Ok, so I dint take time to read this whole post, as I really dont have time at the moment! My 10 yr old son ask me to come on here and see if I can find help for him-- He started out with what I think is hives? It started on the bottom of his legs, a little on his feet, and keeps moving up his legs, its now above his knee, he also has small patches on his arms. They dont bother him to much, but once he starts iching- he cant quit-- he is also a goofball! Grin walks around with his pant legs pushed up as far as possible! Roll Eyes anyway-- any ideas on what may have caused it? We had rain the last few days, and the day it started he was outside, and looks like where he had crocs on (his feet) he dint get a rash?? we dint change our diet, or laundry soap in awhile, except that we've been eating lots of pumpkin lately-- this past week!? oh, another thing I just thot of, is that he along with my other sons was on a fungal cleanse the last 3 months-- he quit the cleanse on Sunday- he's had these hives about 2 days now--- will they go away on their own, or do I need to make all kinds of tea's, and creams? He did take acidophilas last eve~~~ thanx for your help!

Hmmm...I don't know about hives. I get hives when I'm too cold but I don't think they creep upward, kwim?  I've heard that hand foot fouth disease has symptoms like this and is commonly contracted in the fall.  It affects the areas you mentioned along with a rash inside the mouth and slight fever.  Either way, it's no fun!  Hope you'll find your answer soon!  Smiley

I would look at the pumpkin be a problem.  We have several allergic to it in this house.  Hives are always an allergic reaction so he's either eating more of something he doesn't usually have on a regular basis or he's been exposed to something new.

Benadryl cream will help take the hives away but I don't recommend it.  You can buy sulfur pellets and he can take 6 pellets every 1/2 hr to 1hr until the hives are gone.   But you do need to determine what's causing them because if it's food you need to pull it.  Also, you don't HAVE to treat hives.  The body will eventually unswell.

Look for the homeopathic sulfur pellets (like Hyland's or Boiron).  The health food store should have them, and some drug store chains carry a few homeopathic remedies.

Thanks!  Ha-ha, I thought she meant actual sulphur, not homeopathic.  Shocked  That definitely makes more sense.

My son is 11 mos. old- has been perfectly healthy since birth; no vaccines, etc.  All of a sudden this morning, he breaks out in this little welt-like bumps on his torso, and now (nighttime) some have moved to his arms, a few on his face.  I've deduced that these are hives.  He's very itchy, poor little guy, and I am worried.  I can't think of anything that could have triggered this.  There is no fever or other signs of illness.

The ONLY things that are different are:
1.  I introduced solid food (he's been solely breastfed from birth) about a week or so ago, but the only food so far has been bananas.  He's been eating about 1/2 banana at dinnertime.

2.  I (about a week ago) bought different laundry detergent-- All Free and Clear.

I suppose it's possible that these could be triggers, but then wouldn't he have gotten the hives soon after the initial exposures?

HELP!  What do I do?  It's pretty late at night here.  He is asleep now.  For most of the day he has acted "fine," scampering around like his usual self.  The itchiness seems to have started toward evening.

I'm trying to only use natural remedies with the kids, so I don't really want to try the Benadryl, but then again, I don't want this to get any worse.  (We don't have any in the house right now anyway.)

Any suggestions?
God bless you and thanks in advance,

It can take up to 72hrs for an allergic reaction to food to show itself.  Your son is VERY likely allergic to bananas.  They are a high allergen.  And, if he is allergic to bananas he likely has other food allergies.  That is rarely a stand alone allergy.  It would be very wise to get him ELISA tested.  Watch the usual offenders, dairy, gluten, eggs, nightshades, as you introduce them.  You probably noticed he was fine when he first started eating bananas.  That's because it takes time for the body to get so inflamed it starts coming out in other areas (like the skin).

To treat the hives give him homeopathic (thanks DHW - I'll be more specific now!) sulphur pellets.  They dissolve in the mouth so it doesn't matter his age.  Hyland's makes them in a 30X which is fine.  You can give him 4 sulfur pellets every 15 minutes or so until the itch goes away.  The hives will go away AFTER the itch does.  Fred Meyers sells them in the health food section as do most HFS.

There are A LOT of threads on here about food allergies.  It might be good to read through them.  And like I said, I would get him tested because it sounds like he has inherited some food allergies (which means you and hub likely have some also).

God bless,

Thanks, Patti!  I will definitely look for the sulphur pellets today.  I just took a look at him this morning.  He is sleeping now, but the hives look HORRIBLE today!!  I had no idea that bananas could be a culprit.  (I had always thought they were one of the safest foods to introduce(?).)  This is all new to me.  As far as I know, neither my husband nor myself have any allergies.  The baby is the youngest of 5 kids, and none of the others seem to have food allergies either.
O.K., no more bananas.  Do you think that it might have taken a week of exposure to the new laundry detergent in order to get a hives from this as well?

Laundry detergent *could* cause it - but it's not likely.  Not that bad.  I would pull the bananas first.  If you don't see the hives go away within 24-48hrs then it could be the detergent.  Once the hives go away you could wait a week and try another banana and see what happens.

IF your youngest has food allergies, it is VERY likely you all have some in some amount.  But, before we get the cart before the horse, see what happens when you use the sulphur pellets.  If the hives don't go away at all then then you can suspect the detergent.

Nope - bananas are a high allergen.  Just goes against what the AMA says so most people figure they're okay first.

keep us posted.

I didn't know banana's were a high allergen, but it makes sense!
Banana's were a staple part of my diet growing up, but after I had my first baby, I could NOT eat them anymore.  They made me feel so ill I had to lay down for hours until I felt better. It's too bad cuz I love 'em! If I take a bite of the banana bread I make for my family it doesn't really bother me. Must have a chemical change from being baked?  But I still stay away from them.  My oldest son is leaning that way so he doesn't eat them either.
