  Fibromyalgia: Causes & Cures
« on: April 03, 2006, 08:53:56 PM » by homeschooltheheart
Just recently my mom was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.  Her doctor went with the usual mainstream treatment of medication and therapy for this illness.  Within two weeks of taking the medication, she became completely jaundiced.  We found out later that the medication she had been taking was now attacking her liver.  My question is this...

She is now medication free, but is back in pain from the Fibromyalgia.  Is there anyone who maybe has had experience with this and knows of an herbal remedy or help.  Any information is sincerely appreciated.

This site has a ton of info on fibromyalgia prevention and cures. Some of it can be a little hokey (the spiritual stuff) but the actual medical/cleanse information has been tried and proven. Follow all the blue links to read the various articles on each step back to good health. I've done most of the cleanses, and they work for most illnesses, because toxins are the source of most illnesses.
If your mom is strong enough, changing her diet and beginning with the various cleanses would be my recommendation.

The only knowledge I have of Fibromyalgia is from watching my Mom experience it for several years.  After suffering for several years with progressively worse symptoms she started taking some health supplements recommended to her from GNC.  They helped, but she still struggled with low grade fevers, and painful joints etc.  After a year or so of those supplements she started taking Reliv.  THAT made an amazing difference!  In just the few months she was taking it before her wreck it had totally removed her fevers and other symptoms.  Combined with regular exercises she went from needing to rest half way up the steps to the playroom to being full of energy and being able to work in the yard and her massive gardens again!  Smiley

I think the key is getting nutrients to the body in such a way that they body can actually absorb them and use them to heal the problems from within.  Reliv did this very efficiently for my Mom.

Thanks so much for the help!  My mom has very poor eating habits.  I didn't know it, because I lived so far away from her.  Since Katrina, we are now living within 5 miles of each other and I am astounded at her poor nutrition.  She eats out literally everyday.

I have managed to get her to take SuperMom.  I'm hoping this helps somewhat.  I can't see her attempting any flushes/fasts right now. I'm trying to work on those myself.  Huh I think she might be able to try Reliv as long as it isn't a prescription medication.  Is it something that is herbal or over the counter?

Thanks again.  My mom is only 58.  I hate seeing her moving as if she is 98.

Having had CFIDS, a related illness with the same cause, I have done much research on this subject. CFIDS and fibro are caused by a malfunctioning hypothalamus gland. The gland is overwhelmed by stress, infections, poor self-care, poor nutrition (the list could be long and varied). The key to recovery is to reduce stress on the hypothalamus so this organ can recover. Read Chronic Fatigue Unmasked for more info.

Usually, a chronic intestinal dysbiosis is involved. Often Candida.

I am curious, because I have heard alot of preachers and such scorn at the idea. Like it is just another name for not dealing with your problems correctly.

I have had some symptoms of it, but I am not sure what to think. The last two weeks I have been sort of blah and no energy and bored. Then I yesterday I felt tired and foggy. So I drank a cup of coffee and that helped some.

Today I woke up feeling no energy, tired, blah, and achey in my shoulder blades and I can "pop"my hip bones. I can usually do that, but the pain is extending into my neck and arm.

I had my husband rub my back as hard as he could, and I still feel pain. I also am dealing with a yeast infection. I hardly used to get those. I had my first one about two years ago, now I have had about four of them since.

I also feel achy in my arms in neck if it gets cold outside, and we had a change of weather. It isn't pain that that is horrible and I can't fuction at all. But it hurts to do normal things, and I can't concentrate.

The pain almost feels like carpal tunnle syndrom but it starts in my neck and goes all the way down through my shoulder and arm. Any Ideas?

Sounds like your traps.  The largest muscle in the back connects to your neck, spine and shoulder in a large triangle.  When this muscle gets pinched from stress or an accident, such as whiplash, the muscle tightens and pinches nerves in this area.  I'm speaking from experience when I tell you that the pain can be several states of numbness, tingling, and aching all the way from the neck, down the spine and arm and into the hands and fingers.

If you can get a chiropractic adjustment from a chiropractor or a D.O., this may relieve some of the stress as the muscle may have pulled your spine out of alignment.  To loosen the muscle, exercises to stretch and relax this muscle help tremendously.

Since you're having hip pain as well, it's possible your spine may be out of alignment in multiple places and a chiro or a D.O. can surely help you in this area as well.

An unaligned spine can cause fatigue and fogginess as well due to the stress you're putting on the body from overcompensating for an uneven body (walking, sitting, and standing), but it's possible you may have other problems contributing to this as well.

Personally, if it were me, I'd head to the chiro or D.O., get a good adjustment from neck to lower back and then do the exercises in the following link.

