  Which vitamins are real/alive?
« on: December 22, 2006, 01:52:35 PM » by Gods_child
Have you ever heard of vitamins being fake? I have! They say that in the making process of most vitamins the "vitamin" in the vitamin is actually killed in the process. So maybe I'm taking vitamins and they are fake but I'm thinking that they are just not helping me. How am I to know which vitamins are REAL??? Anybody know anything about this? Maybe some known good brands that work? Thanx a bunch! God bless!

I've taken several different brands of vitamins, from wal-mart brand to Shaklee to Beeyoutiful.  I felt no different taking centrum, walmart brand, or nature made.  I saw great improvement taking Shaklee's vita-lea + iron.  They are like the honda of vitamins.  It was a good vitamin.  But since I've switched to BeeYoutiful, I'll not go back to anything else.  They really are the cadillac of vitamins.  (Husband says the Lexus, you can make your own comparison)  Cheesy

Which vitamins are you taking? It's pretty easy to tell if they are fake or not, just look at the ingredients. Please list the names and the ingredients so that we can help you figure it out.

Most vitamins are fake/synthetic. They are made in a lab by Big Pharma. Therefore they are dead. If people actually knew what they were spending their hard earned money on, they would be outraged. This includes everything from Centrum to Shaklee.

The more maketing is spent on something, generally the worse it is for you. Wink My Dad tought me something very important in life, he told me "Son, if you can't dazzle them with your brillance, dazzle them with your bull****!" Are you dazzled by the company you buy your supplements from?? Smiley

The supplement industry is not regulated by the FDA. So these companies can claim whatever they want on their lables. That's why you always see 'These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA." So you could be getting 500 mg of Vitamin D, or you could be getting 50mg. On the contrary, you could be getting 50000 IU of Vitamin A when it only says 5000. Do we really need to give our livers any more work? Smiley

This is not entirely true.   Smiley Nutritional Companies have to be very careful to follow guidelines set by the Federal Government and the FDA specifically.  They are required to put accurate supplemental facts on their products, however they are not required to break down how much of each and every quantity of the different vitamins contained in it.  Companies have to be careful not to claim that their product can prevent, diagnose, treat or cure anything that has been labeled a "disease" because by FDA definition only a drug can do that.  Therefore if they claim that their product can do any of these things it then falls under the heavy testing and regulations given prescription medications.  It is important for supplemental companies to keep their labels "honest" because if reviewed by the FDA and found to be inaccurate it can have very serious consequences.  The FDA can shut the business down for 3 months while it does a review which in many cases effectively closes the business down for good regardless of what the investigation turns up.

For me it isn't the size of the beeYoutiful pill as much as it is those rough edges, even though the size is on the larger end.  I'd much rather take 2 smaller pills, but the added spirulina is what I think helps me a lot.

I got the idea somewhere on here of honey coating hard to swallow pills.  It works will for me.  I also gag on the nasty tasting ones but the honey makes them slide down and you don't get that bad aftertaste.  That said, I've definitely had worse tasting vitamins than the SuperMom's.  I haven't had to honey coat them.

I'd like opinions on Supermom vs. Shaklee vitamins.  I've signed with Shaklee to get certain items at a discount.  I've always heard Shaklee are one of the best, but it would cost so, so much more to get Shaklee vitamins and the supplements that would be equivalent to Supermom/dad, even with the discount.  I saw one vote up above that thought Supermom were better.  Anyone else have experience with both, and have an opinion they'd care to share?  Probably couldn't afford to take Shaklee all the time, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to take for a period of time - if it were better.  Still, I don't want to spend the extra money if Supermom is best!

I've tried just a few Shaklee cleaning items, and even though they're not cheap at the beginning, I must say that they work well and are ultra-concentrated.  I wish they could just sell this stuff in stores so they didn't have to be as expensive!

I wouldn't take it... half the A and all of the E are synthetic.

I was able to heal from eczema (toxicity) with products from Simplexityhealth.com. I know someone who has visited their factory and they do not heat their supplements above 118 degees (not sure of the exact temp-whatever it is to not destroy the live enzymes)therefore, their nutritional supplements are live and effective.

AllOne is a very good comprehensive live food vitamin. It comes in powder form - no heating to form tablets, and you mix it into a little juice, or tea, then drink it down.

Any good vitamin will have a little bit of a metallic taste to it when consumed this way, but the taste is not bad at all. I stir mine into fresh juice (I love fresh juice from the juicer - it's like a treat).

Rainbow Light is another respectable brand of whole-food vitamin which is very comprehensive, though it comes in tablets. 6 tablets per day, two per meal.

vitacost.com is a site where I have found good service and some of the best prices (are we allowed to share 'where' we find good pricing here? Still learning the rules. If not, would a moderator just delete this paragraph please?)

There are quite a few brands of decent vitamins to suit budget as well as health needs.

There are also options for better pricing. Go in with friends and order a case together. We have a few dozen families who order this way together. Smiley
