  Beef Allergy/Intolerance
« on: April 17, 2007, 10:32:24 AM » by bensrib
Hi!  My daughter has recently (in the last 2-3 months) developed an intolerance for any type of beef.  It started with the occasional fast food burger (I know, naughty, naughty), then progressed to any beef I cook at home.  We are reading labels to avoid any and all beef.  Any advice?  Karen

I would check out the leaky gut information.  My father in law has intolerances to Pork and slightly to beef and has been diagnosed by a natropath with Leaky Gut (he also has Rhumatoid arthritis so it definatly fits for him).

At the age of seventeen I developed an allergy to pork.  At first my Mom thought it was all in my head and she would try to hide pork in food.  (We had just slaughtered a pig and had a ton of pork in the freezer)  Half-way through the meal I would start to feel bad and ask what type of meat was in the food.  Every time I was sick it was pork.  Several years later I had some allergy testing done and was indeed allergic to pork.  That month I was also diagnosed with Lyme and it was determined that I got it only two months before I started reacting to the pork.  Does she have any other symptoms?

Karen,

My guess is that she's always been allergic to beef.  It is extremely common for someone to have an allergy but the body just produces internal inflammation in reaction to it.  Once the body hits it's absolute tolerance for that item, then it starts to come out in the form of a physical allergy.  So it's likely she's had this for a very long time.

My son was allergic to dairy and eggs by 14mos. of age (looking back we figured this out).  However, it did not start to really come out in the form of hives and eczema until he was 6ish.   By the time we caught it his internal inflammation level was off the charts.  Normal is like 170 or something and his inflammatory level was over 850.

If she's fairly healthy to begin with, her body could have just tried fighting it internally for as long as she could before it finally started making her feel sick.  About the best thing I can recommend is treating for leaky gut as that is aggravated/causes food allergies.

Does anyone with a dairy/casein allergy have an allergy/intolerance for beef? I have only seen people's reccomendation since it is the same animal but I would like to hear from those who actually experience this because it sounds far fetched to me. I am on an elimination diet for my 5 month old who has severe ezcema on his face and I am totally suspect of dairy as one of his intolerances. We have organic grass fed beef that I could be eating, but I am staying away from it because my poor boy has been so miserable, but it sure would be nice to have that to eat.

5xmomma,
The only experience I have was with a friend. She was reacting to many foods including beef and dairy. I have always wondered if she might not have done well with organic, grassfed beef especially with a comprehensive enzyme summplement including betaine HCL.
She reacted to almost every sort of protein, including eggs, and really need to balance out her diet. She did fine with eggs from free ranging, fertile, soy free hens. This is why I think grassfed, organic beef would have worked. It may not have been the beef itself, but the byproducts in the meat, and the quality because it the way it was fed and raised.

I have a daughter with severe food allergies and she is allergic to ALL dairy, beef, chicken, pork, and a few other protein foods.    Sorry, I know that's not what you probably wanted to hear.

For some ideas about diet, you may want to check out the book, Unraveling the Mystery of Autism.  It contains wonderful diet recommendations AND a sample menu for casein/gluten free diet.

Well, this is my household.   Tongue  My son is soooooo allergic to dairy that he can't eat beef.  My best friend's son is also like this.  We only do all organic foods (including beef) and it doesn't matter for him.  One thing I will tell you that experience has taught me is generally it is NOT the secondary allergy that is causing the eczema.  In other words, it is likely the dairy that is causing his eczema.  If he's reacting to beef because dairy comes from beef (which is our case) it generally causes my son chest pains, difficulty breathing, aching joints, etc.  With your DS being so young it would be hard to tell if he's having secondary reactions.  A person CAN get eczema with a secondary reaction, it's just hard to tell unless you can clear up the original rash first and then watch what happens when you eat that item.  My DS is technically not allergic to beef (per his ELISA test) but he definately reacts to beef if he tries to eat it.  Almost anaphylactically because as I said he gets chest pains, etc.  So I think if he ate enough he could go fully anaphylactic.

If you can, I would encourage you to read through my DS's history on the food allergy thread.  I discuss A LOT of what we went through trying to diagnose him and the things I learned along the way.  By God's grace he IS getting better but it is a day by day challenge in feeding him.

Answering your question regarding chicken from anothe thread - yes.  If your DS is severly allergic to soy then any soy fed to the chickens would bother him.  It all depends on how bad his allergy is to it.  As is my mantra around here - get an ELISA test.   Grin   Grin  It is the only way to truly know what he's allergic to and let me tell you, some allergies will really surprise you!  My entire household is allergic to garlic of all things!  In hindsight it doesn't surprise me because I was using garlic to treat our bodies when we got sick, etc.  Asaparagus anyone?  I found out it's a high allergen for many people.  And we only ate it about twice a year.  So you might be really surprised at his allergies if you actually tested him.  The other thing is, if you do NOT vaccinate and he's got a dairy, egg or gluten allergy, you should start looking at you and your husband because those allergies are generally inherited if one hasn't had shots (our egg allergy was caused by vaccines - the dairy and gluten were inherited).

blessings,

I was going to bump up the food allergy thread but there are four of them that I counted would be worth reading!

I get horrible stomach cramping, gas and constipation from regular cow's milk and regular beef.  However, grass-fed organic beef and grass-fed organic raw milk are fine for me.  I think it is all about the soy and hormones the animals are filled with.  Sort of like eating a cancer burger with a glass of steroids.
