Help! [/color]
I  have what seems to be chronic sinusitis (sp?). It usually isn't as bad in the summer time, but the fall and winter and spring seems to be the worst times. Since Thanksgiving Day, I have had on/off, but pretty much ongoing, sinus pressure and headaces, a "stopped up" head, sinus drainage, a stuffy clogged nose and swollen throat. This is the first time that I've noticed swelling in my face and jawls and every day I wake up with swollen, puffy under eyes. I seem to have headaces more so on the left side of my head, the side that is swollen more and the side that feels more stopped up and drainy. I have started eating my 3 raw cloves of garlic daily (today) and have been making cayenne tea at night. I just gargled in peroxide. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO GET RID OF THIS JUNK?! Since this all started, it has creeped into my chest twice, trying to form bronchitis and I've been on 2 brief rounds of antibiotic  Cry (which kept it out of my chest, but never cleared up the sinus yuck itself) and I just wish I could find a way to get this junk out of me! I also have a weird, gristle-like thing behind my left ear that feels like a movable string or gland under the skin. My other ear doesn't have one. Also, for two years now, I've had a pea-sized knot further behind the same ear. It sometimes *almost* goes away but never fully. It goes from pea-size to smaller and up again and smaller, and on and on. My doctor (who is just a normal, non-natural one because we don't have those in my area and I could never afford it if we did.) says that where I've had so many sinus infections, my lymph node has stretched and stretched and it may never go back to it normal, non-feelable size. He compared it to tonsils of people who have throat infections and how the tonsils are permenantly enlarged many times after lots of "stretching". At first, I was very worried about this little knot, but God has given me peace since my last dr. appt. Anyone have a similar experience??
Also, does anyone know of a natural way to get rid of breast fibroids other than Vitamin E?
One last thing: HOW do you get the disgusting taste and smell of raw garlic out of your mouth??? I have brushed my tongue and swished in peroxide to no avail. Help!

Thanks!

All three of us are currently suffering cold symptoms. I drink what my dad has dubbed a "hot taddie" or "toddie", not sure how he would spell that. It is just hot water, honey, lemon, and apple cider vinegar. No measurements. He said he puts more or less of the vinegar depending on how sick he is and the lemon and honey to taste. He has been making these for me since I was a kid. It is soothing.

I am using the Vick's baby rub as well. I use it right on my nose, it is the only way I can sleep. I don't know what is in the adult version of the rub as I don't have any. The only thing I really don't like about the baby rub is the added scent they put in it. But, it does smell good and it really helps.

carolinachic - Yeah, sticking with the garlic and other stuff is definently much better than a visit to the doc or OTC meds.  I thought the sage worked well to dry his nose up.  I propped the head of his bed up and I think that helped so far.  Poor little guy is so exhausted.  I need to make more GOOT too.  Maybe that's part of the problem, my GOOT is two weeks old now.  If he has a fever again tomorrow I may try another enema.  DH thought it seemed to bring his fever down a couple degrees.  All this info is so helpful!  If he starts coughing I'll make up some of your garlic honey syrup.  Thanks again.   Grin

Thanks  Smiley  I don't have any eucalyptus oil, but I plugged in the vaporizer and put Vick's in it, so his room smells really nice!  DH didn't think I should put any Vick's on his pillow b/c it has other stuff in it besides the eucalyptus oil.

abbilynn

The petroleum jelly in the Vick's always stains stuff for me - so I put a glob of it on a tissue or old rag and lay it over the head of the child's bed if they are either old enough to leave it alone OR young enough not to be able to get to it (Or trained to just leave it be) so it doesn't get grease stains on everything.  It's strong enough to get their sleeping area 'vaporized'.

I used to get sinusitus all the time - at least 3-4 times a year.  I haven't had a case in months.  I've been taking SuperDads, CLO and treating for yeast since April.  I believe that these things have contributed to my overall health and would recommend them to anyone who has chronic illness of any kind.

I read somewhere that baking soda works and I also heard that rubbing your hand on stainless steel works for removing the smell from your hands.  Maybe you could lick a clean spoon Huh

Thanks for the reply. I actually ordered some YA and the TT that compliments it, so it is due to come to me any day now. I know this is a bit off topic, but is the "die-off" symptoms of the yeast too terrible to take them and work? I have a full time job for the time being, as I have no babies yet and I just wondered what to expect from the die-off.