Whiplash, Neck & Shoulder Pain

If your fogginess and fatigue do not improve with this therapy then I would look for further contributors like candida overgrowth.  Just my

I agree with HB about your neck & back being out. You said that your fighting yeast. Another possibility that could be causing it or contributing along with your neck & back being out is yeast or fungus in your body or mold exposure. I have had all the symptoms your describing (except popping my hip joints) & more that turned out to be from yeast & fungus in my body & mold exposure. Also, you have posted before that you have problems with depression. Depression, fatigue, confusion, brain fog, etc are all VERY common symptoms of yeast & fungus. Mercy just went through health problems caused by storm damage & mold growth in her house & has 2 threads about it. I give a lot of my background info about what I went through on the threads as well, esp on the 1st one. Here's the threads:

Upper Back Pain in the Morning

Ankle Pain and Swelling: I need help

It could be nothing more than your neck & back is out & you need to see a chiropractor but I just wanted to bring this up in case it is contributing. HTH Blessings ~herbalmom

Dear MommyChurch,
I just wanted to let you know that fibromyalgia is a very real problem, but I'm not sure if that's what's wrong with you.  I ended up going to a rhumatologist (SP) for a diagnosis for my fibromyalgia.  I hope that's not what you have, but there's always a possibility you have that, AND other issues.  One thing that needs to be checked is the tender points (there's 18 of them).  It does seem, however, that brain fog and candida goes along with fibromyalgia in many cases, along with many other problems/symptoms.  If you can go to a good naturopathic doc, maybe you can get a diagnosis from her/him w/o having to go to a rhumatologist.  The best thing I have found for my fibro pain is a Nature's Sunshine product "Fibralgia".  I received relief from that within 2-3 days!
It contains malic acid and magnesium.  Those are both very important minerals for the muscles.  But just remember, you're NOT CRAZY!!!  I've had lots of people (including family members) who made me feel like I was just being lazy when I wouldn't be able to do a whole lot of housework, etc., before my diagnosis.  But anyway, let us all know when you find out what's going on.  I pray you're able to find out soon...I know from experience it's very hard to have to wait when you're in PAIN!
Fondly, Jett Leann
P.S.  A WONDERFUL resource book is "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by James Balch.  This has a great section on Fibromyalgia.

I was just rereading my earlier post I realize that it sounds like I don't think Fibromyalgia is real. I didn't mean it that way. I was never "officially" diagnosed but while I was researching trying to find out what was wrong with me Fibromyalgia & chronic fatigue is what all my symptoms kept leading me back to as I did have all the symptoms including the tender points.

I know in my case what made the difference was moving from a place that was mold contaminated (which we discovered as we were moving out) & finding the TV show Know the Cause (which I found about a month after moving) which introduced me to Doug Kaufmann's work & books. His info was a major "light bulb" moment & put all the pieces into place & led me to treat for fungus. I'm much better than I used to be but if I get exposed to mold I will be stiff, my joints ache, muscle pain, the tender points flair up, etc & the quickest, best relief comes from antifungals, not pain killers. I still have bad days but I'm doing MUCH better than I used to. I haven't been as aggressive on the antifungal treatment as I could be but with everything my mom is going through I realize that I need to get serious & aggressive before I end up with even more serious problems.

Everyone is unique & what causes my health problems may not be what is causing yours. Don't forget, your pain could be nothing more than your neck & back are out & you need to see a chiropractor. I just wanted to bring it up because at my worst I could barely get up to go to the bathroom, let alone anything else & my cause turned out to be something that is not commonly recognized. Hey Herbalmom, I wanted to mention that our ND has Daddy use "Nutribiotics GSE" (grapefruit seed extract) internally for the mold/fungus in his lungs.  He also recommends  breathing Nature's Sunshine grapefruit oil.  (Just straight out of the bottle.)  You may already be familiar with these products, but just in case, thought I'd mention them.

Thanks. I do use GSE & ANY citrus oil has D'limonine (sp?) which is a POTENT antifungal.

I'm curious, since your dad has fungus in his lungs & you have Fibromyalgia is it possible that you both were exposed to mold in the same place? If so antifungal treatment may help you immensely. Mold you breath in CAN colonize in the body. It then puts out mycotoxins (fungal toxins) which can cause pain, damage nerves, & more symptoms than you can imagine. You really should check out Know the Cause & Doug Kaufmann's books. His web site is:

Hey Herbalmom...Again, thanks for being so helpful!  I actually grew up on a dairy farm, so yes, absolutely, we were both exposed to the mold through the hay and cattle feed, etc.   We realize that's Daddy's big problem, but had never thought about that for me...hmmmm...very interesting!  A lot of my customers talk about Doug Kaufman.  I'll have to try & get his book.   Jett Leann

I was wondering if ya'll had any "miracle" treatments for FM. I was diagnosed with it in April of 2004, and have been taking a slew of vitamins and herbal supplements I have listed them at the bottom. They help manage the pain, but I still get flare ups and have a lot if trouble sleeping... which leaves me tired all day. I have two boy's under the age of 4 so, it can really be hard for me. Thanks and God bless, Jessi

Malic acid w/ mag.
spirulina
magneese
acidopholis
GABA
acetyl-l-caritine
CFS drops
vitamin C
a multi vitamin
L-pheniaiamine
IB profren
sodium niproxeum
all of these cost me about $100 a month!
I no longer eat red meat of any kind, beef, deer, I can't even have soup made with beef stock.

