Chest Congestion in Infants [Babies Still on the Breast or Bottle]
« on: January 23, 2007, 05:39:17 PM » by houseofboys
My 4 month old son has had chest congestion since he was 6 weeks old.  He has been on Pulmicort and saline through a nebulizer since that time.  He has never had a cold and/or fever.  I even had him tested for Cystic Fibrosis (which came back negative).  Praise God!  I know that something is wrong, but my pediatrician thinks he has small airways.  Does anyone have suggestions or a similar situation?

Did the doctor make a mention of a possible asthama?  The only thing that I could come up with is a possible allergic reaction to dust mites.  A lot of kids who are allergic to them have a "wheezing" like sound out of their chest.  You could try putting some slip covers that zip shut over your pillows, mattresses, etc.  Get a vaccuum with a hepa filter.  HTH!

Thank you for the suggestions.  I will try it.  I did go to an Asthma specialist.  He is actually the person who ordered the C.F. test to rule it out.  He did say that it's too early for allergy testing and asthma, but I can be proactive and do the dust mite control like you suggested.  Thank you.  I will post in a few weeks to let you know.  Leigh

Reflux can cause wheezing. They don't have to have a lot of spit up to have reflux. It just kind of comes up then goes back down.

My baby is miserable. What can I do? Plus, she is getting her bottom teeth. Needless to say we did not sleep well last night.
So far I have been usuing Eucolyptus oil on her chest (rubbing first with Coconut Oil), dripping some on her clothes near where she could inhale, using a cloves/lobelia tincture for her teeth, and have brought her into the shower a couple of times to try to loosen some of the congestion.
Any other suggestions. I feel bad for her...I am assuming it will eventually go away, but would liek to speed it up.
I have these things on hand:
    Wild Cherry Bark
    Immunue Booster tea
Immune booster tincture (1/2 glycerine 1/2 alcohol)
    Throat Coat tea
     Lobelia, Hyssop, and Comfrey Tea
     Eucolyptus Oil
     Garlic, Tea Tree Oil

How can I give her tea? Or should I? ANd how much tincture should I give? Should I buy a humidifier for the Eucolyptu oil?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tennille

I didn't mention her age...she is 6 months old and breastfed (I tried to change the post subject, but I guess I didn't do it right).

Elevate the head end of the bed at least an inch.   Don't over due the eucalyptus oil, some kids are allergic to it.   Keep a humidistat in your house to check the humidity, if the air is dry then definitely humidify the air.