Until then, does anyone else have any suggestions on killing this sinus goop for right now? This morning, my nose is full of mucus and running again. Mucus is more thick and yucky than even last night! Garlic didn't help?  Huh I'm overall, more stuffy and clogged today than yesterday. I even made goot last night and rubbed it on my feet. I also put it inside my nostrils as well as cayenne pepper.
A question on the raw garlic. I don't take the honey because I think it would just be more yucky, so I mince the 3 cloved and mix into to my supper, whatever it is. Last night, it was black-eyed peas and they were not steaming hot, just warm. Would that have killed the garlic? It sure TASTED ALIVE!  Cheesy Also, I find it easier to eat all 3 at once rather than doing 1 clove three times a day. Would this make a difference?
I'm trying so hard to fight this w/o antibiotics. I go back to work tomorrow. Please offer any suggestions that work for you. I am desperate. I'm ready to eat a gallon of goot! Wink

I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. I know that you want something to help immediately, but i'm becoming a huge believer of the "ultra 3 immune" from beeyoutiful.com. We were on our way to the cabin for the wknd. and i could feel myself coming down with the flu. Achy, sore throat etc. I started inhaling the ultra 3 immune and by the next morning felt fine. Unfortunatly after a whole wknd of poor sleep and even worse food, candy and stuff, i finally came down with it, but, 24 hrs later the worst is past. It's the same flu that had my dh and a friend sick for a week. I didn't have the ultra 3 immune when dh was sick but i want to keep it on hand. One other thing, i would get myself some oregano oil and put it in some oj and drink it. Just a couple drops, it's pretty nasty.

I like to chew a bit of cinnamon stick after I take raw garlic, my boys love this also.
(Cinnamon Verum - the kind that has a whole bunch of thin layers of bark is what I use)

I would start taking CLO as soon as you can get some.  It will boost your immune system and help you beat this.  If you can get some, try breathing eucalyptus on a cloth.  I dab some on a washcloth and take it to bed with me.  I snuggle in my pillow and put the cloth over my nose and mouth comfortably and breath it all night.  You can do this during the day too.

What I have found is that most of these remedies work well if you catch the illness early.  If the symptoms are full blown, then it may take 2-3 times longer for the stuff to work.  I would keep up everything you are doing.  Hit it hard.  Take hot baths with ginger, drink ginger tea, steamy showers, eucalyptus baths (you can mix this with the ginger bath).  You might try an onion poultice for your sinuses.  The last infection I had, I stood over a sink full of green onions for two hours and I felt almost well.

Thanks all, for tips. I took a bath in Real Salt hot water and ginger. I THOUGHT I was feeling better until I lied down. As I was drifting off to sleep, I noticed aching on the left side of my head/face. Its like a head ace- but its over my left eye lid, my left cheek, my left ear, my left temple (lots of pressure in my temple), my left jaw, even the left side of my neck. I couldn't sleep for the pain. I'm up drinking cayenne tea. I'm very discouraged and don't know if I can make it to work tomorrow. This was day 2 of my 3 raw garlic cloves. When will it get better?  Cry
Has anyone ever had a sinus infection on ONE side of your head? Is this normal? Prayers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, it is possible. In an earlier post you said that you were taking all 3 cloves of garlic at the same time 1x per day. This is not a good idea. You are giving the "beasties" the chance to recover & resurge & keep making you sick. Most medicine will work better in smaller, more frequent doses than infrequent, large doses. Since you have chronic sinus problems that keeps going into bronchitis I would suggest Oreganol by North American Herb & Spice. It's expensive but very effective & Drs. visits cost more. Here is what I posted on the bronchitis thread:

