Caring for Skin After Mole Removal
« on: May 22, 2007, 02:29:09 PM » by ShabbyChic
Well I went to see the dermatologist yesterday for 2 moles on my shoulder that were bugging me.  He said they are fine but did remove 2 suspicious ones on my back and leg.  The scrape is pretty deep.

When I took the band aid off of my leg last night I also got some of the scab and it began to bleed a lot.  He only said, "Keep it clean."  So does anyone have any advice?  I know neosporin says not to use it on puncture wounds (and this is pretty deep), but can I use my miracle skin salve?

I am keeping them covered with band aids, mostly because they're in such irritating places that they'd get rubbed all day long.  Is it safe to shower without the band aids?

I had some moles removed a couple months ago, too, and boy was I sore the next day! I guess I can't say I know, though, about the salve, I just kept mine clean and bandaged till it was healed enough to be comfortable without a bandage. I didn't have a good salve at the time, though, but if I did have a good one like miracle salve, I think I would have cleaned it well with peroxide, then added the salve, then a bandage, to speed up healing, and watch for any sign of infection. I also read you could put vitamin E oil on it to reduce scarring. Of course you can do a comfrey poultice to speed up healing also.

I don't have vitamin E oil, but I have Omega 3.6.9 and Neem oil.  Could I use those?  I did peroxide and neosporin and a band aid last night.  I am SO sore today.  I think the worst part is where they injected the lidocaine into the muscle.  My muscles are really sore.

How long did it take yours to heal?  Did it scar?

I think it took the worst one close to two weeks before it was healed enough to take the band-aid off (it would still bleed some or ooze, sorry about the graphic language). Maybe a little less. Yours may be worse because I don't think they injected anything into my muscle. And yes, there is an ugly red scar that the dr. said would probably be still healing for a year! So I made some salve that I've been putting on it to see if I can get it to go away faster.

If you have miracle salve I wouldn't worry about the Vitamin E. I just have some vitamin E capsules that I broke open. But, I'm hoping someone else will chime in here because I'm not sure how it will be to put miracle salve on an open wound. I don't think it will hurt but a poultice or just not putting anything on it might work better until some of the skin heals.

Have you read Comfort for the Burned and Wounded? It was written by an Amish man who put leaves over bad burns and wounds and they stopped hurting, healed quickly, and didn't scar badly. Maybe if you're up for some experimentation you could put a plantain leaf over it and bandage over that! I'm feeling like a weirdo here...

Aloe vera is supposed to regenerate skin and be antibacterial...

Wow.  Flesh colored scars are cool, but red ones are kind of yucky.  Maybe it'll fade over time.  I'll try the skin salve.  Thanks so much, Julia.  I didn't realize it'd take so long.  A year!!  Wow.  I think that taking vitamin E and fish oil will help with new cell generation and it'll heal faster.  Maybe only 9 months.  Cheesy

I've had many moles removed and in various ways - a few that had to be cut out deep and stitched up, a few that were just scraped and cauterized.  They gave me benzocaine (like prescription neosporin) to put on it and I just kept it clean and covered up until it healed well.  I have scars from all of them, but they are hardly noticable - especially the scraped ones.  They are flesh colored and about the size and shape that the mole was only there is a bit of an indentation.  The ones where I had stitches are much more obvious.  I'm sure you will heal up nicely!

I just had two moles removed from my face, just to the side of my chin.  They were just scraped off, although one went a little deeper than the other.  The nurse said to put vaseline on them to prevent scabbing so that they don't scar as badly.  I don't have any and don't really like the idea of putting vaseline in an open wound.  I do have homemade salve made with olive oil, coconut oil, plantain, comfrey, yarrow and echinacea, GSE and vitamin E oil.  Do ya'll think that would work?  If anyone could share their experiences I would so appreciate it! Thanks!  Smiley

Please don't use vaseline.  I have skin cancer and each time I have spots removed I keep my spot covered in Miracle Skin Salve from Beeyoutiful.com.  I keep it good and thick and cover it with 2 band aids that criss-cross like an "x."

My scars are almost un-noticable in color and texture.  They are big, about the size of nickels.  But they are flat and the same color as my skin.  I will say, it took over a year for them to look like normal.  They were red like a raspberry and raised for over a year.

Hope that helps.

I would use the salve you have. Great combo of ingreds & MUCH better than vaseline. Just follow Shabby's instructions using the salve you have & it will do well IMO.

Well my scars were raspberry colored and raised up for many months.  I kept salve and a band aid on it until it looked flat.  Even then it was still raspberry colored and took a while to become the color of me.   Grin

But as long as it was raised up I kept salve on it.  And the band aid was to keep the oil from staining my clothes, and it also kept my clothes from rubbing it.  I had one on my thigh and one on my back, and they were both irritated/sore when things brushed them-- especially jeans.

Shabby,

Did you have pain with your incisions?  My dad just had skin cancer surgery about 6 months ago and he has had pain with it ever since.  He and my mom are coming for a visit and I wanted to try Miracle Salve on the incision site to see if that would help.  They aren't very interested in doing things naturally, but I thought if the salve worked, that might change their minds.

I have had to have several spots removed too.  My dermatologist told me that it really doesn't matter what you use on your scars, it is the massaging action that helps them heal and return to normal.  He recommended massaging the site for a minute or two every day while taking a shower.  Of course, this is after the original wound heals.

If you would rather do it during the day, you may want to use olive oil or coconut oil as a lubricant.

It really does work.  My scars have faded significantly since trying this.
