Chicken stock that's been in the pot for 3 weeks?
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:32:53 PM » by ridgerunner
I make a big pot of chicken stock 3 weeks ago and put it in the refridgerator in my stainless steel stock pot (covered) planning to can it the next day.  The next day I fell and broke my arm and had to have surgery.  Now it's been 3 weeks and I'm just now able to get it canned, is it still good?  I'm wondering if I need to worry about the metal leeching into the stock... Opinions?

The ingredients are:

Chicken bones and skin
Vinegar
Garlic
Salt & pepper
Carrots

What do you all think?  Safe to heat and can or not?

I'm really, really sorry you broke your arm!

I'd throw out the stock.  Usually mine doesn't stay good for longer than about a week.

3 weeks in metal & not frozen- I would pitch it.

You could feed it to your dogs though- it won't make them sick like it might a human.

Sorry. Don't you hate it when you make something & it goes kaput? Praying your arm heals completely & quickly. Blessings ~herbalmom
