Well, I went to the HFS today to pick something up, and found some homeopathic cold tablets. They're Hyland's C-Plus Cold Tablets. Lady there said they're perfectly safe and work, so I'm giving them a try. I'll post here if they work.

I have a sinus problem..I had a cold and all the symptoms are gone except I can't breath out of my nose. My mouth is so dry at night that I almost choke.

So I did a Sudafed OUT OF SHEER DESPERATION now I read that was a big mistake since I don't really want to "fake the drying up of my sinuses".

Here is my question, I have a copper, silver, zinc salt water and MSM sinus flush. there really are no instructions as to the best way to use this. How do I apply? Do I spray it up there then keep my head tilted back? how long?

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, Natural, I don't have an answer for you, but I just wanted to post this:

My mom has suffered for years with chronic sinus infections. She has finally gotten a neti pot, and has had some real relief from using it. Recently, she tried a mixture of water, xylitol, celtic salt and GSE. She flushed with that 3-4 times a day and has had wonderful results!!! Just thought this might be helpful to someone here...

My family has been using Xclear (bought and homemade) which are the same ingredients listed above (Xylitol, sea salt, GSE and water) and it has worked VERY well for decongesting.  We have also been taking Pantothenic Acid for congestion.  Boy has that been keeping it away!

So, even with the Xclear, how do you apply? Do you hold you head back and let it sit there or flush (blow it out right away?)

It comes in a nasal sprayer (metered sprays) and we just use a couple of 'snorts' in each nostril when we feel congested.  I do try to sniff a lot as it starts draining back out my nose so I can get more benefit from it.  I wait as long as I can and then blow my nose.  You can use as much as needed to wash the area out.  It's not addictive or harmful.  I'm not familiar with the combo you mentioned earlier...can you put it in a water-pik to rinse or is it in a sprayer?  I've never used the water-pik method but would be interested in hearing from someone with experience and how to.

This combo is in a nasal sprayer, it just isn't clear on how long to leave the solution in the nasal area.

THanks this does help!

I glanced over these pages, but didn't see anything like this.  My mom has a sinus infection.  She has tons of pressure above and below her eyes in the sinus cavities and her teeth hurt.  She does not have any trouble breathing at all.  She can feel the gunk running down the back of her throat.  She has tried to cough it up and get it out, but she can't get it to come out.  She has tried blowing her nose, but nothing comes out either.  The is now on her second round of antibiotics, the first round didn't work.  She has tried mucinex and that didn't work.  The doctor also gave her zyrtec and my mom took that for 5 days, but it wasn't helping either.  Her doctor is so slow.  They have her scheduled for a scan on her sinuses, but that is a week away and she has already been in pain for almost a month.  She has tried steaming showers, breath in steam from boiled red cabbage, drinking hot herbal tea and breathing Eucalyptus steam. She is drinking plenty of water. She may have tried other things that I can't even think of right now.  I don't know what to tell her.  She said it is like the stuff is so think it just can't come out.  Does anyone have any ideas for such a stubborn sinus infection?

I know this pain all too well.  For me, every time I took the antibiotics, it would last longer and come back sooner.  Colloidal Silver 'snorted' and maybe even small doses of it swallowed and lots of rest are what I do now.  They last so much less time and don't come back unless I really get into something that bothers me like smoke or just run myself down.  I also put ginger powder in warm water with some lemon and stevia to lessen the pain and duration.  I would do all I could to stay off the meds the doc wants her on BUT I would use great caution...sinus infections have been know to cause brain damage and bells palsy in super sever cases.  I wouldn't get scared but I'd keep my eyes on it so it doesn't get to that point.  XClear works fairly well for prevention but when it gets really bad and the pain and lack of breathing just keep me from resting, the OTC stuff with Oxymetazoline hydrochloride allows me to breath and rest for a few days until I can knock it out.  I'm sure that's no good but sometimes there is just nothing else that can allow me to tolerate the pain.  One other thing I'd look into...enemas (garlic maybe)...they really do relieve congestion.  Are there others out there with advice???

Has she tried goldenseal?  I mean taking it internally?  I remember by 5yr old dd got a sinus infection and the dr wanted to put her on antibiotics (which I did not do), so I just gave her goldenseal 2-3 times a day in some juice.  The next day she said it didn't hurt anymore and a few days later I forgot all about it.  (must have went away since it's been a few mnths now).  Also, I was starting to get a sinus infection last year, had the pressure and pain in my sinuses, but couldn't blow out my nose, anyway, I took goldenseal 2 times that day, and the next morning when I blew out my nose, all that mucus came out. Tongue  (it was A LOT, and it was gross!  Sorry ladies!)  After that I drank it one more time and it was gone.  Maybe it would help your mom.

I don't know if I have a sinus infection, never had one that I know of, but am due any day and would love to be rid of what I have before labor!  The right side of my face hurts, and esp. in my teeth where I have a tooth that's needing re-filled.  I seem to be past the green gunk for the most part, and not a whole lot of stuff to blow out, but still can hardly breathe through my nose most of the time, except at night after I've been lying down awhile.  My problem seems to be more with swollen tissues in the nasal/sinus areas, if that's what they're called.  I can breathe fine one second, then all of a sudden it's so "stopped up" that it sounds like I have my nose pinched when I'm talking.  I've already been taking things like echinacea, garlic, vit c, and some GSE for the last week for a cold/cough, but just can't seem to shake it.  I did sleep with a garlic clove in my cheek last night, and this morning blew out some green stuff, but as the day goes on the pressure seems to build up again.  Any thoughts??  I'd love to be able to breathe clearly for labor, and after!

