  Baby teeth not falling out!
« on: May 09, 2007, 12:49:25 AM » by seeker
My 6 yr. old son has his 2 new front bottom teeth coming in, but he has not lost the 2 corresponding baby teeth yet!  The new teeth are just coming in behind the baby teeth. Shocked I got the following quote from another thread:

Our middle child has one cavity, but that is because he is getting ready to lose some more of his baby teeth.  A dentist once told me that the adult teeth coming up underneath produce a chemical to dissolve the roots of the baby teeth above, so they come out easily as the adult teeth progress upward.  As the chemical works, the baby teeth sometimes become "soft" all the way through, causing small cavities before they fall out.

I have read the same thing about the chemical dissolving the roots of the baby teeth. Does anyone know what chemical this is that our bodies produce? And would there be some reason that my son's body does not produce this chemical or enough of it? I have tried to do some research on this, but I'm not having much success.

My son did the same thing. He had 2 teeth right behind his 2 baby teeth. We called him 'shark tooth' He loved it! When he went to his regular dentist check up/ cleaning he pulled 4 baby teeth in front just to have room for the 2 behind. It looked pretty gross, having 4 teeth pulled at once, but he was young and it didn't bother him any. He has very straight teeth now.

Cute!  Cheesy

Did your dentist mention why your son's baby teeth didn't come out on their own? How old was he when the teeth were pulled? Thank you for sharing your experience.  Smiley

Okay, thanks. I'm hoping my son's teeth will go ahead and fall out, b/c he does NOT want to have them pulled. He's working on wiggling the baby teeth. I wonder if ds has some kind of deficiency that would keep his baby teeth from falling out - just thinking out loud.   Undecided

The ABC Herbal by Steven H. Horne recommends trace minerals for baby teeth that won't fall out.

Also recommended for trace mineral deficiencies during pregnancy (ie, morning sickness, low iron, prenatal and postnatal complications), structural or developmental problems, bedwetting, building immunity, healing injuries, hyperactivity and sleep disorders.  Basically, it can be helpful for any condition.

The Do-it-yourself Formula is 4 parts raspberry leaf, 2 parts oat straw, 2 part alfalfa, 1 part nettles, 1 part horsetail.

Or order Herbal Minerals II from  Limited Edition Herbs.

He used 1/2 tsp of Herbal Minerals once a day, and within 6 weeks his son lost 6 baby teeth and 4 adult teeth had descended.

Just a reminder:  Oral health is one indicator of general health.  If the teeth need trace minerals, so does the rest of the body.

I'm curious about the herbs for trace minerals, at the risk of slightly hijacking the thread  Embarrassed one of my questions doesn't pertain directly I thought Nettles were not so good until late pregnancy to bring on labor???  Ok my second question pertains Cheesy was this a tea or did they just take the herbs in capsules as a supplement?

Thanks!

I have seen nettles recommended for pregnancy in all stages, I believe.  It is a great source of minerals, usually with dandelion, raspberry, yellow dock, etc.  I have not read that it brings on labor.

The herbs were used to make a simmered glycerite (tincture).  You would have to use much more to get the same results with tea or capsules since the extraction has not been done as with a tincture.

Good news! My son lost one of his 2 baby teeth that were still hanging on despite his 2 new teeth growing in behind them. His other one is pretty loose, but it may be a while. The only things we did were to give him some calcium supplements and have him wiggle his tooth.

My daughter recently had the same problem.  Her bottom two adult teeth came in before the baby ones even thought about coming out.  We just had her wiggle them all the time until they came out.  It took a week or two of always reminding her to keep at them, and then no problems.  So far.

Only 2 of my baby teeth fell out.  The rest were pulled 2-4 at a time.  They all had roots 3/4" long that never dissolved.  I've saved them.  My permanent teeth came in behind the baby ones and the dentist was floored that it happened EVERY time.  I have SUPER healthy teeth with roots that are insanely long and hard.

Must have been all of that super breast milk my mom fed me, or the yoghurt.  I was also born without tonsils.  Not sure if that's connected...  Grin

When they x-rayed my oldest daughter's mouth they saw that she did not have a permanent molar under one of her baby teeth.  The dentist told us that the baby tooth would just stay put and shouldn't cause any problems.

