Thanks again, Gigi...I've been using stevia in my RRL tea and it's fine.  I love not using maple syrup any more (for drinks, yogurts)...my blood sugar level must be better and I'm less irritable.

I made up a gallon, mixed w/ a little Dr. Cinnamon tea...it's going down well, HOWEVER, I brewed some fresh this AM and it must have been too strong AGAIN b/c I just threw it up.  Tongue  Got to find the right balance... Undecided

Yeah, Maple syrup is terrible on the blood sugars, that's for sure.  Even in tiny amounts it's just ridiculously concentrated sugar.

I'm so sorry about the throwing up thing - it made me remember that the first time I ever had the RRLtea, (not preggo) I had cramps and felt nauseas for a while.  This happened for the first several times I had it and I just kept persisting with it and eventually it went down just fine.

Then, I hadn't had it for many months and started back up with the beginning of this pregnancy.  I had the nausea (but no cramps) for maybe a week before I could really *drink* it.  Of course, the whole time I was thinking "isn't this stuff supposed to HELP with morning sickness???"  Well, I hung in there like a hair in a biscuit and eventually I was fine.

Maybe there is a period of detox-like time with it???  Or just having to get used to it . . .

Gross, yes!  BUT, an effective comparison, don't you think?   Cheesy

This phrase came from a very sweet uncle of mine that grew up in Alabama, so I'm thinking it's a southern thing.

I was laughing pretty hard at that, too, as I mulled over whether it was a hare rabbit or human hair.  LOL.

I seem to do better w/ it after it's "sat" for awhile.  I can tell that I'm having more contractions...it's a little unsettling...they're not painful, just noticeable.

I'm surprised that I enjoy it cold...I almost crave it.....not for the taste, but...Huh

I'll have to post the good things Practical Herbalism says about it...after school...and in the appropriate thread, of course.   Wink

This is EXACTLY how it is with me, too.  It's really not the flavor - it must be the goodies that it gives your body, that's the only thing that makes any sense to me.

Crave it, only once you've had it, sounds like something else  . . . maybe like . . . AN ADDICTION!!!  Yeah, that's it!   Roll Eyes

LOL, Gigi.  Cheesy

I definitely have more contractions w/ it.  Not painful, but like I said, a bit unsettling...my C-S was a long time ago, but...Huh

Maybe you do need to ease in to it, b/c I don't think my batches are unecessarily strong.  You know how they say 1 cup/day 1st trimester, 2/day in the 2nd and 3/day in the third...I'm drinking way more than 3 from the get go.

I'll surely be able to tell if it's made a difference...I've never gone more than 4 days early, and PROM ranging from 2 1/2 - 6 days.

Funny, I've been drinking about 4 8oz. cups of the Mama's Red Raspberry Brew for the last 3 weeks, and I haven't noticed any BH's.  However I have been getting really crampy in my lower abdomen/groin at night...  Maybe that's a different manifestation?!

I'm 35 wks, and didn't have many BH's till about 2 wks before delivery with the last baby, though, and none of this crampy stuff - till I was in labor! Shocked

I just had baby #4 and was drinking Mamma's RR brew for at least the whole 3rd trimester. I drank a lot in the last couple of weeks and really strong once I started having contractions.

I don't feel like it did anything for my labor, although this baby was born at 39 weeks which is a first for me I have always gone past my due date. Pushing was real quick but I don't think that was from the tea, its always been fast after my first.  Where I really noticed a difference was in the after pains. I was really dreading them after baby number 3 when they were horrible for a long time. This time they were completely gone by day 3 I think. I am also still drinking it while BF but not as strong or as often.

So has anyone tried the really strong RR tea taken in labor??

http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=347728
From this link posted awhile back?

I think I'm gonna try it... Not sure when I should take it though.  It says in the article they took it at the hospital. Maybe that would be safest. I think I'm going to start making my tea stronger now, too, since I'm due anytime.

I read that you can take "a wineglass full 3x per day (of the strong RRLeaf tea)  when you are getting close to your dates"  and some mothers gave birth suddenly when doing their work!

We have 2 diffrent kinds of stevia and I checked and double checked the bottles.
They are both Now Brand.
One has not to use during pregnancy and lactation, the other one does not.

When I looked into this here is what I found out.
The one that has not to use during pregnancy and lactation has 18% alcohol.

The one that does not have this warning is made with glycerin and is alcohol free.

The one that we had that has alcohol in it also has do not give to children under are 18.

DH has been finishing out the alcohol one and has me and the children using the one with glycerin.

Hope this helps.  Check your labels.