I have found something that REALLY helps ME alot with my CFS and Fibro.  It's not a miracle cure by any means, but while you're on it, life is pretty good.  It's called TAUROX and I get it from Allergy Research group.  I get the liquid, but it also comes in pellets, but they are not nearly as effective for me.  This little bottle allows for more energy, less pain, and clears the brain fog, plus numerous other improvements.  Since you have more energy to function, you actually SLEEP and dream! (I didn't dream for 5 yrs prior to starting this.) My doctor says it's an immune modulator.  I have had MUCH success with this---but it only lasts while you take it.  About a week after stopping(I ran out) all your symptoms slowly creep back.  But I told my husband I'll stay on it forever because I can actually have a life while on it.  Before, I had a hard time even going to church or ball games(really everything).  I am speaking only as a fellow sufferer--this one really is worth the effort and money.  If you decide to try it, I also should mention, the bottle says 12 drops a day in the AM, but I have found doubling that really gave me the boost.  P.S. I take the supplements you mentioned and some others, but this one is the kicker.

I get mine through my doctor's account directly from Allergy Research group and it cost's me $23.00 a bottle.  I looked it up on line by just typing taurox and several sites came up and the cheapest I could find was $27.00 through Advantage  Nutrition.  The bottle size is 13.5ml.  It's pretty costly, but for me it's been worth it.  I did have to play with the dose and little, but your friend might do well on less. I have had fibro for over 20 years and just returned home on July 1 after an 8 week stay at the Fibromyalgia Relief Center in South Lake Tahoe, CA.   When I came home, I was 90% better than when I got there on April 28.  That includes body aches, allergies, IBS, and so many other symptoms we deal with.

If you would like to check things out, you can go to www.stopfibro.com   .  If you register, you can read a lot of information and see the testimonials of over 50 people.  You can even order a book the doc has written and show it to someone you trust.  Hundreds have gone to the clinic since it started and only a very small percentage of people have gone back home without seeing major differences.  The doc doesn't like people to go home until they are at least 90% better, but some need to leave sooner because of financial reasons.  The normal stay is 8-10 weeks, but some have had to stay longer because their sympathetic nerve system took longer to calm down.  That was the case with Cynthia.  You can view what she has to say at the website.  I believe mine is now there as well....look for Meg.

This is not a free clinic, but from research I had done before, the cost is much less than many others I found that had people come for much shorter periods of time.  Being away from your family isn't easy, and the recovery time after going home is 6 months of restricted activities while your body heals...but I can tell you that it was well worth it for me and for the people who were there while I was there.

God bless you and give you wisdom as you look at the site.  The doc will call you himself at some point should you decide you would like to find out even more than on the website...and his staff is very helpful.  At least two of them, as well as the doc, has experienced fibro and found healing.

I appreciate it too. Smiley  I wish I lived in CA!  It sounds so right.  I did the test and did have some changes. Mostly my vision blurred and it did something to the muscles in my legs.  But unless there are other clinics closer to home, it won't be happening for me.  I could never leave my family for that amount of time.( I Know, Roll Eyes, it's kinda like I've "checked-out" most days anyway, but at least I'm here.)  I had a DR refer me to the MAYO clinic, but my husband didn't want me to go then b/c of the time away. Go figure!  I do thank you for the info, gives me something to gnaw on.

I put this link on the autism thread but the info on this site could really benefit someone with fibromyalgia.  I am not endorsing the spiritual beliefs of the site, however.
Donna Gate's Body Ecology website is also very informative. Try this link first....

Thanks for answering, I have been wondering about it.

Sounds like an allergy. I notice that dairy is doing the same to me although for the moment I can put up with it. The pain does seem to be getting worse though & I have other issues with dairy as well. I know that I need to bite the bullet & give up dairy entirely but I haven't done it yet. I get intense craving for dairy which isn't an excuse but it does make it hard. *sigh* Being allergic addictive is such a struggle.

If you are allergic to beef, being allergic to dairy also is a real possibility. Just thought I would mention it. Blessings ~herbalmom

I have actually spoke to a lot of people with autoimmune disorders, and most of them can't eat "red" meat either. I was told that it had to do with the "blood iron". I don't know how true that is, but...
It is really hard to go out to eat and see every one else enjoying a steak or even a double cheeseburger... oh what I'd do for a Mac Donald's double cheese burger!!! But I guess thats just one more reason to look forward to heaven!
I have no problem with dairy - thankfully! I have given up so much, I don't know what I'd eat if I had to give that up. Can you imagine... no beef, sugar, dairy... It wouldn't be very fun!

I'm trying to figure out what I might have.  Are the symptoms for this aching all over?  I've suffered from legs aching since I was a kid, and now since I'm older my lower back and hips.  Now it's all over, spine, arms, neck.  It's not really the joints though, I thought maybe arthritis, but I can bend and type, without pain.  It's just this awlful achiness.  And, could it be related to monthly cycles?  It seems to be worse when i'm ovulating, or around that time.  But, sometimes its ok.

I first posted in the arthritis section, but now I'm wondering abot this.  I'm sooo tired all the time.  I have MVP too..

Just wondering what I can do to help myself with this pain,
wendy
