She peeled it, I think, but it could burn the skin so I'd try it with the skin on first if there is any concern.  Bruising it usually causes the skin to come off, though...Maybe wrap it in a small piece of paper towel or tissue or lay a piece of gauze in the ear first.

Two drops of GSE in one ounce of filtered water makes a very good remedy for ear infections.  I soak a small piece of cotton ball  in the solution and gently place it in the ear for about 20 minutes three or four times a day.  Nothing to clog up the ear and it works very fast.

Taking a drop of GSE in some juice several times a day is also helpful.

GSE worked great for our dd.  I would also recommend to give her some immune booster.

when our dd got the ear infection, it was mostly caused by drinking  milk laying down on the bed.  I did not know I wasn't supposed to let her do that, then.  With a first child, you will learn alot.

Hi,

my left ear is very stuffy/clogged.  I had been having some sinus issues last week or week before, and over the weekend, my head/ear got really stuffy, either because of some dry air or some higher elevation or both.  But, after we left the higher elevation, the ear stayed stuffy/clogged.  It's been like this for 4 days now.  It's not really painful, and my nose is not stuffy, but it is a little tender to the touch and I can't hear out of it at all.  What can I do to clear out this ear??  Please help!

**Scratch that, it is a little painful at times.  Also, I do not have a fever, if that makes a difference.

**To clarify some more....I am able to blow my nose, and I can breathe through both nostrils just fine, so it's not stuffy in that sense...but there is clear stuff in there that I can blow out, and I feel it in my ear when I blow, but my ear remains very, very stuffy & clogged.  I'm pretty sure it's fluid, and not ear wax.

Can anyone offer any help/ideas at all?

There's so much info about ear aches & ear infections, and even about ear wax...but I can't find much about plain ol' fluid stuck/trapped in the ear, and how to clear/drain it.

I've tried chewing gum all day, tried yawning, tried blowing my nose, tried not blowing my nose, tried massaging...even tried some olive oil this morning, but nothing has worked.

I'll even be being willing to try something OTC if will clear out my ear!

My dh was out packing the lawn and while going around a tree, a twig jammed into his left ear. He had a lot of pain at first. A little bit later he kept getting blood out with q tips. Now he says the sounds are amplified and yet it feels like his ear needs to pop. Is it ok to put peroxide in or wouldn't you put anything in at this point? Any other ideas? Did his eardrum burst? The blood was bright red. Thanks, ya'll

Do not put anything in the ear if you suspect rupture.  It sounds very likely to me.

You may rub ointments on the outside of the ear, especially on the bony part behind the ear.  You may also use warm or cool compresses for pain, just nothing in the ear canal.  Of course, supplements by mouth are fine, and are useful for healing tissue, fighting infection and controlling inflammation.

If there is any chance that there is debris in the ear (wood fragments, dirt, etc) then it would be wise to have it looked at.

...The olive oil/garlic is great and I add mullein to mine.  Mullein stops the pain while the garlic heals the infection.

1 bulb garlic chopped
1 oz mullein flowers
1 pint olive oil

All in pint sized jar, cover, place in sunlight one week, strain in a clean jar, store in fridge...will keep 2 years.  warm as needed and place 3-7 drops in the ear.  This is the slow way.

Fast way...put all in pan and heat over VERY low heat about 30 min., strain, cool, and store...
Thanks, rootdoctor!  Smiley

I made 1/2 batch today...1/2 pint of olive oil, 5 good sized cloves of chopped garlic, a heaping T of mullein and about 2 t. of white willow bark (also for pain).  I kept it on very low for about 40 minutes over a flame tamer.  Off to strain!

Has anyone had their ears clogged up by using oils to get rid of ear infections??
I've had that happen to me recently. At least I think that might have been part of the problem. I had an earache so I put in a couple drops of garlic oil and it relieved the pain for a couple hours. When it came back I put in more oil, but it seemed to get worse almost immediately. I kept trying other things mentioned here in this thread including more garlic oil, but it just kept getting worse. I really didn't want to do antibiotics because I had a wk old baby and was breastfeeding, but by that evening I was so desperate for some relief (even with extra strength Tylenol) that we ended up going to ER. I don't have much experience with ear infections, so maybe I was doing something wrong.?? HTH

I know how you feel shiningstar,  i to went to see the doc after 7 day of extream pain.