I thought every herbal/vitamin/mineral supplement out there said that . . .  Roll Eyes

I read some things that had cautions about using stevia while pregnant, but mostly it seemed vague.

I've been using it this whole pregnancy (I'm 35 wks) and for a couple years before I conceived.

I have it daily in one cup of coffee and a dropperful in about a gallon of MRRB.  Mine is the glycerin kind.

I'd be interested in any more info about this, though.

I felt the need to share this experience.**********

The other day "Aunt Flo" arrived.  Now for those who have never heard of this wonderfully famous "Aunt", it's code for "That Time of the Month".  And for those that are wondering, my new nickname has NO RELATION!!!!!  But that's another story...... (trying to behave myself here and not veer too far off track.)

So, as I was saying, the other day Aunt Flo arrived and made me quite miserable.  I was telling a friend of my miseries and woes.  She suggested RRL tea.  I had some leftover premix RRL, Nettle, and something else from Bulk Herb Store in their pregnancy mix.  I don't like the taste of that one very much, so I threw in some cloves and a peach tea bag and let it steep a fairly long time since I didn't know how good my leftover premix was.

I downed it rather quickly because it's not my favorite tho the peach made it taste much better.  And in less than an hour, I felt like a new woman.  The cramps were mostly gone and whereas I had been flooding, the um...'flo' went from flooding to a small trickle.  WOW!!!!  This was supposed to be my heaviest day!!!  Even my back felt better.

I felt so inspired, I cleaned my kitchen.

My midwife told me of this trick to deal with my dd's cramps.  She was in bed curled up crying.  (I was the same way at her age).  I have her take 3 Vitex/day, rub peppermint oil where it is cramping and drink some RRL tea.  Makes a HUGE difference!

PS:  Glad you're feeling better!

Hello,
I just started drinking rrl tea yesterday.  My dh just had a vasectomy reversal and I also found out that I am not ovulating.  I just started FAM as well.   I read in a book that rrl tea would help encourage a woman to ovulate, along with vitex and other herbs.
Has anyone had any experience taking rrl and it brought on ov?  Are there any side effects?
Thanks!

As far as I know, yes it is.  I myself wouldn't hesitate to give it to my kids (if I didn't need it so myself!)

Does anyone know whether or not black raspberry (NOT blackberry) leaves have the same medicinal properties as red raspberry leaves?  I’m not yet certain (as the berries aren’t out yet) which we have around our home, but I know we’ve SOME kind of raspberry growing in ABUNDANCE!!!  I can’t wait to see what it is!  (And I’m hoping that they really are raspberries, not blackberries, as – correct me if I’m wrong – those leaves ARE different!)

We used to have wild black raspberries when I lived up north.  They are my favorite fruit ever!  I would imagine the leaves are edible, but I don't know if they have the same properties of red raspberries.  The berries sure are yummy!  Much nicer than wild blackberries.

I can't answer your question about black raspberry leaves vs. red raspberry leaves, but I wanted to share my experience drinking red raspberry leaf tea.  I started drinking a quart of pregnancy tea a day when I was only about 2 weeks pregnant.  My recipe is really strong: Put 1/3 cup red raspberry leaf + 1/3 cup nettles + 2 T rotating herb (alfalfa, chamomile, lemon balm, red clover, or spearmint) in a quart jar; cover with boiling water; let steep 10 minutes; drain through mesh colander.  Because it's really strong, it's important not to let it steep longer than 10 minutes or it gets really bitter.  Anyways, I started getting practice contractions (refuse to call them BH since he didn't ever have them himself Wink) at about 4 months, but stopped feeling them at about 6 months.  Whenever I was in my midwife appointment, my midwife or birth assistant would ask me how often I was feeling practice contractions, and I'd always respond with "it's been a while - few weeks or months at least."  Without fail, they would proceed to ask how strong the one I was having right then in the office felt - they could feel the contraction but I couldn't!!  We always had to wait to check the baby's heartrate until the contraction subsided.  So after a few appointments of the same question/answer we decided that my uterus was so strong it just wasn't feeling the contractions.  I of course attribute this to the red raspberry leaf!!  Also, my labor lasted 3 1/2 hours of nonstop contraction(s) - no breaks whatsoever.  So one of my friends was thinking that maybe I was in labor earlier, but just didn't realize it because my uterus was so strong Huh Also, I know a woman who drank 1-2 quarts of the same recipe during her 6th pregnancy, and she didn't bleed during birth.  The midwife said she had never seen such a thing before, and attributed it to the red raspberry leaf, although I'm not exactly sure I understand how that could have happened or how the red raspberry leaf would have played a roll.  Anyways, just wanted to share my experience!!  I'm a huge fan Smiley
