Do you think that everyone could benefit by taking a daily probiotic supplement?   I would love to hear some opinions and/or experiences on this subject.

Thanking you,

I hesitate to say 'everyone' and 'everyday'.  Also, the quality of probiotics varies a lot, as does the cost.

I think people who have digestive issues can benefit from taking a good probiotic daily...although there are some serious gut issues which can counteract the probiotics and render them useless.  Though I don't have any experience with long term digestion issues, I thought that I had read that when treating allergies/candida, etc. that the goal is not to be on probiotics for life, but to heal the gut and the body, so it will begin taking over the production of digestive enzymes/probiotics by itself.

Cultured foods also contain probiotics, so many families may opt to include things like kefir, kombucha etc. into their diet instead of, or in addition to commercial probiotics.  I think I'd start with evaluating your family's digestive health and trying to pinpoint any underlying issues (allergies, yeast, gall bladder etc.), then research from that standpoint.

I do think probiotics should be in the family medicine chest, as they are wonderful for treating upset tummies and such.

Just my opinions! Smiley

I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion hi_itsgwen.  I really value them all.

I had some digestive issues recently and found that the probiotic recommended to me was helpful....I just haven't decided if I should always take it or only when my problem flares up again.  You make some interesting points.

Thanks!
