  Rash on Inner Thighs [Legs]
« on: October 11, 2006, 01:09:47 PM » by ALittleMore
I started a new job and I have to do quite a bit of walking, nearly nonstop for anywhere from 5 to 10 hours a day, five days a week. I like to wear skirts quite a bit, the very long kind which don't require panty hose (which, I hate panty hose.) However, I've started to get rashes (of the very painful sort) on the insides of my upper thighs, right where they barely touch when you walk you know? The rubbing is causing painful rashes (even slightly bloody) to form and it's painful to walk by the end of the day. Yesterday it was very bad after only a few hours. Today is a day off, and needless to say, I am wearing pants, so my skin doesn't touch. It's still hurts a bit, and I have to go back to work tomorrow. Whether I wear pants in between wearing skirts, it still only takes one day of wearing skirts to cause the rash to form, and it gets worse each time. This is the third time the rash has appeared.

Has anyone else ever had a problem with this? I have a friend who said that happens if she shaves her thighs, but trust me I only shave my shins.

Is there anything anyone knows of which can prevent/treat this? Surly with all the ladies wearing skirts in the world, this has happened to other people.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks!

Oh man, that just happened to me the other day! It's just bad chafing. Bring cornstarch with you to work and apply frequently. Also, in the winter wear some leggings underneath and that will eliminate the problem.

Thanks for the cornstarch idea.

As for leggings...well...we live in south Texas and it's still 85 degrees in Otcober.  Undecided

I know my mom had problems with this (she is heavier than you though) and she went to wearing 'bloomers' and never turned back.  I used to have this thing sort of when  I was working (12+yrs ago) and I started wearing spandex shorts.  They were popular then but now I would wear compression shorts.  You would find them in the 'exercise wear' section of the department stores (Target around here).  They are spandex with a cotton crotch and I wear them under regular shorts when walking on the treadmill.

That's not gonna be a prefect cure and it wouldn't be my first choice if I had others, but it puts a thin fabric layer (that doesn't shift around) where the friction is.

I thing that a cotten split slip would be a great option.  They are much more comfy than spandex type shorts, and the dont have elastic around the led like most bloomers do.  They are kinda like cullottes but made with a thin white fabric and used in place of a regular slip.  They will hep you stay cool, I think.

So its hot there.  It snowed all yesterday morning here!

A quick (and comfortable) fix is some 100% cotton leotard shorts and/or gym shorts underneath your skirt. Before you say you'll die of heat stroke, remember that I said 100% cotton. This will allow your skin to breathe and wick the moisture away from your skin.

Remember grandma with the hoop skirts? There was a reason she wore pantaloons. She knew what would happen to her legs in the 90+ degree heat and 90%+ humidity that is normal here for our summers in the south. She also wore all natural fabrics. And that's why grandpa wore long underwear too! You don't want to think about what wool pants would do to a man in the summer without them.

If you try this with synthetic blends, you will only cause more chaffing as it will create more heat and sweat -- you wouldn't want to start a fire!

Another helpful hint is that if you choose the gym shorts (or cotton split legged slip), the legs are usually wide enough that you don't have to worry about pulling the undergarment up and down when you go to the bathroom. Just move the leg hole over while you relieve yourself. (Grandma just had split bottomed pantaloons  Shocked)

REI sells a thing that's like a deodorant stick -- but more like a clear glide.  You wipe it on your legs or arms or wherever you get a rash from friction and it works GREAT.  It's with all the camping stuff.  I own it, but I'm not at home so I can't tell you the name right off.

Keep an eye on it.  If it's just a heat/friction rash, then the cornstarch and/or cotton pants should take care of it, but if the rash worsens or doesn't heal, it could be a yeast infection.  I had this once, years ago.  It was caused from excess moisture in that area from sweating and some incontinence (very big preggo at the time).  If this is the case, the rash will begin to raise off the skin and discolor to a dark red or purple color.  If this happens, then you need to treat for yeast.