So I was wondering is it possible to treat a bacterial ear infection without antibiotics?

I tried everything garlic, onion, silver water, mullien, calendula, plantain, camomile, homiopathic ear drops, herbal ear drops, some stuff on curezone, peroxide, apple cider vinigar, I even rinsed my ear out with probiotic and water, after puting anything in or on my ear I had this sharp poking, throbing feeling in my ear.
The pain started going into neck and jaw.
The only thing that made it feel better for a while was Tylenol and Advil, but after that wore off the pain was back.
And now I'm on antibiotics Embarrassed

So is there a time when you need antibiotics or was I useing the wrong things?

What would have been done in the old days when there were no antibiotics?

In time would it go away?

Have you ever tried taking cayenne or ginger?  I'm assuming you are congested, no?  When I get congested a dose of cayenne opens me right up, (the herbal grade is better & hotter).  This is just my initial thought if the garlic and other remedies aren't working for you.

What I do when I'm congested is take about 1/4 tsp and mix it into a very small amount of water or juice.  Mix and gulp it down.

My thinking in this is that if you can open up your nasal passages they would drain and you'd not have the pain or pressure.  Also, you'll want to avoid sugar and milk products till everything clears up.  That and being VERY persistent with garlic oil, I think it would knock it out.

If you know all of this, I'm sorry to be redundant...hope you find relief soon!

That and being VERY persistent with garlic oil, I think it would knock it out.

Thanks for your reply, and yes cayenne works realy well.

I have been eating 20-30 cloves of garlic a day (stinky Tongue) and 1 antibiotic a day instead of three antibiotics a day. Things are really starting to clear up.
And the pain is gone Grin. I still can't hear like befor yet but I'm getting lots yellow pus out. Hopfully thats a good sign.

Just one more question how would I draw the pus or fluid out of my ear?
I was wondering if it would be unsafe to rinse it out with sea salt water?

Sorry about all the questions but I'v never delt with an ear infection befor.

Hey there motherof3,
Glad to hear you're feeling better with the ear infection. I had LOTS of them as a kid and know they can be terribly painful.

As far as getting the pus out, you can gently irrigate the ear if you don't suspect a ruptured ear drum. At our house, we actually use a Water Pik, put it on the lowest setting, and fire away. It is very effective, and I won't go into detail about all the crud that we've washed out of ears here.  Tongue I would say to use a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution or better yet, add some colloidal silver into the water and that would really knock out any bacterial infection in there.

If you don't have a water pik, you can probably use a very large, clean syringe, but it may be difficult to control the water pressure going into the ears. We get them from our local farm store. Cheap.  Grin

We always use a bulb syringe to clean out ears...the 'snot sucker outers' you use in babies noses.  Just fill with warm, not hot, peroxide water and gently squeeze while tilting your head for it to drain.  I had constant ear infections as a child but only two as an adult and that's what I grew up doing.  Do use caution (i.e. don't do it!) if you think it's ruptured!

I'm not sure if my ear drum is ruptured the doc didn't take a good look in my ear he just said the brum lookes red. I'v tried rinsing my ear but nothing came out it seems like the fluid just gets stuck in there. The only time somthing come out is at night, its like crusty yellow stuff on my ear and pillow.
I still can't hear out of that ear but eating 20-30 garlic cloves is working really well. THANKS A BUNCH Grin

MO3,

Yup, this sounds like a ruptured drum.  And once it's ruputered it would look red to the doc (although he'd be able to tell it's ruptured).  I ruptured my ear drum as an adult and it is NO fun!  I had blood and pus (but mostly pus) draining from it for a week.  I could not hear from that ear (until the drum healed) for two weeks.  So expect it to take a few weeks from when it ruptured for you to be able to hear again.  I used small amounts of cotton and just put a "plug" in my ear, if you will, to catch the yucky pus.  That way it wouldn't drain all over my pillow, etc.  It also helps you to see what is coming out and how much.  I think I drained for about 3 days if I remember right.  Maybe a little more after that but not enough to need the cotton in my ear.  I did take antibiotics but at this stage your ear will heal on it's own without the abx's because the infection is coming out (the pus).  So personally, I wouldn't even bother with the abx's.  In the old days they used to just let the drum pop on it's own and the infection would heal.  Then they went through a period where they gave everyone with an ear infection abx's and now they are going back to letting the infection go away on it's own.  So, things are circular.  The garlic should do all you need it to do without the damage an abx will do internally.