It sounds like sinus's to me.  The things that have worked really well for me this year are a neti pot and a bit of cayenne on a spoon covered with honey and lemon juice.  I'm not sure if you should have cayenne close to labor but there's no reason you could not use a neti pot that I'm aware of.  I do hope you feel better before your baby comes.

I suffered with sinus infections for years until I started washing my sinuses (gross I know) every time I take a shower. I just tilt my head back and let the watter spray in my nose and then blow it out.... we have a well and very low pressure. On the rare occasions that I do feel sinus pain or I'm getting stuffy, I stick a peace of garlic in my nose, for about 10 min.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Last night I tried the cold water on the face/immersing my face in a sink of cold water, to shrink the swollen passages, if that's what it is.  It did help for a few minutes to be able to breathe better, but not for long.  Maybe I'll try the garlic in the nose, or else just put a clove between my gums and cheek again.  I used to buy a tincture from trilightherbs that worked really well for colds and keeping the stuffiness away when started right away.  One of the main ingr. was red root, but I haven't found any other places that sell tinctures with the red root, or that sell red root by itself.  Not sure if it's safe for pregnancy, though...

I'm not sure if this goes here or in the ear infection thread, but here goes. I guess I have had a sinus infection for 5 or 6 mths. My doctor tried to prescribe antibiotics 3 times. I wouldn't take them the first 2 times because I am nursing. I take really good vitamins, garlic, probiotic and ultimate echinacea when needed. Now, I have fluid behind my eardrum. It is not painful, but I feel like I'm living in an aquarium, which is really annoying to say the least. I can't hear well out of that ear and I slosh when I walk!! Smiley I went ahead and took the meds. (reluctantly). The baby is 8 mths now and still nursing. Anyway, they didn't help and I am wondering if there is something I can do herbally while nursing. I have great results with my kids with garlic and olive oil for ear infections, but I don't have an infection, just fluid in the middle ear. My doc thinks it is stemming from a sinus infection, but my sinus symptoms are fairly minor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ArmyWife,

Have you considered a garlic retention enema?  You need to check and see if this is safe at any point in pregnancy (I think it is but I'm not sure) and I suppose it could send you into labor but I have had great relief with my kids and myself with this.  The How to Herb Book says if you are congested anywhere, you are likely congested in your colon and the garlic is like getting an antibiotic to where it needs to be super fast.  Please, just check it out before you do it to make sure it's safe!  It might work for anahaddy, too...just throwing it out there...

Hmm, I've never done an enema before, and don't really know who I'd ask about it, as the advice nurse at the hospital probably wouldn't know.  I have had some relief by putting garlic poultices on my cheek.  It burns, even through several layers, but it does seem to help some.  I actually wouldn't mind if the enema started up labor for me...

There are threads on enemas on here and girls much more experienced than I  Wink but you would heat water, add a clove of garlic, process it through the blender, strain when cooled and add to the bag.  Just please, please, find out if it's safe during pregnancy before you do it!  You'll want to retain it for as long as is comfortable which might not be long with other 'things' vying for space down there!  Roll Eyes

I used to get sinus infections all the time, but the past few years I haven't been getting the usual kind, instead I get the pain and pressure, sometimes in my teeth, but usually right under the eyes, and forehead, back of the head.  But the most annoying thing is I always feel like I have something in my throat that needs to be coughed up.  Sometimes I can get stuff up, (yuk) Roll Eyes  but sometimes I can't.

Is this a sinus infection?  And what can I do to get rid of it once it gets this far?  I'm not blowing anything out of my nose, which is what it used to be.
Or could it be my allergies?

Here is a link to a segment of Dr.Schulze's Natural Healing Crusade.  He is just an amazing healer and has so much practical experience with actually helping people get well.  In this segment he discusses his herbal snuff formula, how to make it, experiences with it, and then you get to see the audience try the snuff.  The sections starts at about minute 37, but the entire series is well worth watching.

I'll throw this out there.  Not necessarily recommending it, but it did work!!!

A few days ago, I had stopped up nose, and I was sneezing all day long.  Now, I had recently done the Master Cleanse for ten days, so I was pretty cleaned out.  However, being very sleepy and not feeling all that great, I forgot this minor detail.  I was out of most of my remedies including garlic, so I used what I had which happened to be vitamin C and cayenne.

Old pro's are cringing now.  For those of you that are relatively new and don't know this, vitamin C will flush your system.  I have posted many, many times the benefits of doing a vitamin C flush.  You'd think I'd know better.  Apparantly not.  And I've also taken a good bit of cayanne before.  You'd think I'd know better.  Nope.  Both at the same time.

About 3 in the morning.  My buns were burnin'.  My hiney was hurtin'.

Cured the cold tho.

And just to let everyone know, this was before BJ's cure!!!

It really wasn't all that bad.  The burn only lasted a few minutes.  IMO....much better than a cold that lasted days!!!!