Does it raise as a big area or in bumps?  Does the whole thing discolor?  Starting to sound familiar...and I was hoping it was a heat rash.

Usually one big area, but it could be patchy.  The color seems to darken with the severity of the rash.  When I got it, I thought it was heat rash and used corn starch.  After several days of discomfort, I sat down with a mirror (big preggo, remember) and looked a bit closer and the outer edges were dark red and the innermost parts were purple.

Yikes...

Well, it isn't discolored, in fact you couldn't even tell there's a rash if the spots weren't irritated to where they caused abrasions.

I'm going to put some cream on them tonight and look into something to wear underneath as has been mentioned above.

Thanks, ladies.

Hello Ladies,
Please help me determine the problem I've had for quite a while and now it got worse.
I always had what looks like a rash on my inner thighs just at the top.  It looks like little red dots not too close together.   A few days ago it started to get worse.  Now the rash is down to my knees, it is wider and some of the red dots are a bigger in size.  I also noticed that I have a few below my knees,  some on my outer thighs and a few on my chest.  They don't hurt or scratch (although, the bigger ones do scratch),  but very unsightly. Embarrassed (when wearing shorts)  I'm starting to think that it's not just skin abnormality, maybe its allergies, or yeast, or something else.  Please let me know what you think, of if anybody had this condition before.
Also, I forgot to mention, I have a skin problem on both of my upper arms, I'm not sure what it is called.  I saw a doctor and she said that it's not cureable and probably hereditary.  It looks like a rash, little red dots with a white dot in the center and if you squeeze it, white stuff comes out. Shocked  Sorry, I know it sounds gross.  I never had it before I was married  Undecided, and I can't remember when I got it the first time.  (I think it was after I had my first child)  I just hope there is somebody who knows if this can be treated, or what it is.  All replies will be really appreciated!!

Oh no!  I have this.  I thought it was just rub-rash, heat rash.  WHat can I do?  I would put the live culture yogurt on my son when he was in diapers with diaper rash, and it really seemed to work, is that what I need to do?  This never seems to go away, and is purple and red in sort of streaks, and they are raised.  I can hardly do anything, just walking around all day in the house makes it so painful at night.

Recently I needed to wear a bloomer under a lightweight skirt - my thighs do touch  Cry but I couldn't wear one that could possibly show. I was in a huge hurry and I grabbed a pair of my exercise pants cotton/lycra blend - basically very fitted but not tight.  I cut them to the desired length and they were PERFECT!  Not hot, not visible because they fit my legs perfectly, non-chaffing and they stayed put without even stitching the bottom.  Hope this gives someone an idea who has some old pants laying around from when they used to work out Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Treat for yeast. Here are many threads on it.  I would choose a method that is for immediate relief of symptoms on the skin:  Yogurt, Coconut Oil, etc and then treat internally as well, garlic, probiotics, Yeast Assassin, etc.

In the hot summer I still wear cotton shorts (exercise kind that can even be found at Walmart) under my skirts.  I used to get the chaffing but now I don't.  I did use shorts one time that we not all cotton with lycra in them and am still trying to get rid of the very itchy upper thigh rash. I noticed when I took garlic internally it seemed to go away.  I simply cut up 2 cloves of garlic into bite-size pieces and swallow them. I do this 3 times a day when I'm sick or notice something going on where i need it. I'm thinking 5-7 days of this should be good.  Does anyone suggest to go longer or shorter w/ingesting garlic?

Thanks HB for mentioning yeast....didn't even cross my mind!  Makes sense though Smiley

looking for ideas.....this does not relate to the "thighs rubbing together" theme of this thread.  we went to an indoor waterpark and were in the water a lot for 3 days.  my son has a rash around the top of his thighs, raised bumps, but not like pimples.  larger oddly shaped stuff.  it itches.  i am putting an herbal salve on it right now. my 4yo dd. had irritated skin in the same place, but not as bad.  the salve made it go a way overnight.  i've never seen this wierd stuff before.  anybody else ever had it?  thanks.