I found Herbal Minerals II online...what size should I purchase?  Does it taste bad?  Do you mix it with juice or take it straight?

I have a 10  year old daughter who has one lost one tooth on her own, 6 have been pulled by an oral surgeon.  I'm willing to try anything to keep her out of the surgeon's chair!

Thainks in advance,

If your daughter has other "developmental or structural problems" then you might want to get the larger size.  Also, since she is a preteen, it might be advisable  to get the larger size since she is about to go through all the tremendous changes that accompany puberty.  (It certainly will help with bone health, and the next ten years will determine her maximum bone density.  The same formulation is recommended for women needing help balancing hormones - something many young teen girls are also in need of these days.)

The Herbal Minerals II should be a glycerite, so the taste will be sweet and "herby", but not objectionable.  It would be fine to put it in juice or water, though.  It is actually more of a food than a supplement according to Horne.

You could make the same tincture at home, but it probably wouldn't be as potent, so a higher dose would be needed.

My dd had the same issues at 12. I also read what Horne said
in the ABC herbal and was prepared to purchase the liquid minerals he
suggests. But then I realized the Mama's RR Brew tea had many of
the same ingredients . I thought that I'd try it first because I had
it on hand. I made the tea, had her drink a lg cup a day, and within
3 weeks we were wiggling teeth out left and right.

My sister had her adult teeth (molars) all the way in, but they were under the baby tooth! The baby tooth fit like a glove over the adult tooth. The dentist had to pull 4 molars (is that all you lose of molars? I don't remember). The first time he was really shocked, because he pulled the tooth, and there was the adult tooth, all the way in! The other 3 he was ready for by the time he pulled them.

On a lighter note, my father-in-law has teethed along with all 3 of my children. He has had 3 sets of teeth, and in a few spots, 4! He once had a surgery to get out the 3rd set, but he said never again. Now, he has them pull the adult tooth and lets the next one grow in. He says he feels for teh boys as they are teething, that it is no fun. Cheesy For the record, he also has extra linings on his eyes. Maybe he was suppossed to be a twin? Tongue

Oooh, I'm so glad I found this thread!  Our 11 dd has a problem with stubborn baby teeth, too.  But she HATES to wiggle them and is always afraid to go for a dental cleaning for fear that they'll tell her they want to pull them.  One of our last dentists tried to bully her into having it done, calling her a baby.  My heart broke for her that day!  We have a different dentist now close-by who doesn't mind leaving them, but now that I know that it might be mineral deficiency, I'll definitely try this route!

Thanks so much!
Blessings,

I think that if a dentist calls a child a name (or any adult for that matter) you definately need to find a good dentist...good for you that you did! How cruel. I think that having your teeth fall out naturally is an exciting thing fro children and that the teeth should only be pulled if there is a risk of cavities to the adult teeth (in the case of my sister (see above) there was bits of food going in between the baby tooth and adult tooth).

Also, the other night I had this AWFUL dream, and part of it was about my 8yods having teeth not wanting to fall out....I think now that it came from this thread! Maybe I should post this on the "you know you are a well teller when...." thread.  Roll Eyes

I had two baby teeth still at the age of 14.  The reason was that my canine teeth (the sharp long ones)  were impacted above my two front teeth.  The orthodontist said that the reason the baby teeth did not fall out was because of the lack of pressure on the roots because the adult teeth were not in the right place.  He never mentioned mineral deficiency.  I had oral surgery to remove the baby teeth and expose the adults and attach braces to bring them down into place.  No fun.  My sister's x-rays were identical.  Same thing.

Anyway, is it possible that the only reason the baby teeth don't fall out is because the adult teeth aren't in the right place to offer pressure to the roots of the baby teeth?

Be careful about forcing them out. I have a brother who still has about 4 of his and exrays revealed that there were NO adult teeth following them. If he would have forced them to come out, he would have awful gaps in his teeth. My mom has one that never came out and she also did not have the replacement and still has the baby tooth.
