it and tea tree oil and today I did acv and neosporin ointment.  I am trying to get and appointment but they have not called me back yet.  Any thoughts on what this is?  Would ring worm itch?

bakermom, have you heard back on this?  I would definitely do a doctors visit on this, personally.  There is a rare form of breast cancer that affects the skin of the breasts, so I would want them to look at it and rule that out.
It's called Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBS) and can be hard to diagnose, as it's rare and many doctors don't have experience with it.  I'd call the doctor and ask the phone nurse if they are familiar with it, and if not, could you get a referral to a specialist that is.
I don't mean to scare you...this is VERY rare, but it's still worth ruling out!

I first went to the gyn dr and she said immediately that it looked totally benign.  My mom died a year ago of imflammatory bc so I know what you mean. thanks for telling me.
I finally went to the dermatologist and he was stumped too which concerned me.  He said to use clobetezol (most potent steroid ointment) twice a day for two weeks and once a day for a week and then come back.  I am using it and it is slowly fading.  I thought it would be faster.  He said if it is still there then he will biopsy it and test it for whatever they test it for.

I'm so sorry about your Mom!  I'm very relieved that you've ruled out the worst case scenario...I always hesitate to post something like that as a suggestion, because I don't want to cause undue concern, but since it's a rare and very serious condition, I thought it was worth mentioning.  SO glad you and your doctor are aware of it, and have ruled this out.

We've had the occasional wierd rash here and there.  The way you're describing it, it sort of sounds fungal to me (spreading slowly with a ring around it.)   I really like the medicinal aloe based gels as a medium for applying tinctures/infusions etc. to the area.  The aloe holds it in place well, and helps it soak in.  We have used a gel made with a tincture of black walnut successfully on a rash on my ds's chin.  Black walnut is a wonderful and potent treatment for fungal infections, and my parents both had pets that were cured of mange by their parents boiling down walnut hulls and applying the paste.  So I know it works well.
Other options I would consider if it were me were to treat it aggressively with tea tree/lavender mix.

Hope it clears up soon!

The dermatologist ruled out fungus and was stumped.  I HATE using steroids but i did try tea tree, acv, eucerin cream, florazone.  Nothing but got worse.  Now is almost clear but I am wondering when i quit, what it will do.
