Fears:

Not really afraid of much but lately number one has been:
1.  Yellowjackets.  I love all kinds of bugs, will pick up spiders, let them crawl on me.  Not afraid of bees or wasps even.  But we have experienced the fact that yellowjackets attack in swarms and can sting over and over again and nest in the ground so you never know if you stepped on a nest UNTIL you get stung repeated, which is usually b/c you accidentally killed one, which a squashed yellowjacket body sends a signal to the others to come avenge the death of their comrad, seriously.  So don't kill one unless you want others to come!  I fear that we will be walking in the woods and one of the kids will get attacked by a swarm, somewhere where I don't HAVE my plantain tincture.  THEY ARE EVIL!!!!  We have them everywhere here in the woods.

2.  Coming in close second would be the fear that my MIL will become a widow one day and decide to move near us.  Just typing this makes my heart race and my blood pressure rise.  Not kidding.  It is a real fear I have b/c it will probably happen...one day...since my husband is her only child.

More people than me have MIL problems???  Wow, all my friends and acquaintances get along well with theirs and mine actually lives 12 hours away.  I honestly thought my MIL would love me because I would be such a wonderful wife to her son but  MY MIL does not like me to prefer him.  It really ticks her off.  That and I won't put her in her place, I am a southern lady.  Oh, and my Hubby will put her in her place.  Gee, if I had it all to do over again things would be different.  Lately though, the past two visits, she has been on Hubby's case and not mine.  I try to love and respect but it is hard.  That honor your parents commandment could have come with lots of commentary that explains exactly how to honor.

I just figured out my fear:  Becoming my mother or MIL, I really don't want my kids or their spouses to type something like this one day.

Something to think about...
My MIL and I do not see eye to eye about most anything, exept that her son is wonderful and my kids are the best.  She is radical, and a self proclaimed feminist. Sad  She also believes that a person should legally be allowed to die whenever they want and not have to be a burden to their family.  (she see's her parents as burdens) Now, I do not particularily want this woman to be in my house influencing my family.  BUT if the alternative is for her to die by legal choice, than someday when the time comes I will have to open my doors and welcome her in.  I am far from 'there' in my spiritual preparation, and this continues to be a struggle for me.  I am however praying that salvation comes to her first, and am preparing my children to be grounded in their faith so they can stand firm on their foundation.  Above all, she IS my husbands mother, and I am so grateful that she gave birth before she 'found herself'-because I'm enjoying her offspring! Hmm Talents well, I'm not intimidated by much so I take on just about anything that comes my way. As for unique my skill in tree climbing is admired by many Cheesy which I think with two boys this might move from unique to useful quickly!

Most people are surprised when they find out I am a hard core Geek!  I learned Greek for fun, some of my favorite topics of conversation are (in no particular order) recent supreme court decisions, epistemology, philosophy of law, and ancient Greco-Roman history.  But what really makes me a Geek is my lack of small talk ability I just don't really see the point!  Embarrassed

My most embaressing book would have to be the one we have from those guys at the "Jesus conference" about what sayings of Jesus are 'true' and such dribble.  I had to buy it for an apologetics class.

Pet peeves: I have to give a shout out to Katie Mac on this one Legalism is the top of the list.  Especially by people who have been believers long enough to know better!

My greatest fear is that my child or children will not become believers, I just can't imagine eternity without them.

hehe so do my brief and concise bullet answers convince everyone that I really am a Geek Cheesy Cheesy

2. Would surprise people: I don't like talking on the phone (except I talk to my mom just about every day), and I don't like "going out"; I am a homebody (though I'm not too good and taking care of said home).

Me too!! Im glad Im not the only quiet hermit "cant talk about the weather" type here! Pet peeves:  People chewing with their mouths open and smacking their food and also people who can't agree to disagree.

Greatest fear:  This one is really hard - I am an adrenalin junkie so I can't think of something I'm to afraid of.  I'd have to agree with healthy on this one and that is dying.  After seeing my late husband pass away from liver cancer...I am scared to death of becoming "sick" and having to go through that and/or having my children and family see me go through that.