My DH has gotten bronchitis &/or walking pneumonia every year for over 20yrs Sad & the best treatment by far that we have found is Super Strength Oreganol from North American Herb & Spice.Grin We used it for the first time earlier this year when my DH had gotten so bad that you could hear the fluid in his lungs every time he coughed & he could barely breath. Sad Sad (I know it should have been treated earlier but he was being stubborn about it) We were so impressed with how well it worked that we have used it for every chest cold that anyone in the family has gotten since; & it has worked every time.Grin Even DH is impressed by how well it works.Grin Grin This is ess. oregano oil mixed w/olive oil. It comes in capsules & liquid. There are other brands of oregano that are cheaper but oregano is frequently miss identified &/or sub. w/cheaper oils that can be toxic. NAH&S oregano isn't toxic & has the medical research to back it up. The web site is: www.p-73.com. Check out books by Dr. Cass Ingram to find out more ways to use oreganol. The other thing to realize w/bronchitis & sinus infections is that they frequently are NOT bacteria but instead are fungus infections & antibiotics will not clear them up. The Mayo clinic on 9/9/99 stated that most chronic sinus infections are fungal not bacterial. Oreganal is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, & anti-viral so it will get to the root whatever is causing it.Grin Just so you know, because the oil is taken under the tongue & absorbed through the mouth into the bloodsteam less is needed so it costs less to use than the caps but the oil is STRONG so you may have trouble getting it down a child & may have to use the caps. You may also be able to cut it w/more olive oil or add it to GOOT & put it on the feet & chest. The other thing to know is that it seems to get rid of the goop from the lungs through the kidneys & bowels so give lots of fluids & expect extra bathroom trips.Shocked Hope this helps.

Here are two posts from another thread that are two ways to help clean out your sinuses. You could even do the first one while at work if needed although it sounds awful to listen to.

I don't know if this will help but it might be worth a try. The idea is to snuff salt water up the nose to clean out the sinuses & reduce any possible swelling. The Eustachian tubes are connected to the back of the sinuses-that's where the fluid she is feeling is. If the sinuses are clogged w/goop or swollen the Eustachian tubes can't drain. Try mixing 1/4 teas sea w/1 cup warm water. Pour some into the palm of the hand, plug one nostril & snuff the salt water up the other nostril into the sinuses. Repeat. When you work your way through the gook in the sinuses the salt water ends up in the back of your throat & you spit it out. Repeat on each side several times. She will gag & it is not a pleasent treatment but it works to clear the sinuses. Maybe this will help, I hope it does.

Okay, this method is not for the faint of heart -- but for those of you who suffer with the effects of clogged sinuses and inflamed tissues, (in other words the desperate ones) it won't sound too outlandish.

Use the salt water -- I would use distilled water. You can warm it and add some garlic tea to it. Put a little bit of coconut or olive oil (1/4 tsp maybe) in the mix to soothe the passages. If you want, a drop or two of eucalyptus essential oil, peppermint, or whatever stuff makes your sinuses open BUT only a drop or two to a 1/2 or 1 cup of water.

Then, take the phone off of the hook, get dad to watch the kids and go to the bedroom.

On a small table next to the bed where you can reach it easily place your cup of  warm water, an eye dropper and a LOT of tissues.

Lay down on the bed on your BACK. Move your head to the edge of the bed so that your head is no longer supported by the mattress. Your chin should be pointing up towards the ceiling and the top of your head should be towards the floor.

Breathe through your MOUTH. While you are doing this, use the eye dropper and fill your sinus passage with the water. You may even use one of those medicine syringes for kids to do this.

This will feel like you've got very full sinuses. Don't snort. DON'T SIT UP or tilt your head. Keep it hanging off the bed. You won't drown. Just keep breathing through your mouth and just hang there for as long as you can.

When you're ready, get the tissues (paper towels), cover your mouth and nose and turn over to your belly. Cough and blow all that gunk out of there. It will probably loosen up that inner ear as well.

Chewing on parsley is supposed to get rid of the garlic taste & smell on your breath.

If you want a good, easy to use, herb book, get 10 Essential Herbs by Lalitha Thomas. It's a very good $15 investment in health. HTH Blessings ~herbalmom

carolinachic - Well, we kicked the fever finally!  He had a fever of 103-104 from about 2pm Monday, all through the night until about 6am Tues. morning.  I gave him a garlic enema but it didn't work much.  I probably didn't do it right.  Anyway, now his nose is dripping constantly and the sage isn't working.  I'm making new GOOT today so I can keep using that.  His snot is clear though.  Now he also has a very wet, phlemmy cough so I'm going to make up your cough syrup.  But I was wondering how often can I give it to him and how much at a time?  Also, does simmering the garlic head destroy the good stuff in it?  And do I  need to cut up the garlic first before simmering it?  I'm glad we got rid of the fever since it lasted almost three days, but he's still so miserable.  Thanks for the help!  Grin

Hi abbilynn~ Crush the garlic cloves, bring to boil, simmer covered for twenty minutes. Then add lemon juice and honey and simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes. Let it cool and then strain. You can give him 1 tlbs. three or four times a day. Or like you would cough syrup. Hope he gets to feeling better soon. Smiley

Faucet-Nose Stopper

Sage leaf is a wonderful faucet-nose stopper. I mix 1/4 teaspoon of powdered Sage leaf with a bit of honey and give it to my toddler with excellent results. Usually 2 or 3 times a day keeps him 24 hours without a green, gloppy nose, during a cold or bug.

