Now I am so glad I took a break from cleaning to check in... I would have been so disappointed if I didn't have a heads up.  Wow, I bet I have a really super productive weekend.  And, lucky me, my husband will just think I was extra ambitious today Smiley  I will be rewarded for sure Wink  So, a few other things to read and I guess I will be back on the 1st.  Happy New Years to you all.  Be safe.

We ran into some snags today... its pretty much done, but we'll try again tomorrow (early). The site has to be down for a while so that we don't loose any posts. If all goes as planned, the site should not be down much at all... we are working on it!

I don't know what changes he has planned for this upgrade, but I'm still pretty sure, he hasn't done them yet unless...like I said...the changes are invisible (or behind the scenes).

Well, the changes won't be completely invisible... but they will be mostly an upgrade in the software...

...and, no, they still aren't done! We we're hoping to get it done around New Year's, but one upgrade never got completed, and so the entire upgrade could not be finished. Not to mention, a key player had to help a friend host a New Year's party...  Undecided

In any case, when the upgrade does occur, HB will get about 20 new boards that she has been wanting for like half a year now, and it will allow us to take the next step which is an integrated wiki... for a WTM encyclopedia. Oh what fun that will be!

Oh, and after the upgrade, you will be able to use the same logins across WTM, 7xSunday, and UrbanExodus... this will mean that some of you will have multiple logins. Its not a big deal, but for those of you that want your logins merged you will have to send me an email after the upgrade. I'll make an announcement here.

Suffice it to say, if WTM is down, it should not be down for more than a couple of hours, and we'll try to bring it down in the early AM. No guarantees (obviously  Tongue), but that's our plan.

Lol... yeah that is an idea that I have toyed with. I am working on it, but the problem with chat on sites like this is that a lot of great information gets "chatted" and never recorded for the use of all. There are a couple chat systems that keep continuous logs and post them to the web every so often... I am looking into it.

The other thing that we would like to implement is a media system so that users can upload images, audio, video, pdf's, etc... the reason we want to implement it internally is so that the content can be sold... in other words, you might be able to put up a video of how to make a baby sling, and sell it for some (usually small) price per download. Audio, Video, and PDF's could be sold, and this would allow many of you to share your info and make some residual income as well... it would allow WTM to become a mini-media company!

BUT... these are not upgrades that are going to happen in the next few days... we are still cooking them up!

LOL, you missed it because there aren't any.  It is an idea that was mentioned probably last summer as a possibility in the future.  I think the idea was to expand WTM, and have more things available to those who paid for a subscription.  They said that the forums would still be free and available to all.  I don't know if they are still thinking about this or not, but it hasn't happened yet.

whew Smiley  I am glad I didn't miss that one... I just can't stand being in the dark... and I often am Grin  I am sure it is a sensible idea.  Who does pay for this site, Gabe and Rebekah?  I am sure it is costly.  But, I think I read something about paid advertising coming soon???  Anyways, thanks for explaining.

I think that we are going to attempt the upgrade this afternoon at around 3:00pm Mountain Standard Time... I guess that's 5:00pm EST

Things might go off and on for a while after that... if all goes well, the upgrades should be done some time this evening. There will probably still be some oddities. If you experience anything weird with the site (after the upgrade), please post it here or in a new thread dedicated to the anomaly.

forum was upgraded to 1.1.1 as planned, downtime was minimal. some parts of the mod are already installed, I will import the databases of 7xsunday and urbanexodus soon.

please post here if you notice anything unusual, especially vanishing forums or something. except for things that come with the update, nothing should have changed yet. try refreshing first, sometimes errors may be caused by the immediate update process.

Simple Machines is the company that makes some of the software that this site runs on. UE and 7xS run on it too... mostly you will just see references to it in the code... this will change, we're still working on "stuff" but thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I'll try to resurrect the embarrassed icon as well...