Is lots of goop coming out of an ear a sure sign that it's ruptured? My 12 month old has an ear ache and three days ago lots of thick goo started coming out. I stopped putting garlic oil in because I was concerned it had ruptured. I'm just giving her garlic juice in apple juice. She is getting worst with a temp and very fussy. Is there anything else that can be done? None of my other kids ever had discharge with an earache.

Signs and symptoms of a ruptured eardrum may include:

Sharp, sudden ear pain
Clear, pus-filled or bloody drainage from your ear
Hearing loss
Ringing in your ear (tinnitus)
Spinning sensation (vertigo) that usually goes away quickly
Nausea or vomiting

I had all the above symptoms plus fever, cold flu like symptoms and I was very very congested.
My ear pain never went away untill I took tylenol or advil, at times it hurt so bad I felt like screaming.

To me it sounds like it is ruptured.Maybe get it looked at by the doc that way you will know for sure if it is ruptured.
I think lots of garlic is good. Puting just a bit of cayenne on the tongue and sucking on it took the preasure and flem away. But I don't know if I would do that with a baby.

Since my first pregnacny (5 years ago) I'v had this itchy ear canal and I always wondered what it was. Turns out it's eczema and I think thats what caused this ear infection.
Now with my ear starting to heal the itch came back and the infection started coming back too Cry
And I guess they say if you have eczema somwhere else on your body that it's very likely that it's eczema making your ear so itchy.
Well I'v had this rash on my finger for a long time too and I never knew what it was.
Heres how I'm treating it, mix a few drops of Oregano oil with 1-2 tbsp olive oil and put it in the the ear making sure to get it on the walls of my ear canal, and puting it on my finger. My ear feels a whole lot better and my hearing is slowly coming back Grin.

I thought this might help someone. Grin

My 7yo daughter is prone to ear infections.  I am usually able to heal it with garlic oil.  One bad infection was healed when my doctor(holistic) prescribed bee propolis tablets.  Now, she's got another ear infection that the propolis doesn't seem to be affecting.  I've been giving her (fresh) minced garlic in honey twice a day and been putting garlic oil in her ear.  I just took her to get it checked and the inner ear is still infected.  I picked up some colloidal silver and just gave her a dose.  I'm not sure how this works, but saw it recommended here and thought it's worth a try.

Is there something else I should be doing?  Does it just take a long time to work?  She's had an infection for about 10 days.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Amy,
We've had LOTS of ear infections at our house. Sometimes, the olive oil and minced garlic just did not work. Then I found Nutribiotic's Ear Drops. I LOVE these and they have knocked out many, many ear infections for us. I don't know--we're just prone to ear infections?? Anyway, one little bottle has lasted us over two years, and I just reordered a new bottle last week. Great even for swimmer's ear. They have GSE and Tea Tree oil in them.

Here they are:

I'm ordering the Nutribiotic ear drops, but in the mean time I've tried garlic oil and breast milk in the ear and continuing to give garlic orally.  I've also used Eucalyptus oil externally by the ear and down the neck.  I'm getting pretty concerned however, because the lymph note on her neck is really big!  Maybe using the Eucalyptus oil and rubbing from the ear down the neck has moved some of the bacteria down to the lymph where it is now stuck?  I'm just concerned because it seems to be getting worse.  All together, she's got both ears infected (swollen ear canal and ear drum), swollen lymph nodes (huge one on left side of neck), right eye keeps gumming up, and light cough (probably from drainage).  I found my Herbal Antibiotics book, so I'll be starting their suggestions today.  I really don't want to put her on antibiotics, but is there a point where you say...maybe that's what she needs?  I really believe that God's creation (garlic, herbs, etc.) are effective to heal us and we don't need antibiotics, but I'm not seeing it yet in this case.  Maybe I'm not being aggressive enough with what I'm using?  I know there are people who NEVER use antibiotics...how do they manage it?

Thanks,
Amy
