Did this period coincide with the flu where you drank a gallon of red raspberry tea?

No, my odd "period" started before my sickness, although the new bleeding (6 days after) did.

ENDOMETREOSIS:

From my understanding of it is is caused by several things hormones and aging being one of them. It is when the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus and spreads onto the outside of the uterus and onto other surrounding organs.

The extra uterine lining tissue will also get real thick and clog up the fallopian tubes thus preventing  conception  or making it hard because the sperm cant hardly fight its way threw all that tissue to get up the fallopian tubes to get to the egg.

The tissue also can make it self bleed at any time of the month and sometimes holds onto old blood and lets it come out whenever. Some women have pain with endometrosis and some dont.

My endometreosis was so bad that herbs and trying to fix the hormones did not help but I have heard of other women getting it under control once they get their hormones back in order.

Thanks BJ, I haven't had any symptoms like this before, so hopefully it is just my hormones out of whack, which now that I think about it..

Could stress have caused something to go out of whack? Right when I was supposed to ovulate I broke down, by myself, without my cell phone or pepper spray for a whole hour before my DH found me. Needless to say I was quite stressed and scared. Since that had occured I had naturally expected my period to be delayed, but not different...

I'm hoping that someone can learn a bit from this experience.  Here's one I'm puzzling out now.  Insight would be appreciated.

38yo, 12 pregnancies, no complication, no miscarriage, nothing odd OB/GYN-wise, history of 26-27 day cycles
begins ~4+mo post partum
Cloth only - no commercial pads.

Day 1-6       5 day bleeding cycle.  Begins moderate.  Heavy for one day. Flow tapers & stops.  Nothing unusual.

Day 11 (approx)     Baby growth spurt.

Day 16? 18?   Began taking Mama's Milk Tea ground & in capsule form, ~5 per day.  Worked great - increased production in 24-36 hrs.

Day 22- 29/30    Bleeding begins again.  Still taking MMT caps.  d22 starts moderate.  d23 is very heavy.  d24 beginning to have small (1/4 inch long, solid) clots.  d25 & d27 clots are 1-2 inches, solid and are followed be drastic increase in bleeding.  Dripping.  d28 Stopped all MMT and had cayenne orally 1TB per dose, 3-4 doses during day.  Flow changed to moderate overnight.  d29 light flow.  2 doses of cayenne.  d30 nothing.

Day 48 (26 days after d22)   Moderate flow.
Day 49 heavy
Day 50 moderate
Day 51 very heavy.  clots. Cayenne 2x and decreased flow back to light/moderate.

I'm not sure what's going on here.  There are a ton of hormonal factors that are not measurable w/o testing (not gonna do it).  From a symptom management perspective, the cayenne seems to be quickly & directly affecting whatever it is.

Sarah,

This sounds like perimenopause symptoms.  I wonder if black cohosh and/or vitex, wild yam and licorice root wouldn't help?  I just started my SIL on these (they are mixed in a formula) because she was having similar symptoms of very heavy bleeding/clotting (she's in the beginning of menopause).  Low progesterone can cause excessive bleeding in which case wild yam or progesterone cream would be in order.  After 12 pregnancies it wouldn't be abnormal to have low progsterone.

Someone told me that about every ten years a woman's body goes through hormonal changes where the cycle will change in some way.  Is it possible that's all that's happening here?

The other thing is, if you're still nursing (assuming you are) your hormones are also going to be whacked out.

But honestly, it sure just sounds like your hormones are changing up from pregnancy/nursing.

Not sure this helped much but it doesn't sound like anything to worry about.  More just an annoyance.

Did your postpartum bleeding stop at a normal rate - done by 4-6 weeks?

Then it was at 4 months you started your "cycle?"

Could you have any retained placenta from the birth?

Pregnant and miscarrying now?

I know women who start peri-menopause at your age, but often (not always) they are in poor health, poor fitness, poor hormones in the past, poor nutrition, poor weight.  I know those things don't describe you, and I know it's not a science.

How long do you usually nurse?

Can you see a chiropractor?

Dumb question - does a woman's uterus get worn out after many pregnancies, or become lazy?  Sure there are plenty of women who've had many many babies, but is there a trend of multiple births with early menopause or anything?

"Women shall be saved through the bearing of children" - and I trust that!  So I'm not suggesting "too many babies" - quite the contrary, you're my hero.  Smiley

Just thinkin' out loud.

When I was recouping after one birth, I kept having problems bleeding very heavily.  I was anemic to begin with, but too, I kept doing things that I should not have been doing post partem (like packing to move three states away!).  I got put on bed rest.

What she told me in a nutshell is that the capilaries are popped open during birth so that there is an actual open wound inside the uterus.  Just like a wound on the outside of your body, if you move it the wrong way or exert it too much, you can pop the vessels back open again and begin bleeding.

My guess is that maybe you are doing a little too much (running 5 miles?) fairly soon after you have just given birth.  Four months isn't that long ago.

I would consider maybe working on letting the uterus heal some.  Adding RRL tea, a good calcium/magnesium, and CLO and anything else that would help heal it and help it stay healed.  I would also add in good high doses of vitamin C and MSM.  C is in every cell in the body and helps make cell walls stronger.  The sulfur in MSM helps make cell walls more elastic, keeping them from breaking.

I figure after several births, that maybe it's not quite what it used to be and is a little sluggish about staying healed.

Yes.  By 4 weeks for sure.  Maybe a bit sooner.  Not a lot sooner though.

Then it was at 4 months you started your "cycle?"

Yes.  Seemed to be a normal 'first one' for me.

Could you have any retained placenta from the birth?

Well, I don't think so.  I asked specifically about placenta condition cuz I had my best pregnancy as far as varicose veins were concerned.  I was curious to know if the butcher's broom root & horse chestnut may have changed the state of the placenta give that those things were taken for a vascular condition.

Doc & nurse both said things looked very normal and all was good.

Pregnant and miscarrying now?

I don't think so.  Possible I guess.  No personal experience in that area.  And I don't do pregnancy tests usually until it's obvious.

How long do you usually nurse?

Mine quit on their own between 6 & 9 mo.  Sometimes as long as 12-13 mo.  Still nursing Flip now at 6 mo old 4-5 times/day.

Can you see a chiropractor?

Yes.  I'll ask questions there.  Good idea!

I don't know.  I have a history of postpartum bleeding right after birth - uterus won't clamp down.  But I've had no problems after the first 24 hrs since this one was born.  And nothing like these symptoms before.

Just thinkin' out loud.

Right!  That's what I'm looking for.

Makes sense.

OK.  Will the Cal/Mag back (skipped that after delivery - duh!).  Vit C is a good idea for me.  Will look at MSM.

uh... just got a new dandy running hat so I'm not looking to quit that right away but I'll keep it in mind.  hmmm....

OK.  Got more to think about - THANKS, friends!

Just happened to stumble on this and don't know if this is normal or not, but I have found that MMT messes with my bleeding/cycles.  Makes them heavier and will shorten my cycle length.  It has not personally that I've noticed make my bleeding days longer, but something to consider.

My own example, normally start around 5 or 6 months post partum, but if I do the tea to heavily before that time I'll have a random 'period' or bleeding, but if I go off the tea I won't start 'cycling' (no ovulation no more 'periods') until normal start time.
