I just wanted to add to this thread that I just got over a Bartholin abscess. It hurt so bad and Mishy helped so much. My natural path Dr. put me on so many herbs for my immune system ( I think immune booster would work), and many lymph symptom formulas. One was Fig tree in a liquid form. It is specific lymphatic for the reproductive system. I took warm baths and that comforted me, but did not help. The bump went on for 4 days. Someone suggested HOT rags on the gland. It immediately started shrinking and getting mushy. It broke and drained the next day. It was 5 long days. One can do almost nothing with this abscess. I could not sit in front of the computer more that 1-2 mins. max.

So if anyone else has one, it can drain on its own, but some take a long time and are very stubborn. If you have to go to the doctor it will be okay.

I posted this reply in another link a while back and I just saw this topic today... clearly I didn't know how to spell Bartholin (or even the proper name for it).  Just wanted to add it to the right category.

I am not sure but it sounds somewhat like a cyst.  I have had a few little ones in the area that have come and gone on their own.  They are basically like a little pimple in your glands.  Tons of glands in our "area".  Also, my best friend had a Barthland cyst (Huh spelling) and it was there for years.  Sometimes it was bigger and when it was it sometimes would be painful.  Her doctor said it wasn't a problem - other than cosmetic - and after several years she had it drained because it grew to about the size of a golfball.  That was a very painful process and she had a "straw" draining it for several days after.  Then it came back again.  She finally decided to have the gland removed surgically and then she ended up with an almost fatal infection and spent a week in the hospital.  It ended up being a very dramatic event with wound specialists photographing her area daily and she has some cosmetic deformity there now.  She can laugh about it now and is thankful she is done with it all.  So, just a thought.  Though I am sure your situation is much less dramatic this is just one woman's story.  If it comes back again, it could be a cyst.  Which is just an annoyance more than anything, most likely.

Unfortunately, I think I will have to bring this post back to life again --  Cry  I think I have one of these!  Wow, it popped up quickly.  I know it wasn't there on Saturday, and Sunday we were driving home from a trip - 7 hours in the car two days in a row, and I kind of turned in the seat, just getting comfortable and I noticed something hurt "down there" a cerain way I would turn.  When I got home and went to the bathroom, I found a small, but painful knot.  As I am researching this site, the spot is exactly where you ladies are describing the Bartholin Abscess.  It is not huge or extremely painful - yet.  I started immediately putting GOOT on it and some tea tree oil directly on.  It hasn't come to a head.  I have some clay from bulk herb store, so my question is, how to I use that?  I haven't used it yet for anything.  Do I make it into a paste and try to keep it on the spot?  That is the difficult part.  I don't feel like anything stays on the right spot very long.  Thanks for your help.   I think I will start taking garlic as well, maybe to help prevent infection?  Should I do that?

Aw!  so sorry you have one.
Sounds like you are doing the right things though!  Yes, make the clay into a paste and put it on.
I didn't have the clay (got it now though!) when I had mine, but I would take daily HOT sitzt baths with lots of epsom salts.
I hope it comes to a head quickly for you!!

Also be sure to put hot moist washcloths on it. It must soften to burst. It hurts so much. I'll pray for you.

Ditto on hot sitz baths!

I have had these the first couple times I was pregnant. Excess pressure down there = poor drainage.

Keep an eye on your symptoms. Do what you can to keep your immunity level up. These can be very deep seated and far more extensive than people realize.

Also don't squeeze them unless you are sure that you have an opening that will exit the body. You do not want to drive the infection further up your lymphatic system.

I eventually had one removed surgically.

Thanks for prayers.  I just wanted to say that I think what helped the most of everything was Bentonite Clay.  I had some I had never used, and I made a paste and applied it twice, once in the afternoon and once that night before bed.  It formed a head by the next morning.  It didn't really "burst" like I expected it to do.  A little infection came out, but mostly I think the clay just drew it out slowly, so it just visably shrunk to almost gone overnight.  I also took raw garlic for a couple of days internally just to fight infection and really made sure I took my immune boosting supplements and drank cinnaman tea.  I really had a pretty easy time of it, comparing my experience to the other posts.  It did hurt though, but it really never got too large.  I can't imagine one the size of a golf ball - bless your heart!!  Shocked  It is so great to have this site.  I had no idea what it was and I would have ended up having to go to the doctor if it had kept getting larger.
