Pneumonia [Chronic or Acute]: Cures & Pain Relief
« on: November 04, 2006, 07:49:50 AM » by ILoveGodsWisdom
Dear friends,

Does anyone have any experience with pneumonia?  A dear elderly male friend of ours is stuggling with pneumonia on and off continually.

I was thinking that adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil & tea tree oil to a bowl of boiling water and covering head with a towel and enhaling would help kill some of the bacteria in his lungs that causes pneumonia?

I guess also taking raw garlic, (maybe aged in honey) would help improve his God-given immune system too.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this topic?  ...or know if it is specifically covered somewhere else, I did a search and couldn't find anything very specific.

The herb lobelia would loosen all the junk in his lungs and help him expel it.

I would definitely do the honey and garlic.

A dear elderly male friend of ours is stuggling with pneumonia on and off continually.

The fact that he is elderly makes me think of aspiration.
What could be happening is water/food going down the wrong tube (aspiration).....and he doesn't know it.
When this water and food stays in the lungs it often causes pneumonia.

Has he ever had a stroke? Nerve damage could cause him not to react to the aspiration

I would ask for a Modified Barium Swallowing test. This is a type of x--ray (using radiographic rays I believe).
But, it will let you know if that is the cause of recurring pneumonia.

One more thing: The lighter the liquid (i.e. water) the easier it is to go down the wrong tube.  So, Kefir wouldn't likely be the culprit....more of just pure liquids.

OK, I need everyone's help here. My family has just had the flu this past week/weekend. There are alot of people around us getting pneumonia from the everlasting cough from it. I have 2 adults and 5 kids that are still coughing in the house and I need to know how to keep it from turning into pneumonia. We have a field trip scheduled for Friday, I would really like us to be better by then! Thanks!

My 14 year old came down with this on Saturday.....he has had pneumonia before, is a very stoic non-complaining kid who lets things go too far before asking for something. That being said, he came home Sat. after working all day with Dad complaining his chest was hurting, he was having trouble standing up, and could he just go to bed?
Sunday morning...102 fever, chest hurt, unproductive coughing....he was in bed or on the couch all day, no food just Vitamin Water , mucinex, Oil of Oregano capsules ( 2 three times per day ) plus I gave him fresh chopped garlic ( about 1 tsp) in the morning and another ( with some fresh chopped ginger) in the afternoon.....Monday morning no fever, very productive cough, ate breakfast...laid low all day...lots of Vitamin Water and the mucinex/oil of oregano. Today he is up and around, no fever, nice cough, eating, says he ' feels great.'

My SIL, her hubby and all four of her kids had pneumonia last week, sigh and she is preggo with number 5.  Cry Anyway, she said they all got relief from onion and garlic packs on their chest. Simmer a good amount of sliced onion in a pan, barely covered with water. Pour on an old towel add some fresh garlic and apply to chest. Keep a heating pad or hot water bottle to keep it warm. She said she couldn't believe the relief it brought. That is what I would start out with.

Wonderful!  That sounds about how we got rid of dh's pneumonia last year.  He said lots of ginger tea helped soothe his throat too.  I made homemade chicken noodle soup with tons of garlic in it as well.

I just recently heard that if you make a strong tea using grapefruit skin and drink it piping hot, it will get rid of pneumonia.  I've not tried this, as I've never had to deal with pneumonia.  The lady said to boil the grapefruit skin in water.  You can either drink it straight away or boil it down a bit (?) and freeze it in ice cube trays to make into a tea later.

Grapefruit (or any citrus) contains ess oil in the skin that contains D'limonine (sp?) which is a potent antifungal & antibacterial. (I have posted on other threads about pneumonia often being a fungal infection or a baterial/fungal combination) Also when they make Grapefruit Seed Extract from what I understand they use peels as well. Also the white part under the peel is VERY high in bioflavenoids (sp?) that make Vit C more powerful & help strengthen the body. So basically tea made from any citrus skin would be antibacterial, antifungal, & high in bioflavenoids. I don't know that it would be strong enough by itself for full blown pneumonia but it is intriguing. Blessings ~herbalmom

If you enter pneumonia into the search, quite a bit comes up. The threads that probably have the most info are the following:

Bee propolis extract is also great for pneumonia or any other respiratory illness.  Incredible stuff.

My MIL's home remedy for illness is boiled orange peels, the roots of green onions and fresh ginger root, made into a tea.  This is about the nastiest thing I've ever tasted, but it's a recipe passed down from her mother in Korea.  Wink

What are the symptoms of pneumonia?

Does each kind of pneumonia have different symptoms?

I am mostly only familiar with the kind of pneumonia that bed ridden people get from not moving about enough.

So 2 years ago my then 6 yr old was diagnosed with walking pneumonia and we were told that the horrible cough/cold she always gets in winter was probably just this.
I really don't want to put her on antibiotics again as that never really seemed to help her anyway.

Is there something I can add to her humidifier that would help but not harm the baby or her 6yr old sister either? She is now 8 yrs of age.

I've been told to add hydrogen peroxide to the water as this is something that is recommended for RSV babies but what else would help clear up the constant coughing?