Scariest thing? Well, once My Mom and Dad left me in the car while they popped into a store "really quick." I had kinda noticed this guy across the street, but hadn't paid much attention. So My window was rolled down about three inches and I'm turning backwards to entertain four little kids when suddenly their eyes get huge as apples and they all turned pale and were staring right past my face. I turned around and this ugly scruffy old man with watery, red eyes and a filthy, stubbly face was not three inches from mine on the other side of the window. My heart seriously stopped, I was sooo scared. The kids were just frozen. "Hey," he said in a thick, husky voice. "I need your help with something." Like, no way no how, buddy! But I managed to squeak, "No. NO. I--I--I c-c-can't help you." He smiled a mouthful of rotting yellow yuchy things that must have once been teeth. "Aw, c'mon... it's jus'.... uh....down around the corner." Now I was mad and scared. "NO! You have to leave right now. Go away, I mean it!" My voice gets high and wibbly when I'm scared. Then I flipped my ponytail against the wnidow and stared in the opposite direction until one of the little kids whispered, "okay, Bren. He left, good widdance." Let me tell, you, I am not cut out of street-corner-evangelist material! I'd either scare myself sick or scare away all the bums! LOL. It's funny now but sure wasn't then. I was only thirteen when that happened.

Okay I am a little late posting on thi sthread but here  goes anyway.

#1 Best Talent ,Probably that i can pick up any instrument and learn to play it well within a matter of weeks.
Most unique talent I can put both my legs behind my head  Smiley

#2 People would be surprised to know that the hardest thing in the world for me to do is to keep my hands of my hubby.Oh and maybe they would be surprised to know about my unique talent  Cheesy

#3Most embarrassing book .Cant even write the title here but my hubby bought it for me the beginning of it is "101 Ways To...."

#4 Pet Peeves being called an "ubersubmissive, husband worshipping ,doormat" for the sheer fact that I love and honor my hubby. It all comes down to people assuming Im judgemental when really they are judging me .It can be very frustrating.

#5 Biggest fear ,this one is going to be pretty frank .When I was 18 years old the virginity I was saving to give to my betrothed on our wedding night ,and was so gloriously proud of ,was taken by a man who is now a convicted rapist and spending ten years in prison for his crimes against me.My biggest fear is that one of my daughters would have to go through such a horrific time of pain and anguish as I did when I was younger.  Cry
But it helps me to remember to"  cast all my cares (and fears ) upon the Lord ,for he careth for me ."

I have three questions that I would like to ask everyone to be able to get to know all of you some more.

#1.  What is your best  or most unique talent.

#2.  What is the one thing most people would be surprised to know about  you.

#3.  What is your most embarrasing book in your personal library(keep it clean)  Wink

I'll resurrect this one...

#1 - I can harmonize with just about anything off the cuff.  My Mom sang alto in my ear from the moment she could hold me I think.  I don't remember a time when I didn't sing harmony.

#2 - I generally don't care for children.  Newborns are the worst for me.  But I'm getting a bit better.  I really like my own children & I don't dread newborns like I used to.  (If you don't know - we had our #10 in 2006.)

#3 - We have a small shelf of weird books - but it's pretty hard to embarrass us.  (we have 4 copies of _Holy Sex_ on the shelf to give away as needed.)  Here's a few:

_Match Wits With MENSA_
_War Department Technical Manual: Carpentry - May 6,1943_
_Little Bitty Baby Learns Hebrew_ ...its a board book

Any of you new folks wanna try HealthyInOhio's game?

1.) Best talent:  "Something out of nothing" scrap quilting or it will be, after I sew a few more and perfect my "technique".

Most unique talent: I can hang a spoon from my nose.

2.) Suprising fact: I'm 19, not 15.  Wink Actually, that I am a "messy" (people often think I'm neat!).

3.) Embarrassing book: I don't have any.  Huh

4.) Pet Peeve: People shopping when they are sick. I don't go to Wal-Mart to get a virus.

5.) Greatest fear: Anything creepy or crawly.  Tongue Can't stand any type of reptile.

Two new questions:

Where would your dream vacation take you:
In the USA?

And outside the US?

Where would your dream vacation take you:
In the USA?
Through the entire state of Alaska. (what else can I say? It's the coolest place to be!)

And outside the US? Either Prince Edward Island (I love Anne of Green Gables) or Scotland (George McDonald is one of my favorite authors. I'd love to see where his characters lived.) I can't decide.  Roll Eyes

VACATION INSIDE US:
Anywhere with my husband and NOT my kids!  Probably New York City - gasp! - what a sinful place!

