  A question about elevated liver
« on: February 13, 2007, 10:47:42 PM » by Mrs. Damian Garcia
Hello everyone!  My husband has a elevated liver. Each year it seems to go up a bit (the tri/and cholesterol count). I don't understand the print out that they send home so I can't explain it other than they know it goes up each year. My question is how do I help my husband to bring down his cholesterol as well as get his liver working better? Thank you so much for your advice.

In Christian love,

Mrs. Damian Garcia

My husband just had a physical last week so I had to decipher one of those printouts too. This helped me to understand what some of the numbers really meant.

His triglycerides are high, his "good" cholesterol is low, and one of his liver enzymes is high. We decided that dh eats too many carbs and drinks too much high fructose corn syrup in the form of sodas (they're free where he works  Sad ) He also frequently eats convenience/fast foods for breakfast and lunch and so has been getting a lot of transfats, soy/corn/canola oils. These are things I already knew were bad but dh wasn't convinced (I think he is now). He's been eating breakfast at home and packing a lunch more often, but he is still having a hard time giving up the sodas.

I have read about people eating a lot of oatmeal to bring down their cholesterol.   My sister has had trouble with this and when she eats more oatmeal it lowers those levels.     I think diet has a lot to do with cholesterol and if you can eat a healthy diet you can get it down without taking those harmful drugs.

That is absolutely correct. In the meantime Red Rice Yeast absorbs cholesterol better than Lipator ever could.

Which one of his enzymes is high?  I recently had a blood test, and my ALT (SGPT) came back high, as did the AST (SGOT).  From webMD, it states that ALT is released into the blood stream when the liver is damaged or diseased.  Did you follow up with dr to determine the cause of elevated levels?  I am looking for information about liver support nutrition, does anyone have anything?

I believe Niacin brings down cholesterol.  You might want to research that.
