My first batch of kombucha finished 3 days ago and I had no problem with the scoby that you sent to me. It developed a nice healthy baby (bigger than the mother) and I have started 2 more batches. I used 3 Celestial Seasoning Peach teabags, one family size Luzianne teabag, and 1 1/2 cups of sugar. I hate the taste of alcoholic beverages (even sparkling grape juice), but I can drink this (it's not too overpowering). I left mine out on the counter after straining in airtight containers and it definitely fizzzzed. I think I like it better without the fizz myself (hmm, maybe that's why I don't like alcoholic beverages).

I would be interested in getting a scoby for making kombucha if anyone has one, or a couple to share. I've never made if before but I would like to try it. I just ordered black tea from the bulk herb store and now I need a scoby. I would be happy to pay for the shipping. Also, if anyone has Kefir grains, I would like to try making that too. I need more kefir grains. The ones I had were dumped by someone who shall remain nameless who was trying to be nice and clean up the kitchen...but he thought someone left milk out on the counter and it spoiled so he dumped it. He's looking over my shoulder right now Roll Eyes

I am new to the forum and have spent alot of time trying to figure out how to put a new post under this topic. I have only figured out how to reply. I need to do more reading to learn, but no time now. Still so much to learn Embarrassed

I am really interested in this drink. However, I live outside of the U.S. . I have a mom who is in TX who will be traveling to see me in a month. Is this "starter" something that she could keep for a month, then bring to me?

If someone is willing, I would be willing to call you (I have free long distance) and discuss the details, as well as hopefully ask a few questions about how to really cultivate the starter and keep it going.