VACATION OUTSIDE US:
Anywhere with my husband and NOT my kids!  Probably Europe divided into three chunks - the Literature Tour (self created) through England and Ireland; the Eating Tour (ditto) through southern Europe such as France, Italy, Greece; and then the Skiing Tour through Switzerland and Austria.

Alas, since I am either pregnant or nursing a baby, any of the above will have to wait for some years, yet!  Fun to dream, though!

#1.  Most unique talent:
a) I've always loved to act.  I used to have a book with monologues and I memorized a monologue from Breakfast at Tiffany's.  I had absolutely no idea what it meant but I thought it sounded pretty good.  (I was a teen at the time.)  If I wasn't a mom/wife, I would love to act in a community theatre type setting.
b)  I can almost always remember every word to any song I've only heard once or twice.

#2)  What you would be surprised by:
a) Well if you knew me you'd be surprised that I was a hurdler on the track team in high school.  Once I came in 3rd (out of 3).  All my other races were less impressive.  I am tall so they figured I should do hurdles.
b) After the obvious things, what probably excites me the most is my compost pile.  I am absolutely fascinated by it.  It's up on a hill above my house and I treck up there several times every day to "check on it" and feed it.  I have to fight the urge not to get out my pitchfork and turn it every day.  I am amazed at the unique items i have added to it only to have them dissapear weeks later as if by magic.  I always have a debate going on in my head about what I should give the chickens and what I should give the pile - I want to be fair.
c) I'm dyslecic (that is a cruelly spelled word!)  Grin.  I actually got therapy for it when I was in elementary school or I'm sure I'd be worse.  For years I felt dumb because of it (public school helped with that!) but as an adult I can see that I'm not dumb, I just learn differently.  I'll never be great at math, though.
#3) embarassing book:
Sometimes I feel a little embarassed by my "Encylopedia for Country Living".  I always thing my grandma would laugh if she saw that I had to have a huge book just to know how to do the basics.

#4) pet peeves:
guilt trips.

#5) Biggest fear:
Any one of my kids going to hell.
I also fear falling, or having my kids fall, into deep, dark water.  I used to have a dream over and over of walking across a bridge over a large river and joking around w/my sister and accidentally pushing her in.  For some reason that dream has stayed with me.

#6) Scariest thing:
When my husband almost died and I was pregnant with #3 and thinking that I was going to be a single mom.  I felt absolutely uncovered, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, I love games.  I haven't noticed this thread before I'm going to have to go back and read up.  But here we go..
#1 My unique talent is cake decorating.  I love to do that for family and friends.  Honestly my best is just being a homemaker!  I love to do everything around my house.  (I'm made fun of in my family circle of being a martha steward copy only because I don't take convience shortcuts)

#2 Most people are suprised to learn my age is 25 since I have a 9 y. old daughter you do the math.  (God can turn all things to blessings!)

#3 Sadly I'd say my most embarrassing are two books called Nessesity and control.  They are both fictions that I have because they were written by my Great Uncle.  From reading them I doudt he was saved (lots of cussing) And I'm not impressed with his writing but they are part of family treasures.  At least he wrote one good one called carry up my bones that is about our family history.  And he's not a popular author.

Who's next.  I like this game!

#1 acting

#2 I have an awful  regular singing voice but I can sing like a fairly talented male opera singer.  And I can do an amost flawless perfect rooster crow.

#3 Cheezy Native American romance novels. Up until recently I did not have any shameful books that that I know of. But my well meaning mother just went out and bought about 25  Native American romance books at a garage sale for me because she knows I like NA readings. She is naive  and did not realize that they were cheezy filthy romance books. I started reading one and oh my I just know my  face had to have gotten red when I came up on a dirty part in the book. It was interresting before the author ruined the book with the dirty detailed parts so enough is enough and out they must go! So now I have to figure out a way to get rid of them without her knowing. I don't want that junk in my house. OH My oh my now everyone knows! LOL.

Hmmm Vacations..

INside US:  I'm torn on this one, it would either be a horseback camping trip in Yellowstone or one of the other really big national parks.  Or an historical walking tour of Virginia and the DC area.

Outside US: Ok this one I've thought about for quite a while; a tour of Paul's missionary Journeys.  I think it would be so cool to go through the landscape and old ruins while reading Acts and thinking about how it all must have been for him and his companions!