Thank you for your site! I plan to order very soon. I'm still in the process of experimenting with what works well with our family. Sage leaf, by far, has won hands down so far :-)

There's another one, too, for coughing...I have tried this and was pleased...(with the results, not the taste).   Tongue

Cough No More
by Vlad

May 2005

A few days ago, I woke up at 3 AM coughing repeatedly. Something had irritated my throat the previous day and was progressively getting worse. I made my way to the kitchen and brewed some Licorice and Sage tea (equal parts). I didn't even bother sweetening it with honey, and just sipped a cup of the not so tasty brew. Within a few minutes, all the coughing had ceased and I was out like a log.

I have been trying the sage and it worked the first couple times but didn't work yesterday.  I may try again when he wakes up from his nap.  His nose is draining pretty bad.  The cough syrup carolinachic makes worked really good though.  I think he's only coughed about four times since I gave it to him a couple hours ago.  Smiley

Thanks for the suggestions, herbalmom. I just realized this is the "Children's Health" thread! Oooops!  Embarrassed
I called in sick today because the pressure and aches were just too much. I slept late and for now, I still have a stopped up head. Not really sure if I'm better, but can't really tell that I am worse either. My nose is still runny and stuffy, but I resorted to spraying it with prescription Rhinocort late last night and this afternoon. So I don't know if that has helped or not. I am convinced that this is not a bacterial infection- as it doesn't respond to antibiotics. I am hoping to get some ear candles soon and cleaning out my head that way. I will also check out the oreganol and the collodial silver. Does anyone know a good, reasonable brand of collodial silver online? I'm guessing that a little goes a long way.

Okay, since we have a bunch of hackers around here lately, I came across this on the web somewhere!? Decided to try it, and I was impressed with the results--no more hacking!

I call it Kickin' Cough Syrup (for a reason):
1/4 tsp. cayenne
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1 T. honey
1 T. apple cider vinegar
2 T. water

Mix and take by the teaspoon.

I mixed this up and put it right into a honey bear squeeze bottle. I probably used twice the honey, but it really does the trick.

Checking in again to say that I am *finally* feeling a bit better! Yay!  Grin
I don't know if it was the Rhinocort nose spray or all the garlic or both? I tried what herbalmom said and divded my garlic into two doses rather than one. I just can't stomach it for breakfast, but I thought that two smaller doses would be better than one large one? Today was day 3 of the garlic treatment. My head fills like it is "deflating" very slowly and I don't seem to have as much nasal congestion. So Praise the Lord and thanks to everyone for their tips and prayers.  I am off to order some collodial silver, but have one question. Do you all take this only when you are fighting an infection or sinusitis, or do you take it daily to ward it off? Thanks!

I call it Kickin' Cough Syrup (for a reason):
1/4 tsp. cayenne
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1 T. honey
1 T. apple cider vinegar
2 T. water

Mix and take by the teaspoon.

I mixed this up and put it right into a honey bear squeeze bottle. I probably used twice the honey, but it really does the trick.

My husband had a horrible cough for the past week and we ran into a friend of ours who told us to mix 1/2 t. salt in with 1 cup of warm water.  Put it into a bowl and snort it up your nose into your sinus cavity and do it enough so it comes out your mouth.  This will prevent yourself from getting colds and flus because salt with kill the virus.  All colds and flus originate through the mouth or nose.  I felt like I was coming down with a cold the past few days but snorted salt water every day and have not gotten it.  My friend said he never gets colds or flu's.  Try it!

this sounds like my hubby's remedy.  he uses Saline solution and snorts it up both nostrils several times a day.  he used to be prone to sinus infection, and this has prevented many.  the cold is gone in 2 or 3 days.  he also takes probiotics and drinks perfect food  Tongue  every day.  he almost never gets sick.

My kids can take more spice than the average American kid, but they still can't or won't eat food as hot as hubby and me.  How "hot" is this medcine?
